Passa cittakatanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto sirima½ ±rabbha kathesi.
S± kira r±jagahe abhir³p± gaºik±. Ekasmi½ pana antovasse sumanaseµµhiputtassa bhariy±ya puººakaseµµhissa dh²t±ya uttar±ya n±ma up±sik±ya aparajjhitv± ta½ pas±detuk±m± tass± gehe bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½ katabhattakicca½ satth±ra½ kham±petv± ta½ divasa½ dasabalassa bhatt±numodana½ sutv±–
“Akkodhena jine kodha½, as±dhu½ s±dhun± jine;

Eva½ sot±pattiphala½ patt± pana sirim± dasabala½ nimantetv± punadivase mah±d±na½ datv± saªghassa aµµhakabhatta½ nibaddha½ d±pesi. ¾dito paµµh±ya nibaddha½ aµµha bhikkh³ geha½ gacchanti. “Sappi½ gaºhatha, kh²ra½ gaºhath±”ti-±d²ni vatv± tesa½ patte p³reti. Ekena laddha½ tiººampi catunnampi pahoti. Devasika½ so¼asakah±paºaparibbayena piº¹ap±to d²yati. Athekadivasa½ eko bhikkhu tass± gehe aµµhakabhatta½ bhuñjitv± tiyojanamatthake eka½ vih±ra½ agam±si. Atha na½ s±ya½ therupaµµh±ne nisinna½ pucchi½su– “±vuso, kaha½ bhikkha½ gahetv± ±gatos²”ti. Sirim±ya aµµhakabhatta½ me bhuttanti. Man±pa½ katv± deti, ±vusoti. “Na sakk± tass± bhatta½ vaººetu½, ativiya paº²ta½ katv± deti, ekena laddha½ tiººampi catunnampi pahoti, tass± pana deyyadhammatopi dassanameva uttaritara½. S± hi itth² evar³p± ca evar³p± c±”ti tass± guºe vaººesi.

Atheko bhikkhu tass± guºakatha½ sutv± adassaneneva sineha½ upp±detv± “may± gantv± ta½ daµµhu½ vaµµat²”ti attano vassagga½ kathetv± ta½ bhikkhu½ µhitika½ pucchitv± “sve, ±vuso, tasmi½ gehe tva½ saªghatthero hutv± aµµhakabhatta½ labhissas²”ti sutv± taªkhaºaññeva pattac²vara½ ±d±ya pakkantopi p±tova aruºe uggate sal±kagga½ pavisitv± µhito saªghatthero hutv± tass± gehe aµµhakabhatta½ labhi. Yo pana bhikkhu hiyyo bhuñjitv± pakk±mi, tassa gatavel±yameva ass± sar²re rogo uppajji. Tasm± s± ±bharaº±ni omuñcitv± nipajji. Athass± d±siyo aµµhakabhatta½ labhitv± ±gate bhikkh³ disv± ±rocesu½. S± sahatth± patte gahetv± nis²d±petu½ v± parivisitu½ v± asakkont² d±siyo ±º±pesi– “amm± patte gahetv±, ayye, nis²d±petv± y±gu½ p±yetv± khajjaka½ datv± bhattavel±ya patte p³retv± deth±”ti. T± “s±dhu, ayye”ti bhikkh³ pavesetv± y±gu½ p±yetv± khajjaka½ datv± bhattavel±ya bhattassa patte p³retv± tass± ±rocayi½su. S± “ma½ pariggahetv± netha, ayye, vandiss±m²”ti vatv± t±hi pariggahetv± bhikkh³na½ santika½ n²t± vedham±nena sar²rena bhikkh³ vandi. So bhikkhu ta½ oloketv± cintesi– “gil±n±ya t±va evar³p± aya½ etiss± r³pasobh±, arogak±le pana sabb±bharaºapaµimaº¹it±ya imiss± k²dis² r³pasampatt²”ti. Athassa anekavassakoµisannicito kileso samud±cari, so aññ±º² hutv± bhatta½ bhuñjitu½ asakkonto pattam±d±ya vih±ra½ gantv± patta½ pidh±ya ekamante µhapetv± c²vara½ pattharitv± nipajji.
Atha na½ eko sah±yako bhikkhu y±cantopi bhojetu½ n±sakkhi. So chinnabhatto ahosi. Ta½ divasameva s±yanhasamaye sirim± k±lamak±si. R±j± satthu s±sana½ pesesi– “bhante, j²vakassa kaniµµhabhagin², sirim±, k±lamak±s²”ti. Satth± ta½ sutv± rañño s±sana½ pahiºi “sirim±ya jh±panakicca½ natthi, ±makasus±ne ta½ yath± k±kasunakh±dayo na kh±danti, tath± nipajj±petv± rakkh±peth±”ti. R±j±pi tath± ak±si. Paµip±µiy± tayo divas± atikkant±, catutthe divase sar²ra½ uddhum±yi, navahi vaºamukhehi pu¼av± pagghari½su sakalasar²ra½ bhinna½ s±libhattac±µi viya ahosi. R±j± nagare bheri½ car±pesi– “µhapetv± geharakkhake d±rake sirim±ya dassanattha½ an±gacchant±na½ aµµha kah±paº±ni daº¹o”ti. Satthu santi kañca pesesi– “buddhappamukho kira bhikkhusaªgho sirim±ya dassanattha½ ±gacchat³”ti. Satth± bhikkh³na½ ±rocesi– “sirim±ya dassanattha½ gamiss±m±”ti. Sopi daharabhikkhu catt±ro divase kassaci vacana½ aggahetv± chinnabhattova nipajji. Patte bhatta½ p³tika½ j±ta½, patte mala½ uµµhahi. Atha na½ so sah±yako bhikkhu upasaªkamitv±, “±vuso, satth± sirim±ya dassanattha½ gacchat²”ti ±ha. So tath± ch±tajjhattopi “sirim±”ti vuttapadeyeva sahas± uµµhahitv± “ki½ bhaºas²”ti ±ha. “Satth± sirima½ daµµhu½ gacchati, tvampi gamissas²”ti vutte, “±ma, gamiss±m²”ti bhatta½ cha¹¹etv± patta½ dhovitv± thavik±ya pakkhipitv± bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½ agam±si. Satth± bhikkhusaªghaparivuto ekapasse aµµh±si, bhikkhunisaªghopi r±japaris±pi up±sakaparis±pi up±sik±paris±pi ekekapasse aµµha½su
Satth± r±j±na½ pucchi– “k± es±, mah±r±jo”ti. Bhante, j²vakassa bhagin², sirim±, n±m±ti. Sirim±, es±ti. ¾ma, bhanteti. Tena hi nagare bheri½ car±pehi “sahassa½ datv± sirima½ gaºhant³”ti. R±j± tath± k±resi. Ekopi ‘han’ti v± ‘hun’ti v± vadanto n±ma n±hosi. R±j± satthu ±rocesi– “na gaºhanti, bhante”ti. Tena hi, mah±r±ja, aggha½ oh±reh²ti. R±j± “pañcasat±ni datv± gaºhant³”ti bheri½ car±petv± kañci gaºhanaka½ adisv± “a¹¹hateyy±ni sat±ni, dve sat±ni, sata½, paºº±sa½, pañcav²sati kah±paºe, dasa kah±paºe, pañca kah±paºe, eka½ kah±paºa½ a¹¹ha½, p±da½, m±saka½, k±kaºika½ datv± sirima½ gaºhant³”ti bheri½ car±pesi. Koci ta½ na icchi. “Mudh±pi gaºhant³”ti bheri½ car±pesi. ‘Han’ti v± ‘hun’ti v± vadanto n±ma n±hosi. R±j± “mudh±pi, bhante, gaºhanto n±ma natth²”ti ±ha. Satth± “passatha, bhikkhave, mah±janassa piya½ m±tug±ma½, imasmi½yeva nagare sahassa½ datv± pubbe ekadivasa½ labhi½su, id±ni mudh± gaºhantopi natthi, evar³pa½ n±ma r³pa½ khayavayappatta½, passatha, bhikkhave, ±tura½ attabh±van”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

±tura½ bahusaªkappa½, yassa natthi dhuva½ µhit²”ti.
Tattha cittakatanti katacitta½, vatth±bharaºam±l±lattak±d²hi vicittanti attho. Bimbanti d²gh±diyuttaµµh±nesu d²gh±d²hi aªgapaccaªgehi saºµhita½ attabh±va½. Aruk±yanti navanna½ vaºamukh±na½ vasena arubh³ta½ k±ya½. Samussitanti t²hi aµµhisatehi samussita½. ¾turanti sabbak±la½ iriy±path±d²hi pariharitabbat±ya niccagil±na½. Bahusaªkappanti mah±janena bahudh± saªkappita½. Yassa natthi dhuva½ µhit²ti yassa dhuvabh±vo v± µhitibh±vo v± natthi, ekantena bhedanavikiraºaviddha½sanadhammameveta½, ima½ passath±ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne catur±s²tiy± p±ºasahass±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi, sopi bhikkhu sot±pattiphale patiµµhah²ti.
