Pathaby± ekarajjen±ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto k±la½ n±ma an±thapiº¹ikassa putta½ ±rabbha kathesi.
So kira tath±vidhassa saddh±sampannassa seµµhino putto hutv± neva satthu santika½ gantu½, na geha½ ±gatak±le daµµhu½, na dhamma½ sotu½, na saªghassa veyy±vacca½ k±tu½ icchati. Pitar± “m± eva½, t±ta, kar²”ti vuttopi tassa vacana½ na suº±ti. Athassa pit± cintesi– “aya½ evar³pa½ diµµhi½ gahetv± vicaranto av²cipar±yaºo bhavissati, na kho paneta½ patir³pa½, ya½ mayi passante mama putto niraya½ gaccheyya. Imasmi½ kho pana loke dhanad±nena abhijjanakasatto n±ma natthi, dhanena na½ bhindiss±m²”ti. Atha na½ ±ha– “t±ta, uposathiko hutv± vih±ra½ gantv± dhamma½ sutv± ehi, kah±paºasata½ te dass±m²”ti. Dassatha, t±t±ti. Dass±mi, putt±ti. So y±vatatiya½ paµiñña½ gahetv± uposathiko hutv± vih±ra½ agam±si. Dhammassavanena panassa kicca½ natthi, yath±ph±sukaµµh±ne sayitv± p±tova geha½ agam±si. Athassa pit± “putto me uposathiko ahosi, s²ghamassa y±gu-±d²ni ±harath±”ti vatv± d±pesi. So “kah±paºe aggahetv± na bhuñjiss±m²”ti ±haµ±haµa½ paµikkhipi. Athassa pit± p²¼a½ asahanto kah±paºabhaº¹a½ d±pesi. So ta½ hatthena gahetv±va ±h±ra½ paribhuñji.
Atha na½ punadivase seµµhi, “t±ta, kah±paºasahassa½ te dass±mi, satthu purato µhatv± eka½ dhammapada½ uggaºhitv± ±gaccheyy±s²”ti pesesi. Sopi vih±ra½ gantv± satthu purato µhatv±va ekameva pada½ uggaºhitv± pal±yituk±mo ahosi. Athassa satth± asallakkhaº±k±ra½ ak±si. So ta½ pada½ asallakkhetv± uparipada½ uggaºhiss±m²ti µhatv± assosiyeva Uggaºhiss±m²ti suºantova kira sakkacca½ suº±ti n±ma. Evañca kira suºant±na½ dhammo sot±pattimagg±dayo deti. Sopi uggaºhiss±m²ti suº±ti, satth±pissa asallakkhaº±k±ra½ karoti. So “uparipada½ uggaºhiss±m²”ti µhatv± suºantova sot±pattiphale patiµµh±si.
So punadivase buddhappamukhena bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½yeva s±vatthi½ p±visi. Mah±seµµhi ta½ disv± “ajja mama puttassa ±k±ro ruccat²”ti cintesi. Tassapi etadahosi– “aho vata me pit± ajja satthu santike kah±paºe na dadeyya, kah±paºak±raº± mayha½ uposathikabh±va½ paµicch±deyy±”ti. Satth± panassa hiyyova kah±paºassa k±raº± uposathikabh±va½ aññ±si. Mah±seµµhi, buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaªghassa y±gu½ d±petv± puttassapi d±pesi. So nis²ditv± tuºh²bh³tova y±gu½ pivi, kh±dan²ya½ kh±di, bhatta½ bhuñji. Mah±seµµhi satthu bhattakicc±vas±ne puttassa purato sahassabhaº¹ika½ µhap±petv±, “t±ta, may± te ‘sahassa½ dass±m²’ti vatv± uposatha½ sam±d±petv± vih±ra½ pahito. Ida½ te sahassan”ti ±ha. So satthu purato kah±paºe diyyam±ne disv± lajjanto “ala½ me kah±paºeh²”ti vatv±, “gaºha, t±t±”ti vuccam±nopi na gaºhi. Athassa pit± satth±ra½ vanditv±, “bhante, ajja me puttassa ±k±ro ruccat²”ti vatv± “ki½, mah±seµµh²”ti vutte “may± esa purimadivase ‘kah±paºasata½ te dass±m²’ti vatv± vih±ra½ pesito. Punadivase kah±paºe aggahetv± bhuñjitu½ na icchi, ajja pana diyyam±nepi kah±paºe na icchat²”ti ±ha. Satth± “±ma, mah±seµµhi, ajja tava puttassa cakkavattisampattitopi devalokabrahmalokasampatt²hipi sot±pattiphalameva varan”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

Sabbalok±dhipaccen±ti na ekasmi½ ettake loke n±gasupaººavem±nikapetehi saddhi½, sabbasmi½ loke ±dhipaccena. Sot±pattiphala½ varanti yasm± ettake µh±ne rajja½ k±retv±pi niray±d²hi amuttova hoti, sot±panno pana pihit±p±yadv±ro hutv± sabbadubbalopi aµµhame bhave na nibbattati, tasm± sot±pattiphalameva vara½ uttamanti attho.
