Mah±janopi ta½khaºaññeva satth±ra½ olokento n±ddasa, candassa atthaªgamitak±lo viya s³riyassa ca atthaªgamitak±lo viya ahosi. Mah±jano–

“Pavivekarato dh²ro, nima½ loka½ punehiti;
na no dakkhemu sambuddha½, lokajeµµha½ nar±sabhan”ti.
Te mah±moggall±na½ pucchi½su– “kaha½, bhante, satth±”ti? So saya½ j±nantopi “paresampi guº± p±kaµ± hont³”ti ajjh±sayena “anuruddha½ pucchath±”ti ±ha. Te thera½ tath± pucchi½su– “kaha½, bhante, satth±”ti? T±vati½sabhavane paº¹ukambalasil±ya½ vassa½ upagantv± m±tu abhidhammapiµaka½ desetu½ gatoti. “Kad± ±gamissati, bhante”ti? “Tayo m±se abhidhammapiµaka½ desetv± mah±pav±raºadivase”ti. Te “satth±ra½ adisv± na gamiss±m±”ti tattheva khandh±v±ra½ bandhi½su. ¾k±sameva kira nesa½ chadana½ ahosi. T±ya ca mahatiy± paris±ya sar²ranigha½so n±ma na paññ±yi, pathav² vivara½ ad±si, sabbattha parisuddhameva bh³mitala½ ahosi.
Satth± paµhamameva moggall±natthera½ avoca– “moggall±na, tva½ etiss±ya paris±ya dhamma½ deseyy±si, c³¼a-an±thapiº¹iko ±h±ra½ dassat²”ti. Tasm± ta½ tem±sa½ c³¼a-an±thapiº¹ikova tass± paris±ya y±pana½ y±gubhatta½ kh±dan²ya½ tambulatelagandham±l±pilandhan±ni ca ad±si. Mah±moggall±no dhamma½ desesi, p±µih±riyadassanattha½ ±gat±gatehi puµµhapañhe ca vissajjesi. Satth±rampi m±tu abhidhammadesanattha½ paº¹ukambalasil±ya½ vassa½ upagata½ dasasahassacakkav±¼adevat± pariv±rayi½su. Tena vutta½–
“T±vati½se yad± buddho, sil±ya½ paº¹ukambale;
p±ricchattakam³lamhi, vih±si purisuttamo.
“Dasasu lokadh±t³su, sannipatitv±na devat±;
payirup±santi sambuddha½, vasanta½ n±gamuddhani.
“Na koci devo vaººena, sambuddhassa virocati;
sabbe deve atikkamma, sambuddhova virocat²”ti. (Pe va. 317-319).
Eva½ sabb± devat± attano sar²rappabh±ya abhibhavitv± nisinnassa panassa m±t± tusitavim±nato ±gantv± dakkhiºapasse nis²di. Indakopi devaputto ±gantv± dakkhiºapasseyeva nis²di, aªkuro v±mapasse nis²di. So mahesakkh±su devat±su sannipatant²su apagantv± dv±dasayojanike µh±ne ok±sa½ labhi, indako tattheva nis²di. Satth± te ubhopi oloketv± attano s±sane dakkhiºeyyapuggal±na½ dinnad±nassa mahapphalabh±va½ ñ±petuk±mo evam±ha– “aªkura, tay± d²ghamantare dasavassasahassaparim±ºak±le dv±dasayojanika½ uddhanapanti½ katv± mah±d±na½ dinna½, id±ni mama sam±gama½ ±gantv± dv±dasayojanike µh±ne ok±sa½ labhi, ki½ nu kho ettha k±raºan”ti? Vuttampi ceta½–
“Oloketv±na sambuddho, aªkurañc±pi indaka½;
dakkhiºeyya½ sambh±vento, ida½ vacanamabravi.
“Mah±d±na½ tay± dinna½, aªkura d²ghamantare;
atid³re nisinnosi, ±gaccha mama santike”ti. (Pe va. 321-322).
So saddho pathav²tala½ p±puºi. Sabb±pi na½ s± paris± assosi. Eva½ vutte–
“Codito bh±vitattena, aªkuro etamabravi;
ki½ mayha½ tena d±nena, dakkhiºeyyena suññata½.
“Aya½ so indako yakkho, dajj± d±na½ parittaka½;

Tattha dajj±ti datv±. Eva½ vutte satth± indaka½ ±ha– “indaka, tva½ mama dakkhiºapasse nisinno, kasm± anapagantv±va nis²das²”ti? So “aha½, bhante, sukhette appakab²ja½ vapanakassako viya dakkhiºeyyasampada½ alatthan”ti dakkhiºeyya½ pabh±vento ±ha–
“Ujjaªgale yath± khette, b²ja½ bahumpi ropita½;
na phala½ vipula½ hoti, napi toseti kassaka½.
“Tatheva d±na½ bahuka½, duss²lesu patiµµhita½;
na phala½ vipula½ hoti, napi toseti d±yaka½.
“Yath±pi bhaddake khette, b²ja½ appampi ropita½;
samm± dh±ra½ pavecchante, phala½ toseti kassaka½.
“Tatheva s²lavantesu, guºavantesu t±disu;
appakampi kata½ k±ra½, puñña½ hoti mahapphalan”ti. (Pe va. 325-328).
Ki½ panetassa pubbakammanti? So kira anuruddhattherassa antog±ma½ piº¹±ya paviµµhassa attano ±bhata½ kaµacchubhikkha½ d±pesi. Tad± tassa puñña½ aªkurena dasavassasahass±ni dv±dasayojanika½ uddhanapanti½ katv± dinnad±nato mahapphalatara½ j±ta½. Tasm± evam±ha.
Eva½ vutte satth±, “aªkura, d±na½ n±ma viceyya d±tu½ vaµµati, eva½ ta½ sukhettesu vuttab²ja½ viya mahapphala½ hoti. Tva½ pana na tath± ak±si, tena te d±na½ mahapphala½ na j±tan”ti imamattha½ vibh±vento–
“Viceyya d±na½ d±tabba½, yattha dinna½ mahapphala½…pe….
“Viceyya d±na½ sugatappasattha½,
ye dakkhiºeyy± idha j²valoke;
etesu dinn±ni mahapphal±ni,

Kathento pana bhikkh±c±ravel±ya “y±va mam±gaman± ettaka½ n±ma dhamma½ deset³”ti nimmitabuddha½ m±petv± himavanta½ gantv± n±galat±dantakaµµha½ kh±ditv± anotattadahe mukha½ dhovitv± uttarakuruto piº¹ap±ta½ ±haritv± mah±s±lam±¼ake nisinno bhattakicca½ ak±si. S±riputtatthero tattha gantv± satthu vatta½ karoti. Satth± bhattakiccapariyos±ne, “s±riputta ajja may± ettako n±ma dhammo bh±sito, tva½ attano antev±sik±na½ bhikkh³na½ v±ceh²”ti therassa kathesi. Te “ime khandh± n±ma, im± dh±tuyo n±m±”ti aj±nitv± sare nimittagahaºamatteneva tato cut± devaloke nibbatt±, eka½ buddhantara½ dibbasampatti½ anubhavitv± tato cavitv± s±vatthiya½ kulagharesu nibbatt±. Yamakap±µih²re uppannapas±d± therassa santike pabbajitv± sabbapaµhama½ sattapakaraºik± ahesu½. Satth±pi teneva n²h±rena ta½ tem±sa½ abhidhamma½ desesi. Desan±vas±ne as²tikoµisahass±na½ devat±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi, mah±m±y±pi sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi.
S±pi kho chatti½sayojanaparimaº¹al± paris± “id±ni sattame divase mah±pav±raº± bhavissat²”ti mah±moggall±natthera½ upasaªkamitv± ±ha– “bhante satthu, orohaºadivasa½ saññ±tu½ vaµµati, na hi maya½ satth±ra½ adisv± gamiss±m±”ti. ¾yasm± mah±moggall±no ta½ katha½ sutv± “s±dh±vuso”ti vatv± tattheva pathaviya½ nimuggo sinerup±da½ gantv± “ma½ abhiruhanta½ paris± passat³”ti adhiµµh±ya maºiratanena ±vuta½ paº¹ukambalasutta½ viya paññ±yam±nar³pova sinerumajjhena abhiruhi. Manuss±pi na½ “ekayojana½ abhiru¼ho, dviyojana½ abhiru¼ho”ti olokayi½su. Theropi satthu p±de s²sena ukkhipanto viya abhiruhitv± vanditv± evam±ha– “bhante, paris± tumhe disv±va gantuk±m±, kad± orohissath±”ti. “Kaha½ pana te, moggall±na, jeµµhabh±tiko s±riputto”ti. “Bhante, saªkassanagare vassa½ upagato”ti. Moggall±na, aha½ ito sattame divase mah±pav±raº±ya saªkassanagaradv±re otariss±mi, ma½ daµµhuk±m± tattha ±gacchantu, s±vatthito saªkassanagaradv±ra½ ti½sayojan±ni, ettake magge kassaci p±theyyakicca½ natthi, uposathik± hutv± dhuravih±ra½ dhammassavanatth±ya gacchant± viya ±gaccheyy±th±ti tesa½ ±roceyy±s²ti. Satth± vuµµhavasso pav±retv± sakkassa ±rocesi– “mah±r±ja, manussapatha½ gamiss±m²”ti Sakko suvaººamaya½ maºimaya½ rajatamayanti t²ºi sop±n±ni m±pesi. Tesa½ p±d± saªkassanagaradv±re patiµµhahi½su, s²s±ni sinerumuddhani. Tesu dakkhiºapasse suvaººamaya½ sop±na½ devat±na½ ahosi, v±mapasse rajatamaya½ sop±na½ mah±brahm±na½ ahosi, majjhe maºimaya½ sop±na½ tath±gatassa ahosi. Satth±pi sinerumuddhani µhatv± devorohaºasamaye yamakap±µih±riya½ katv± uddha½ olokesi, y±va brahmalok± ekaªgaº± ahesu½. Adho olokesi, y±va av²cito ekaªgaºa½ ahosi. Dis±vidis± olokesi, anek±ni cakkav±¼asatasahass±ni ekaªgaº±ni ahesu½. Dev± manusse passi½su, manuss±pi deve passi½su, sabbe sammukh±va passi½su.
Bhagav± chabbaººara½siyo vissajjesi. Ta½ divasa½ buddhasiri½ oloketv± chatti½sayojana parimaº¹al±ya paris±ya ekopi buddhabh±va½ apatthento n±ma natthi. Suvaººasop±nena dev± otari½su, rajatasop±nena mah±brahm±no otari½su, maºisop±nena samm±sambuddho otari. Pañcasikho gandhabbadevaputto beluvapaº¹uv²ºa½ ±d±ya dakkhiºapasse µhatv± satthu gandhabbamadhuradibbav²º±ya saddena p³ja½ karonto otari, m±tali, saªg±hako v±mapasse µhatv± dibbagandham±l±puppha½ gahetv± namassam±no p³ja½ katv± otari, mah±brahm± chatta½ dh±resi, suy±mo v±lab²jani½ dh±resi. Satth± imin± pariv±rena saddhi½ otaritv± saªkassanagaradv±re patiµµhahi. S±riputtattheropi ±gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± yasm± s±riputtattherena tath±r³p±ya buddhasiriy± otaranto satth± ito pubbe na diµµhapubbo, tasm±–
“Na me diµµho ito pubbe, na suto uda kassaci;
eva½ vagguvado satth±, tusit± gaºim±gato”ti. (Su. ni. 961; mah±ni. 190)–

¾d²hi attano tuµµhi½ pak±setv±, “bhante, ajja sabbepi devamanuss± tumh±ka½ pihayanti, patthent²”ti ±ha. Atha na½ satth±, “s±riputta, evar³pehi guºehi samann±gat± buddh± devamanuss±na½ piy± hontiyev±”ti vatv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha–

dev±pi tesa½ pihayanti, sambuddh±na½ sat²matan”ti.
Tattha ye jh±napasut±ti lakkhaº³panijjh±na½ ±rammaº³panijjh±nanti imesu dv²su jh±nesu ±vajjanasam±pajjana-adhiµµh±navuµµh±napaccavekkhaºehi yuttappayutt±. Nekkhamm³pasame rat±ti ettha pabbajj± nekkhammanti na gahetabb±, kilesav³pasamanibb±narati½ pana sandh±yeta½ vutta½. Dev±p²ti dev±pi manuss±pi tesa½ pihayanti patthenti. Sat²matanti evar³paguº±na½ tesa½ satiy± samann±gat±na½ sambuddh±na½. “Aho vata maya½ buddh± bhaveyy±m±”ti buddhabh±va½ iccham±n± pihayant²ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne ti½samatt±na½ p±ºakoµ²na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi, therassa saddhivih±rik± pañcasatabhikkh³ arahatte patiµµhahi½su.
Sabbabuddh±na½ kira avijahitameva yamakap±µih²ra½ katv± devaloke vassa½ vasitv± saªkassanagaradv±re otaraºa½. Tattha pana dakkhiºap±dassa patiµµhitaµµh±na½ acalacetiyaµµh±na½ n±ma hoti. Satth± tattha µhatv± puthujjan±d²na½ visaye pañha½ pucchi, puthujjan± attano visaye pañhe vissajjetv± sot±pannavisaye pañha½ vissajjetu½ n±sakkhi½su. Tath± sakad±g±mi-±d²na½ visaye sot±pann±dayo, mah±moggall±navisaye sesamah±s±vak±, s±riputtattherassa visaye mah±moggall±no, buddhavisaye ca s±riputtopi vissajjetu½ n±sakkhiyeva. So p±c²nadisa½ ±di½ katv± sabbadis± olokesi, sabbattha ekaªgaºameva ahosi. Aµµhasu dis±su devamanuss± uddha½ y±va brahmalok± heµµh± bh³maµµh± ca yakkhan±gasupaºº± añjali½ paggahetv±, “bhante, idha tassa pañhassa vissajjet± natthi, ettheva upadh±reth±”ti ±ha½su. Satth± s±riputto kilamati. Kiñc±pi hesa–
“Ye ca saªkh±tadhamm±se, ye ca sekh± puth³ idha;

Ima½ buddhavisaye puµµhapañha½ sutv± ‘satth± ma½ sekh±sekh±na½ ±gamanapaµipada½ pucchat²’ti pañhe nikkaªkho, khandh±d²su pana katarena nu kho mukhena ima½ paµipada½ kathento ‘aha½ satthu ajjh±saya½ gaºhitu½ na sakkhiss±m²’ti mama ajjh±saye kaªkhati, so may± naye adinne kathetu½ na sakkhissati, nayamassa dass±m²ti naya½ dassento “bh³tamida½, s±riputta, samanupassas²”ti ±ha. Eva½ kirassa ahosi “s±riputto mama ajjh±saya½ gahetv± kathento khandhavasena kathessat²”ti. Therassa saha nayad±nena so pañho nayasatena nayasahassena nayasatasahassena upaµµh±si. So satth±r± dinnanaye µhatv± ta½ pañha½ kathesi. Ýhapetv± kira samm±sambuddha½ añño s±riputtattherassa pañña½ p±puºitu½ samattho n±ma natthi. Teneva kira thero satthu purato µhatv± s²han±da½ nadi– “aha½, bhante, sakalakappampi deve vuµµhe ‘ettak±ni bind³ni mah±samudde patit±ni, ettak±ni bh³miya½, ettak±ni pabbate’ti gaºetv± lekha½ ±ropetu½ samattho”ti. Satth±pi na½ “j±n±mi, s±riputta, gaºetu½ samatthabh±van”ti ±ha. Tassa ±yasmato paññ±ya upam± n±ma natthi. Tenev±ha–

“Gaªg±ya v±luk± kh²ye, udaka½ kh²ye mahaººave;
mahiy± mattik± kh²ye, na kh²ye mama buddhiy±”ti.
Ida½ vutta½ hoti– sace hi, bhante, buddhisampannalokan±tha, may± ekasmi½ pañhe vissajjite eka½ v± v±luka½ eka½ v± udakabindu½ eka½ v± pa½sukhaº¹a½ akhipitv± pañh±na½ satena v± sahassenav± satasahassena v± vissajjite gaªg±ya v±luk±d²su ekeka½ ekamante khipeyya, khippatara½ gaªg±d²su v±luk±dayo parikkhaya½ gaccheyyu½, na tveva mama pañh±na½ vissajjananti. Eva½ mah±paññopi hi bhikkhu buddhavisaye pañhassa anta½ v± koµi½ v± adisv± satth±r± dinnanaye µhatv±va pañha½ vissajjesi. Ta½ sutv± bhikkh³ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “ya½ pañha½ puµµho sabbopi jano kathetu½ na sakkhi, ta½ dhammasen±pati s±riputto ekakova kathes²”ti. Satth± ta½ katha½ sutv± “na id±neva s±riputto ya½ pañha½ mah±jano vissajjetu½ n±sakkhi ta½ vissajjesi, pubbepi anena vissajjitoyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±haritu½–
“Parosahassampi sam±gat±na½,
kandeyyu½ te vassasata½ apaññ±;
ekova seyyo puriso sapañño,
