Athassa m±t±pitaro cintesu½– “amh±ka½ kule mah±bhogakkhandho, puttassa no hatthe µhapetv± yath±sukha½ paribhoga½ kariss±ma, aññena kammena kicca½ natth²”ti. Ta½ naccag²tav±ditamattameva sikkh±pesu½. Atha tasmi½ nagare dhutt± cintesu½– “sac±ya½ seµµhiputto sur±soº¹o bhavissati, amh±ka½ ph±suka½ bhavissati, uggaºh±pema na½ sur±soº¹abh±van”ti. Te sura½ ±d±ya khajjakama½se ceva loºasakkhar± ca dussante bandhitv± m³lakande gahetv± tassa r±jakulato ±gacchantassa magga½ olokayam±n± nis²ditv± ta½ ±gacchanta½ disv± sura½ pivitv± loºasakkhara½ mukhe khipitv± m³lakanda½ ¹a½sitv± “vassasata½ j²va s±mi, seµµhiputta, ta½ niss±ya maya½ kh±danapivanasamatth± bhaveyy±m±”ti ±ha½su. So tesa½ vacana½ sutv± pacchato ±gacchanta½ c³¼³paµµh±ka½ pucchi– “ki½ ete pivant²”ti. Eka½ p±naka½, s±m²ti. Man±paj±tika½ etanti. S±mi, imasmi½ j²valoke imin± sadisa½ p±tabbayuttaka½ n±ma natth²ti. Atha na½ ekadivasa½ ±sanas±l±ya dv±re µhatv± daharas±maºerehi diyyam±na½ ucchiµµhakabhojana½ paµiggaºhanta½ disv± satth± sita½ p±tv±k±si. Atha na½ ±nandatthero sitak±raºa½ pucchi. Satth± sitak±raºa½ kathento “pass±nanda, ima½ mah±dhanaseµµhiputta½ imasmi½ nagare dve-as²tikoµidhana½ khepetv± bhariya½ ±d±ya bhikkh±ya caranta½. Sace hi aya½ paµhamavaye bhoge akhepetv± kammante payojayissa, imasmi½yeva nagare aggaseµµhi abhavissa. Sace pana nikkhamitv± pabbajissa, arahatta½ p±puºissa, bhariy±pissa an±g±miphale patiµµhahissa. Sace majjhimavaye bhoge akhepetv± kammante payojayissa, dutiyaseµµhi abhavissa, nikkhamitv± pabbajanto an±g±m² abhavissa. Bhariy±pissa sakad±g±miphale patiµµhahissa. Sace pacchimavaye bhoge akhepetv± kammante payojayissa, tatiyaseµµhi abhavissa, nikkhamitv± pabbajantopi sakad±g±m² abhavissa bhariy±pissa sot±pattiphale patiµµhahissa. Id±ni panesa gihibhogatopi parih²no s±maññatopi. Parih±yitv± ca pana sukkhapallale koñcasakuºo viya j±to”ti vatv± im± g±th± abh±si–
