Idha nandat²ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto suman±devi½ ±rabbha kathesi.
S±vatthiyañhi devasika½ an±thapiº¹ikassa gehe dve bhikkh³sahass±ni bhuñjanti, tath± vis±kh±ya mah±-up±sik±ya. S±vatthiya½ yo yo d±na½ d±tuk±mo hoti, so so tesa½ ubhinna½ ok±sa½ labhitv±va karoti. Ki½ k±raº±? “Tumh±ka½ d±nagga½ an±thapiº¹iko v± vis±kh± v± ±gat±”ti pucchitv±, “n±gat±”ti vutte satasahassa½ vissajjetv± katad±nampi “ki½ d±na½ n±metan”ti garahanti. Ubhopi hi te bhikkhusaªghassa ruciñca anucchavikakicc±ni ca ativiya j±nanti, tesu vic±rentesu bhikkh³ cittar³pa½ bhuñjanti. Tasm± sabbe d±na½ d±tuk±m± te gahetv±va gacchanti. Iti te attano attano ghare bhikkh³ parivisitu½ na labhanti. Tato vis±kh±, “ko nu kho mama µh±ne µhatv± bhikkhusaªgha½ parivisissat²”ti upadh±rent² puttassa dh²tara½ disv± ta½ attano µh±ne µhapesi. S± tass± nivesane bhikkhusaªgha½ parivisati. An±thapiº¹ikopi mah±subhadda½ n±ma jeµµhadh²tara½ µhapesi. S± bhikkh³na½ veyy±vacca½ karont² dhamma½ suºant² sot±pann± hutv± patikula½ agam±si. Tato c³¼asubhadda½ µhapesi. S±pi tatheva karont² sot±pann± hutv± patikula½ gat±. Atha sumanadevi½ n±ma kaniµµhadh²tara½ µhapesi. S± pana dhamma½ sutv± sakad±g±miphala½ patv± kum±rik±va hutv± tath±r³pena aph±sukena ±tur± ±h±rupaccheda½ katv± pitara½ daµµhuk±m± hutv± pakkos±pesi. So ekasmi½ d±nagge tass± s±sana½ sutv±va ±gantv±, “ki½, amma sumane”ti ±ha. S±pi na½ ±ha– “ki½, t±ta kaniµµhabh±tik±”ti? “Vilapasi amm±”ti? “Na vilap±mi, kaniµµhabh±tik±”ti. “Bh±yasi, amm±”ti? “Na bh±y±mi, kaniµµhabh±tik±”ti. Ettaka½ vatv±yeva pana s± k±lamak±si. So sot±pannopi sam±no seµµhidh²tari uppannasoka½ adhiv±setu½ asakkonto dh²tu sar²rakicca½ k±retv± rodanto satthu santika½ gantv±, “ki½, gahapati, dukkh² dummano assumukho rodam±no ±gatos²”ti vutte, “dh²t± me, bhante, sumanadev² k±lakat±”ti ±ha. “Atha kasm± socasi, nanu sabbesa½ eka½sika½ maraºan”ti? “J±n±meta½, bhante, evar³p± n±ma me hiri-ottappasampann± dh²t±, s± maraºak±le sati½ paccupaµµh±petu½ asakkont² vilapam±n± mat±, tena me anappaka½ domanassa½ uppajjat²”ti. “Ki½ pana t±ya kathita½ mah±seµµh²”ti? “Aha½ ta½, bhante, ‘amma, sumane’ti ±mantesi½. Atha ma½ ±ha– ‘ki½, t±ta, kaniµµhabh±tik±’ti? ‘Vilapasi, amm±’ti? ‘Na vilap±mi, kaniµµhabh±tik±’ti. ‘Bh±yasi, amm±’ti? ‘Na bh±y±mi kaniµµhabh±tik±’ti. Ettaka½ vatv± k±lamak±s²”ti. Atha na½ bhagav± ±ha– “na te mah±seµµhi dh²t± vilapat²”ti. “Atha kasm± bhante evam±h±”ti? “Kaniµµhatt±yeva Dh²t± hi te, gahapati, maggaphalehi tay± mahallik±. Tvañhi sot±panno, dh²t± pana te sakad±g±min². S± maggaphalehi tay± mahallikatt± ta½ evam±h±”ti. “Eva½, bhante”ti? “Eva½, gahapat²”ti. “Id±ni kuhi½ nibbatt±, bhante”ti? “Tusitabhavane, gahapat²”ti. “Bhante, mama dh²t± idha ñ±tak±na½ antare nandam±n± vicaritv± ito gantv±pi nandanaµµh±neyeva nibbatt±”ti. Atha na½ satth± “±ma, gahapati, appamatt± n±ma gahaµµh± v± pabbajit± v± idha loke ca paraloke ca nandantiyev±”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
18. “Idha nandati pecca nandati, katapuñño ubhayattha nandati;
puñña½ me katanti nandati, bhiyyo nandati suggati½ gato”ti.
Tattha idh±ti idha loke kammanandanena nandati. Pecc±ti paraloke vip±kanandanena nandati. Katapuññoti n±nappak±rassa puññassa katt±. Ubhayatth±ti idha “kata½ me kusala½, akata½ me p±pan”ti nandati, parattha vip±ka½ anubhavanto nandati. Puñña½ meti idha nandanto pana “puñña½ me katan”ti somanassamatteneva kammanandana½ up±d±ya nandati. Bhiyyoti vip±kanandanena pana sugati½ gato sattapaññ±savassakoµiyo saµµhivassasatasahass±ni dibbasampatti½ anubhavanto tusitapure ativiya nandat²ti.
