S± kira r±jagahanagare seµµhidh²t± viññuta½ pattak±lato paµµh±ya pabbajja½ y±ci. Atha s± punappuna½ y±cam±n±pi m±t±pit³na½ santik± pabbajja½ alabhitv± vayappatt± patikula½ gantv± patidevat± hutv± ag±ra½ ajjh±vasi. Athass± na cirasseva kucchismi½ gabbho patiµµhahi. S± gabbhassa patiµµhitabh±va½ aj±nitv±va s±mika½ ±r±dhetv± pabbajja½ y±ci. Atha na½ so mahantena sakk±rena bhikkhunupassaya½ netv± aj±nanto devadattapakkhik±na½ bhikkhun²na½ santike pabb±jesi. Aparena samayena bhikkhuniyo tass± gabbhinibh±va½ ñatv± t±hi “ki½ idan”ti vutt± n±ha½, ayye, j±n±mi “kimeta½”, s²la½ vata me arogamev±ti. Bhikkhuniyo ta½ devadattassa santika½ netv± “aya½ bhikkhun² saddh±pabbajit±, imiss± maya½ gabbhassa patiµµhitabh±va½ j±n±ma, k±la½ na j±n±ma, ki½ d±ni karom±”ti pucchi½su. Devadatto “m± mayha½ ov±dak±rik±na½ bhikkhun²na½ ayaso uppajjat³”ti ettakameva cintetv± “uppabb±jetha nan”ti ±ha. Ta½ sutv± s± dahar± m± ma½, ayye, n±setha, n±ha½ devadatta½ uddissa pabbajit±, etha, ma½ satthu santika½ jetavana½ neth±ti. T± ta½ ±d±ya jetavana½ gantv± satthu ±rocesu½. Satth± “tass± gihik±le gabbho patiµµhito”ti j±nantopi parav±damocanattha½ r±j±na½ pasenadikosala½ mah±-an±thapiº¹ika½ c³¼a-an±thapiº¹ika½ vis±kh±-up±sika½ aññ±ni ca mah±kul±ni pakkos±petv± up±litthera½ ±º±pesi– “gaccha, imiss± dahar±ya bhikkhuniy± catuparisamajjhe kamma½ parisodheh²”ti. Thero rañño purato vis±kha½ pakkos±petv± ta½ adhikaraºa½ paµicch±pesi. S± s±ºip±k±ra½ parikkhip±petv± antos±ºiya½ tass± hatthap±dan±bhi-udarapariyos±n±ni oloketv± m±sadivase sam±netv± “gihibh±ve im±ya gabbho laddho”ti ñatv± therassa tamattha½ ±rocesi. Athass± thero parisamajjhe parisuddhabh±va½ patiµµh±pesi. S± aparena samayena padumuttarabuddhassa p±dam³le patthitapatthana½ mah±nubh±va½ putta½ vij±yi.
Athekadivasa½ r±j± bhikkhunupassayasam²pena gacchanto d±rakasadda½ sutv± “ki½ idan”ti pucchitv±, “deva, ekiss± bhikkhuniy± putto j±to, tassesa saddo”ti vutte ta½ kum±ra½ attano ghara½ netv± dh±t²na½ ad±si. N±maggahaºadivase cassa kassapoti n±ma½ katv± kum±raparih±rena va¹¹hitatt± kum±rakassapoti sañj±ni½su. So k²¼±maº¹ale d±rake paharitv± “nimm±t±pitikenamh± pahaµ±”ti vutte r±j±na½ upasaªkamitv±, “deva, ma½ ‘nimm±t±pitiko’ti vadanti, m±tara½ me ±cikkhath±”ti pucchitv± raññ± dh±tiyo dassetv± “im± te m±taro”ti vutte “na ettik± me m±taro, ek±ya me m±tar± bhavitabba½, ta½ me ±cikkhath±”ti ±ha. R±j± “na sakk± ima½ vañcetun”ti cintetv±, t±ta, tava m±t± bhikkhun², tva½ may± bhikkhunupassay± ±n²toti. So t±vatakeneva samuppannasa½vego hutv±, “t±ta, pabb±jetha man”ti ±ha. R±j± “s±dhu, t±t±”ti ta½ mahantena sakk±rena satthu santike pabb±jesi. So laddh³pasampado kum±rakassapattheroti paññ±yi. So satthu santike kammaµµh±na½ gahetv± arañña½ pavisitv± v±yamitv± visesa½ nibbattetu½ asakkonto “puna kammaµµh±na½ visesetv± gahess±m²”ti satthu santika½ gantv± andhavane vih±si.
Atha na½ kassapabuddhak±le ekato samaºadhamma½ katv± an±g±miphala½ patv± brahmaloke nibbattabhikkhu brahmalokato ±gantv± pannarasa pañhe pucchitv± “ime pañhe µhapetv± satth±ra½ añño by±k±tu½ samattho n±ma natthi, gaccha, satthu santike imesa½ attha½ uggaºh±”ti uyyojesi. So tath± katv± pañhavissajjan±vas±ne arahatta½ p±puºi. Tassa pana nikkhantadivasato paµµh±ya dv±dasa vass±ni m±tubhikkhuniy± akkh²hi ass³ni pavatti½su. S± puttaviyogadukkhit± assutinteneva mukhena bhikkh±ya caram±n± antarav²thiya½ thera½ disv±va, “putta putt±”ti viravant² ta½ gaºhitu½ upadh±vam±n± parivattitv± pati. S± thanehi kh²ra½ muñcantehi uµµhahitv± allac²var± gantv± thera½ gaºhi. So cintesi– “sac±ya½ mama santik± madhuravacana½ labhissati, vinassissati. Thaddhameva katv± im±ya saddhi½ sallapiss±m²”ti. Atha na½ ±ha– “ki½ karont² vicarasi, sinehamattampi chinditu½ na sakkos²”ti. S± “aho kakkha¼± therassa kath±”ti cintetv± “ki½ vadesi, t±t±”ti vatv± punapi tena tatheva vutt± cintesi– “aha½ imassa k±raº± dv±dasa vass±ni ass³ni sandh±retu½ na sakkomi, aya½ paneva½ thaddhahadayo, ki½ me imin±”ti puttasineha½ chinditv± ta½divasameva arahatta½ p±puºi.
Aparena samayena dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “±vuso, devadattena eva½ upanissayasampanno kum±rakassapo ca ther² ca n±sit±, satth± pana tesa½ patiµµh± j±to, aho buddh± n±ma lok±nukampak±”ti Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva aha½ imesa½ paccayo patiµµh± j±to, pubbepi nesa½ aha½ patiµµh± ahosi½yev±”ti vatv±–
“Nigrodhameva seveyya, na s±khamupasa½vase;
nigrodhasmi½ mata½ seyyo, yañce s±khasmi j²vitan”ti. (J±. 1.1.12; 1.10.81)–

Ima½ nigrodhaj±taka½ vitth±rena kathetv± “tad± s±khamigo devadatto ahosi, paris±pissa devadattaparis±, v±rappatt± migadhenu ther² ahosi, putto kum±rakassapo, gabbhin²migiy± j²vita½ pariccajitv± gato nigrodhamigar±j± pana ahamev±”ti j±taka½ samodh±netv± puttasineha½ chinditv± theriy± attan±va attano patiµµh±nakatabh±va½ pak±sento, “bhikkhave, yasm± parassa attani µhitena saggapar±yaºena v± maggapar±yaºena v± bhavitu½ na sakk±, tasm± att±va attano n±tho, paro ki½ karissat²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

160. “Att± hi attano n±tho, ko hi n±tho paro siy±;
attan± hi sudantena, n±tha½ labhati dullabhan”ti.
Tattha n±thoti patiµµh±. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– yasm± attani µhitena attasampannena kusala½ katv± sagga½ v± p±puºitu½, magga½ v± bh±vetu½, phala½ v± sacchik±tu½ sakk± Tasm± hi att±va attano patiµµh± hoti, paro ko n±ma kassa patiµµh± siy±. Attan± eva hi sudantena nibbisevanena arahattaphalasaªkh±ta½ dullabha½ n±tha½ labhati. Arahattañhi sandh±ya idha “n±tha½ labhati dullabhan”ti vutta½.
