1. M±radh²taravatthu

Yassa jitanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± bodhimaº¹e viharanto m±radh²taro ±rabbha kathesi. Desana½ pana s±vatthiya½ samuµµh±petv± puna kururaµµhe m±gaº¹iyabr±hmaºassa kathesi.
Kururaµµhe kira m±gaº¹iyabr±hmaºassa dh²t± m±gaº¹iy±yeva n±ma ahosi uttamar³padhar±. Ta½ patthayam±n± anekabr±hmaºamah±s±l± ceva khattiyamah±s±l± ca “dh²tara½ no det³”ti m±gaº¹iyassa pahiºi½su. Sopi “na tumhe mayha½ dh²tu anucchavik±”ti sabbe paµikkhipateva. Athekadivasa½ satth± pacc³sasamaye loka½ volokento attano ñ±ºaj±lassa anto paviµµha½ m±gaº¹iyabr±hmaºa½ disv± “ki½ nu kho bhavissat²”ti upadh±rento br±hmaºassa ca br±hmaºiy± ca tiººa½ maggaphal±na½ upanissaya½ addasa. Br±hmaºopi bahig±me nibaddha½ aggi½ paricarati. Satth± p±tova pattac²varam±d±ya ta½ µh±na½ agam±si. Br±hmaºo satthu r³pasiri½ olokento “imasmi½ loke imin± sadiso puriso n±ma natthi, aya½ mayha½ dh²tu anucchaviko, imassa me dh²tara½ dass±m±”ti cintetv± satth±ra½ ±ha– “samaºa, mama ek± dh²t± atthi, aha½ tass± anucchavika½ purisa½ apassanto ta½ na kassaci ad±si½, tva½ panass± anucchaviko, aha½ te dh²tara½ p±daparic±rika½ katv± d±tuk±mo, y±va na½ ±nemi, t±va idheva tiµµh±h²”ti. Satth± tassa katha½ sutv± neva abhinandi, na paµikkosi.
Br±hmaºopi geha½ gantv± br±hmaºi½ ±ha– “bhoti, ajja me dh²tu anucchaviko puriso diµµho, tassa na½ dass±m±”ti dh²tara½ alaªk±r±petv± ±d±ya br±hmaºiy± saddhi½ ta½ µh±na½ agam±si. Mah±janopi kut³halaj±to nikkhami. Satth± br±hmaºena vuttaµµh±ne aµµhatv± tattha padacetiya½ dassetv± aññasmi½ µh±ne aµµh±si. Buddh±na½ kira padacetiya½ “ida½ asuko n±ma passat³”ti adhiµµhahitv± akkantaµµh±neyeva paññ±yati, sesaµµh±ne ta½ passanto n±ma natthi. Br±hmaºo attan± saddhi½ gaccham±n±ya br±hmaºiy± “kaha½ so”ti puµµho “imasmi½ µh±ne tiµµh±h²ti ta½ avacan”ti olokento padavalañja½ disv± “idamassa padan”ti dassesi. S± lakkhaºamantakusalat±ya “na ida½, br±hmaºa, k±mabhogino padan”ti vatv± br±hmaºena, “bhoti, tva½ udakap±timhi susum±ra½ passasi, may± so samaºo diµµho ‘dh²tara½ te dass±m²’ti vutto, ten±pi adhiv±sitan”ti vutte, “br±hmaºa, kiñc±pi tva½ eva½ vadesi, ida½ pana nikkilesasseva padan”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Rattassa hi ukkuµika½ pada½ bhave,
duµµhassa hoti sahas±nup²¼ita½;
m³¼hassa hoti avaka¹¹hita½ pada½,
vivaµµacchadassa idam²disa½ padan”ti. (Visuddhi. 1.45; a. ni. aµµha. 1.1.260-261; dha. pa. aµµha. 1.s±m±vat²vatthu).
Atha na½ br±hmaºo, “bhoti, m± viravi, tuºh²bh³t±va eh²”ti gacchanto satth±ra½ disv± “aya½ so puriso”ti tass± dassetv± satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv±, “samaºa, dh²tara½ te dass±m²”ti ±ha. Satth± “na me tava dh²t±ya attho”ti avatv±, “br±hmaºa, eka½ te k±raºa½ kathess±mi, suºissas²”ti vatv± “kathehi, bho samaºa, suºiss±m²”ti vutte abhinikkhamanato paµµh±ya at²ta½ ±haritv± dassesi.
Tatr±ya½ saªkhepakath±– mah±satto rajjasiri½ pah±ya kaºµaka½ ±ruyha channasah±yo abhinikkhamanto nagaradv±re µhitena m±rena “siddhattha, nivatta, ito te sattame divase cakkaratana½ p±tubhavissat²”ti vutte, “ahameta½, m±ra, j±n±mi, na me tenattho”ti ±ha. Atha kimatth±ya nikkhamas²ti? Sabbaññutaññ±ºatth±y±ti. “Tena hi sace ajjato paµµh±ya k±mavitakk±d²na½ ekampi vitakka½ vitakkessasi, j±niss±mi te kattabban”ti ±ha. So tato paµµh±ya ot±r±pekkho satta vass±ni mah±satta½ anubandhi.
Satth±pi chabbass±ni dukkarak±rika½ caritv± paccattapurisak±ra½ niss±ya bodhim³le sabbaññutaññ±ºa½ paµivijjhitv± vimuttisukha½ paµisa½vedayam±no pañcamasatt±he ajap±lanigrodham³le nis²di. Tasmi½ samaye m±ro “aha½ ettaka½ k±la½ anubandhitv± ot±r±pekkhopi imassa kiñci khalita½ n±ddasa½, atikkanto id±ni esa mama visayan”ti domanassappatto mah±magge nis²di. Athassa taºh± arat² rag±ti im± tisso dh²taro “pit± no na paññ±yati, kaha½ nu kho etarah²”ti olokayam±n± ta½ tath± nisinna½ disv± upasaªkamitv± “kasm± t±ta, dukkh² dummanos²”ti pucchi½su. So t±sa½ tamattha½ ±rocesi. Atha na½ t± ±ha½su– “t±ta, m± cintayi, maya½ ta½ attano vase katv± ±ness±m±”ti. “Na sakk± amm±, esa kenaci vase k±tunti. “T±ta, maya½ itthiyo n±ma id±neva na½ r±gap±s±d²hi bandhitv± ±ness±ma, tumhe m± cintayitth±”ti satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± “p±de te, samaºa, paric±rem±”ti ±ha½su. Satth± neva t±sa½ vacana½ manas±k±si, na akkh²ni umm²letv± olokesi.
Puna m±radh²taro “ucc±vac± kho puris±na½ adhipp±y±, kesañci kum±rik±su pema½ hoti, kesañci paµhamavaye µhit±su, kesañci majjhimavaye µhit±su, kesañci pacchimavaye µhit±su, n±nappak±rehi ta½ palobhess±m±”ti ekek± kum±rikavaºº±divasena sata½ sata½ attabh±ve abhinimminitv± kum±riyo, avij±t±, saki½ vij±t±, duvij±t±, majjhimitthiyo, mahallakitthiyo ca hutv± chakkhattu½ bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± “p±de te, samaºa, paric±rem±”ti ±ha½su. Tampi bhagav± na manas±k±si yath± ta½ anuttare upadhisaªkhaye vimuttoti. Atha satth± ettakenapi t± anugacchantiyo “apetha, ki½ disv± eva½ v±yamatha, evar³pa½ n±ma v²tar±g±na½ purato k±tu½ na vaµµati. Tath±gatassa pana r±g±dayo pah²n±. Kena ta½ k±raºena attano vasa½ nessath±”ti vatv± im± g±th± abh±si–
179. “Yassa jita½ n±vaj²yati,
jita½ yassa noy±ti koci loke;
ta½ buddhamanantagocara½,
apada½ kena padena nessatha.
180. “Yassa j±lin² visattik±,
taºh± natthi kuhiñci netave;
ta½ buddhamanantagocara½,
apada½ kena padena nessath±”ti.
Tattha yassa jita½ n±vaj²yat²ti yassa samm±sambuddhassa tena tena maggena jita½ r±g±dikilesaj±ta½ puna asamud±caraºato n±vaj²yati, dujjita½ n±ma na hoti. Noy±t²ti na uyy±ti, yassa jita½ kilesaj±ta½ r±g±d²su koci eko kilesopi loke pacchato vatt² n±ma na hoti, n±nubandhat²ti attho. Anantagocaranti anant±rammaºassa sabbaññutaññ±ºassa vasena apariyanta gocara½. Kena paden±ti yassa hi r±gapad±d²su ekapadampi atthi, ta½ tumhe tena padena nessatha. Buddhassa pana ekapadampi natthi, ta½ apada½ buddha½ tumhe kena padena nessatha.
Dutiyag±th±ya taºh± n±mes± sa½sibbitapariyonandhanaµµhena j±lamass± atth²tipi j±lak±rik±tipi j±l³pam±tipi j±lin². R³p±d²su ±rammaºesu visattat±ya visattamanat±ya vis±harat±ya visapupphat±ya visaphalat±ya visaparibhogat±ya visattik±. S± evar³p± taºh± yassa kuhiñci bhave netu½ natthi, ta½ tumhe apada½ buddha½ kena padena nessath±ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne bah³na½ devat±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi. M±radh²taropi tattheva antaradh±yi½su.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv±, “m±gaº¹iya, aha½ pubbe im± tisso m±radh²taro addasa½ semh±d²hi apalibuddhena suvaººakkhandhasadisena attabh±vena samann±gat±, tad±pi methunasmi½ chando n±hosiyeva. Tava dh²tu sar²ra½ dvatti½s±k±rakuºapaparip³ra½ bahivicitto viya asucighaµo. Sace hi mama p±do asucimakkhito bhaveyya, ayañca umm±raµµh±ne tiµµheyya, tath±piss± sar²re aha½ p±de na phuseyyan”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Disv±na taºha½ arati½ ragañca,
n±hosi chando api methunasmi½;
kimevida½ muttakar²sapuººa½,
p±d±pi na½ samphusitu½ na icche”ti. (Su. ni. 841; mah±ni. 70).
