Satth± bhattakicc±vas±ne anumodana½ karonto “addhuva½ me j²vita½, dhuva½ me maraºa½, avassa½ may± maritabbameva maraºapariyos±na½ me j²vita½, j²vitameva aniyata½, maraºa½ niyatanti eva½ maraºassati½ bh±vetha. Yesañhi maraºassati abh±vit±, te pacchime k±le ±s²visa½ disv± bh²ta-adaº¹apuriso viya sant±sappatt± bheravarava½ ravant± k±la½ karonti. Yesa½ pana maraºassati bh±vit±, te d³ratova ±s²visa½ disv± daº¹akena gahetv± cha¹¹etv± µhitapuriso viya pacchime k±le na santasanti, tasm± maraºassati bh±vetabb±”ti ±ha. Satth±pi tato nikkhamitv± jetavana½ agam±si. S±pi kum±rik± t²ºi vass±ni maraºassati½ bh±vesiyeva.
Athekadivasa½ satth± pacc³sasamaye loka½ olokento ta½ kum±rika½ attano ñ±ºaj±lassa antopaviµµha½ disv± “ki½ nu kho bhavissat²”ti upadh±rento “im±ya kum±rik±ya mama dhammadesan±ya sutadivasato paµµh±ya t²ºi vass±ni maraºassati bh±vit±, id±n±ha½ tattha gantv± ima½ kum±rika½ catt±ro pañhe pucchitv± t±ya vissajjentiy± cat³su µh±nesu s±dhuk±ra½ datv± ima½ g±tha½ bh±siss±mi. S±pi kho kum±rik± tasara½ vaµµetv± pacchiya½ µhapetv± pitu santika½ gaccham±n± parisapariyante µhatv± satth±ra½ olokayam±n±va aµµh±si. Satth±pi g²va½ ukkhipitv± ta½ olokesi. S± olokit±k±reneva aññ±si– “satth± evar³p±ya paris±ya majjhe nis²ditv±va ma½ olokento mam±gamana½ pacc±s²sati, attano santika½ ±gamanameva pacc±s²sat²”ti. S± tasarapacchi½ µhapetv± satthu santika½ agam±si. Kasm± pana na½ satth± olokes²ti? Eva½ kirassa ahosi “es± ettova gaccham±n± puthujjanak±lakiriya½ katv± aniyatagatik± bhavissati, mama santika½ ±gantv± gaccham±n± sot±pattiphala½ patv± niyatagatik± hutv± tusitavim±ne nibbattissat²”ti. Tass± kira ta½ divasa½ maraºato mutti n±ma natthi. S± olokitasaññ±ºeneva satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± chabbaººara½s²na½ antara½ pavisitv± vanditv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Tath±r³p±ya paris±ya majjhe nis²ditv± tuºh²bh³ta½ satth±ra½ vanditv± µhitakkhaºeyeva ta½ ±ha– “kum±rike, kuto ±gacchas²”ti? “Na j±n±mi, bhante”ti. “Kattha gamissas²”ti? “Na j±n±mi, bhante”ti. “Na j±n±s²”ti? “J±n±mi, bhante”ti. “J±n±s²”ti? “Na j±n±mi, bhante”ti. Iti na½ satth± catt±ro pañhe pucchi. Mah±jano ujjh±yi– “ambho, passatha, aya½ pesak±radh²t± samm±sambuddhena saddhi½ icchiticchita½ kathesi, nanu n±ma im±ya ‘kuto ±gacchas²’ti vutte ‘pesak±ragehato’ti vattabba½. ‘Kaha½ gacchas²’ti vutte ‘pesak±ras±lan’ti vattabba½ siy±”ti.
Satth± mah±jana½ nissadda½ katv±, “kum±rike, tva½ kuto ±gacchas²”ti vutte “kasm± na j±n±m²ti vades²”ti pucchi. Bhante, tumhe mama pesak±ragehato ±gatabh±va½ j±n±tha, “kuto ±gat±s²”ti pucchant± pana “kuto ±gantv± idha nibbatt±s²”ti pucchatha. Aha½ pana na j±n±mi “kuto ca ±gantv± idha nibbatt±mh²”ti. Athass± satth± “s±dhu s±dhu, kum±rike, may± pucchitapañhova tay± vissajjito”ti paµhama½ s±dhuk±ra½ datv± uttarimpi pucchi– “kattha gamissas²ti puna puµµh± kasm± ‘na j±n±m²’ti vades²”ti? Bhante, tumhe ma½ tasarapacchi½ gahetv± pesak±ras±la½ gacchanti½ j±n±tha, “ito gantv± kattha nibbattissas²”ti pucchatha. Ahañca ito cut± na j±n±mi “kattha gantv± nibbattiss±m²”ti. Athass± satth± “may± pucchitapañhoyeva tay± vissajjito”ti dutiya½ s±dhuk±ra½ datv± uttarimpi pucchi– “atha kasm± ‘na j±n±s²’ti puµµh± ‘j±n±m²’ti vades²”ti? “Maraºabh±va½ j±n±mi, bhante, tasm± eva½ vadem²”ti. Athass± satth± “may± pucchitapañhoyeva tay± vissajjito”ti catuttha½ s±dhuk±ra½ datv± parisa½ ±mantetv± “ettaka½ n±ma tumhe im±ya kathita½ na j±n±tha, kevala½ ujjh±yatheva. Yesañhi paññ±cakkhu natthi, te andh± eva Yesa½ paññ±cakkhu atthi, te eva cakkhumanto”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

sakuºo j±lamuttova, appo sagg±ya gacchat²”ti.
Tattha andhabh³to aya½ lokoti aya½ lokiyamah±jano paññ±cakkhuno abh±vena andhabh³to. Tanuketth±ti tanuko ettha, na bahu jano anicc±divasena vipassati. J±lamuttov±ti yath± chekena s±kuºikena j±lena ottharitv± gayham±nesu vaµµakesu kocideva j±lato muccati. Ses± antoj±lameva pavisanti. Tath± maraºaj±lena otthaµesu sattesu bah³ ap±yag±mino honti, appo kocideva satto sagg±ya gacchati, sugati½ v± nibb±na½ v± p±puº±t²ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne kum±rik± sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi, mah±janass±pi s±tthik± dhammadesan± ahos²ti.
S±pi tasarapacchi½ gahetv± pitu santika½ agam±si, sopi nisinnakova nidd±yi. Tass± asallakkhetv±va tasarapacchi½ upan±mentiy± tasarapacchi vemakoµiya½ paµihaññitv± sadda½ kurum±n± pati. So pabujjhitv± gahitanimitteneva vemakoµi½ ±ka¹¹hi. Vemakoµi gantv± ta½ kum±rika½ ure pahari, s± tattheva k±la½ katv± tusitabhavane nibbatti. Athass± pit± ta½ olokento sakalasar²rena lohitamakkhitena patitv± mata½ addasa. Athassa mah±soko uppajji. So “na mama soka½ añño nibb±petu½ sakkhissat²”ti rodanto satthu santika½ gantv± tamattha½ ±rocetv±, “bhante, soka½ me nibb±peth±”ti ±ha. Satth± ta½ samass±setv± “m± soci, up±saka. Anamataggasmiñhi sa½s±re tava evameva dh²tu maraºak±le paggharita-assu catunna½ mah±samudd±na½ udakato atirekataran”ti vatv± anamataggakatha½ kathesi So tanubh³tasoko satth±ra½ pabbajja½ y±citv± laddh³pasampado na cirasseva arahatta½ p±puº²ti.
