Att±nañceti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± bhesaka¼±vane viharanto bodhir±jakum±ra½ ±rabbha kathesi.
So kira pathav²tale aññehi p±s±dehi asadisar³pa½ ±k±se uppatam±na½ viya kokanuda½ n±ma p±s±da½ k±retv± va¹¹haki½ pucchi– “ki½ tay± aññatth±pi evar³po p±s±do katapubbo, ud±hu paµhamasippameva te idan”ti. “Paµhamasippameva, dev±”ti ca vutte cintesi– “sace aya½ aññassapi evar³pa½ p±s±da½ karissati, aya½ p±s±do anacchariyo bhavissati. Ima½ may± m±retu½ v± hatthap±de v±ssa chinditu½ akkh²ni v± upp±µetu½ vaµµati, eva½ aññassa p±s±da½ na karissat²”ti. So tamattha½ attano piyasah±yakassa sañj²vakaputtassa n±ma m±ºavakassa kathesi. So cintesi– “nissa½saya½ esa va¹¹haki½ n±sessati, anaggho sipp², so mayi passante m± nassatu, saññamassa dass±m²”ti. So ta½ upasaªkamitv± “p±s±de te kamma½ niµµhita½, no”ti pucchitv± “niµµhitan”ti vutte “r±jakum±ro ta½ n±setuk±mo att±na½ rakkheyy±s²”ti ±ha Va¹¹hak²pi “bhaddaka½ te, s±mi, kata½ mama ±rocentena, ahamettha kattabba½ j±niss±m²”ti vatv± “ki½, samma, amh±ka½ p±s±de kamma½ niµµhitan”ti r±jakum±rena puµµho “na t±va, deva, niµµhita½, bahu avasiµµhan”ti ±ha. Ki½ kamma½ n±ma avasiµµhanti? Pacch±, deva, ±cikkhiss±mi, d±r³ni t±va ±har±peth±ti. Ki½ d±r³ni n±m±ti? Niss±r±ni sukkhad±r³ni, dev±ti. So ±har±petv± ad±si. Atha na½ ±ha– “deva, te ito paµµh±ya mama santika½ n±gantabba½. Ki½ k±raº±? Sukhumakamma½ karontassa hi aññehi saddhi½ sallapantassa me kammavikkhepo hoti, ±h±ravel±ya½ pana me bhariy±va ±h±ra½ ±harissat²”ti. R±jakum±ropi “s±dh³”ti paµissuºi. Sopi ekasmi½ gabbhe nis²ditv± t±ni d±r³ni tacchetv± attano puttad±rassa anto nis²danayogga½ garu¼asakuºa½ katv± ±h±ravel±ya pana bhariya½ ±ha– “gehe vijjam±naka½ sabba½ vikkiºitv± hiraññasuvaººa½ gaºh±h²”ti. R±jakum±ropi va¹¹hakissa anikkhamanatth±ya geha½ parikkhipitv± ±rakkha½ µhapesi. Va¹¹hak²pi sakuºassa niµµhitak±le “ajja sabbepi d±rake gahetv± ±gaccheyy±s²”ti bhariya½ vatv± bhuttap±tar±so puttad±ra½ sakuºassa kucchiya½ nis²d±petv± v±tap±nena nikkhamitv± pal±yi. So tesa½, “deva, va¹¹hak² pal±yat²”ti kandant±na½yeva gantv± himavante otaritv± eka½ nagara½ m±petv± kaµµhav±hanar±j± n±ma j±to.
R±jakum±ropi “p±s±damaha½ kariss±m²”ti satth±ra½ nimantetv± p±s±de catujj±tiyagandhehi paribhaº¹ika½ katv± paµhama-umm±rato paµµh±ya celapaµika½ patthari. So kira aputtako, tasm± “sac±ha½ putta½ v± dh²tara½ v± lacch±mi, satth± ima½ akkamissat²”ti cintetv± patthari. So satthari ±gate satth±ra½ pañcapatiµµhitena vanditv± patta½ gahetv± “pavisatha, bhante”ti ±ha. Satth± na p±visi, so dutiyampi tatiyampi y±ci. Satth± apavisitv±va ±nandatthera½ olokesi. Thero olokitasaññ±yeva vatth±na½ anakkamanabh±va½ ñatv± ta½ “sa½haratu, r±jakum±ra, duss±ni, na bhagav± celapaµika½ akkamissati, pacchimajanata½ tath±gato oloket²”ti duss±ni sa½har±pesi. So duss±ni sa½haritv± satth±ra½ antonivesana½ pavesatv± y±gukhajjakena samm±netv± ekamanta½ nisinno vanditv± ±ha– “bhante, aha½ tumh±ka½ upak±rako tikkhattu½ saraºa½ gato, kucchigato ca kiramhi ekav±ra½ saraºa½ gato, dutiya½ taruºad±rakak±le, tatiya½ viññubh±va½ pattak±le. Tassa me kasm± celapaµika½ na akkamitth±”ti? “Ki½ pana tva½, kum±ra, cintetv± cel±ni atthar²”ti? “Sace putta½ v± dh²tara½ v± lacch±mi, satth± me celapaµika½ akkamissat²”ti ida½ cintetv±, bhanteti. Tenev±ha½ ta½ na akkaminti. “Ki½ pan±ha½, bhante, putta½ v± dh²tara½ v± neva lacch±m²”ti? “¾ma, kum±r±”ti. “Ki½ k±raº±”ti? “Purimaka-attabh±ve j±y±ya saddhi½ pam±da½ ±pannatt±”ti. “Kasmi½ k±le, bhante”ti? Athassa satth± at²ta½ ±haritv± dassesi–
At²te kira anekasat± manuss± mahatiy± n±v±ya samudda½ pakkhandi½su. N±v± samuddamajjhe bhijji. Dve jayampatik± eka½ phalaka½ gahetv± antarad²paka½ pavisi½su, ses± sabbe tattheva mari½su. Tasmi½ kho pana d²pake mah±sakuºasaªgho vasati. Te añña½ kh±ditabbaka½ adisv± ch±tajjhatt± sakuºa-aº¹±ni aªg±resu pacitv± kh±di½su, tesu appahontesu sakuºacch±pe gahetv± kh±di½su. Eva½ paµhamavayepi majjhimavayepi pacchimavayepi kh±di½suyeva. Ekasmimpi vaye appam±da½ n±pajji½su, ekopi ca nesa½ appam±da½ n±pajji.
Satth± ida½ tassa pubbakamma½ dassetv± “sace hi tva½, kum±ra, tad± ekasmimpi vaye bhariy±ya saddhi½ appam±da½ ±pajjissa, ekasmimpi vaye putto v± dh²t± v± uppajjeyya. Sace pana vo ekopi appamatto abhavissa, ta½ paµicca putto v± dh²t± v± uppajjissa. Kum±ra, att±nañhi piya½ maññam±nena t²supi vayesu appamattena att± rakkhitabbo, eva½ asakkontena ekavayepi rakkhitabboyev±”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

Tattha y±manti satth± attano dhammissarat±ya desan±kusalat±ya ca idha tiººa½ vay±na½ aññatara½ vaya½ y±manti katv± desesi, tasm± evamettha attho veditabbo. Sace att±na½ piya½ j±neyya, rakkheyya na½ surakkhitanti yath± so surakkhito hoti, eva½ na½ rakkheyya. Tattha sace g²h² sam±no “att±na½ rakkhiss±m²”ti uparip±s±datale susa½vuta½ gabbha½ pavisitv± sampann±rakkho hutv± vasantopi, pabbajito hutv± susa½vute pihitadv±rav±tap±ne leºe viharantopi att±na½ na rakkhatiyeva. Gih² pana sam±no yath±bala½ d±nas²l±d²ni puññ±ni karonto, pabbajito v± pana vattapaµivattapariyattimanasik±resu ussukka½ ±pajjanto att±na½ rakkhati n±ma. Eva½ t²su vayesu asakkonto aññatarasmimpi vaye paº¹itapuriso att±na½ paµijaggatiyeva. Sace hi gihibh³to paµhamavaye khi¹¹±pasutat±ya kusala½ k±tu½ na sakkoti, majjhimavaye appamattena hutv± kusala½ k±tabba½. Sace majjhimavaye puttad±ra½ posento kusala½ k±tu½ na sakkoti, pacchimavaye k±tabbameva. Evampi karontena att± paµijaggitova hoti. Eva½ akarontassa pana att± piyo n±ma na hoti, ap±yapar±yaºameva na½ karoti. Sace pana pabbajito paµhamavaye sajjh±ya½ karonto dh±rento v±cento vattapaµivatta½ karonto pam±da½ ±pajjati, majjhimavaye appamattena samaºadhammo k±tabbo. Sace paµhamavaye uggahitapariyattiy± aµµhakatha½ vinicchaya½ k±raº±k±raºañca pucchanto majjhimavaye pam±da½ ±pajjati, pacchimavaye appamattena samaºadhammo k±tabboyeva. Evampi karontena att± paµijaggitova hoti. Eva½ akarontassa pana att± piyo n±ma na hoti, pacch±nut±peneva na½ t±pet²ti.
