S±vatthiv±s² kireko kuµumbiko bhariy±ya k±lakat±ya pabbaji. So pabbajanto attano pariveºañca aggis±lañca bhaº¹agabbhañca k±retv± sabbampi bhaº¹agabbha½ sappimadhutel±d²hi p³retv± pabbaji, pabbajitv± ca pana attano d±se pakkos±petv± yath±rucika½ ±h±ra½ pac±petv± bhuñjati. Bahubhaº¹o ca bahuparikkh±ro ca ahosi. Ratti½ añña½ niv±sanap±rupana½ hoti, div± añña½ niv±sanap±rupana½ hoti, div± añña½ vih±rapaccante vasati. Tassekadivasa½ c²varapaccattharaº±ni sukkh±pentassa sen±sanac±rika½ ±hiº¹ant± bhikkh³ passitv± “kassim±ni, ±vuso”ti pucchitv± “mayhan”ti vutte, “±vuso, bhagavat± tic²var±ni anuññ±t±ni, tvañca pana eva½ appicchassa buddhassa s±sane pabbajitv± eva½ bahuparikkh±ro j±to”ti ta½ satthu santika½ netv±, “bhante aya½ bhikkhu atibahubhaº¹o”ti ±rocesu½. Satth± “sacca½ kira ta½ bhikkh³”ti pucchitv± “sacca½, bhante”ti vutte ±ha– “kasm± pana tva½, bhikkhu, may± appicchat±ya dhamme desite eva½ bahubhaº¹o j±to”ti. So t±vattakeneva kupito “imin± d±ni n²h±rena cariss±m²”ti p±rupana½ cha¹¹etv± parisamajjhe ekac²varo aµµh±si. Atha na½ satth± upatthambhayam±no nanu tva½ bhikkhu pubbe hirottappagavesako dakarakkhasak±lepi hirottappa½ gavesam±no dv±dasa vass±ni vih±si, kasm± id±ni eva½ garuke buddhas±sane pabbajitv± catuparisamajjhe p±rupana½ cha¹¹etv± hirottappa½ pah±ya µhitos²ti. So satthu vacana½ sutv± hirottappa½ paccupaµµh±petv± ta½ c²vara½ p±rupitv± satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Bhikkh³ tassa atthassa ±vibh±vattha½ bhagavanta½ y±ci½su. Bhagav± at²ta½ ±haritv± kathesi–
At²te kira b±r±ºasirañño aggamahesiy± kucchismi½ bodhisatto paµisandhi½ gaºhi. Tassa n±maggahaºadivase mahi½sakum±roti n±ma½ kari½su. Tassa kaniµµhabh±t± candakum±ro n±ma ahosi. Tesa½ m±tari k±lakat±ya r±j± añña½ aggamahesiµµh±ne µhapesi. S±pi putta½ vij±yi, s³riyakum±rotissa n±ma½ kari½su. Ta½ disv± r±j± tuµµho “puttassa te vara½ damm²”ti ±ha. S±pi kho, “deva, icchitak±le gaºhiss±m²”ti vatv± puttassa vayappattak±le r±j±na½ ±ha– “devena mayha½ puttassa j±tak±le varo dinno, id±ni me puttassa rajja½ deh²”ti R±j± “mama dve putt± aggikkhandh± viya jalant± vicaranti, na sakk± tassa rajja½ d±tun”ti paµikkhipitv±pi ta½ punappuna½ y±cam±nameva disv± “aya½ me putt±na½ anatthampi kareyy±”ti putte pakkos±petv±, “t±t±, aha½ s³riyakum±rassa j±tak±le vara½ ad±si½, id±nissa m±t± rajja½ y±cati, aha½ tassa na d±tuk±mo, tassa m±t± tumh±ka½ anatthampi kareyya, gacchatha tumhe, araññe vasitv± mamaccayen±gantv± rajja½ gaºhath±”ti uyyojesi. Te pitara½ vanditv± p±s±d± otarante r±jaªgaºe k²¼am±no s³riyakum±ro disv± ta½ k±raºa½ ñatv± tehi saddhi½ nikkhami. Tesa½ himavanta½ paviµµhak±le bodhisatto magg± okkamma aññatarasmi½ rukkham³le nis²ditv± s³riyakum±ra½ ±ha– “t±ta, eta½ sara½ gantv± nhatv± ca pivitv± ca amh±kampi paduminipaººehi udaka½ ±har±”ti. So pana saro vessavaººassa santik± ekena dakarakkhasena laddho hoti. Vessavaººo ca ta½ ±ha– “µhapetv± devadhammaj±nanake ye ca aññe ima½ sara½ otaranti, te kh±ditu½ labhas²”ti. Tato paµµh±ya so ta½ sara½ otiººotiººe devadhamme pucchitv± aj±nante kh±dati, s³riyakum±ropi ta½ sara½ av²ma½sitv±va otari, tena ca “devadhamme j±n±s²”ti pucchito “devadhamm± n±ma candimas³riy±”ti ±ha. Atha na½ “tva½ devadhamme na j±n±s²”ti udaka½ pavesetv± attano bhavane µhapesi. Bodhisattopi ta½ cir±yanta½ disv± candakum±ra½ pesesi. Sopi tena “devadhamme j±n±s²”ti pucchito “devadhamm± n±ma catasso dis±”ti ±ha. Dakarakkhaso tampi udaka½ pavesetv± tattheva µhapesi.
Bodhisatto tasmimpi cir±yante “antar±yena bhavitabban”ti saya½ gantv± dvinnampi otaraºapada½yeva disv± “aya½ saro rakkhasapariggahito”ti ñatv± khagga½ sannayhitv± dhanu½ gahetv± aµµh±si. Rakkhaso ta½ anotaranta½ disv± vanakammikapurisavesen±gantv± ±ha– “bho purisa, tva½ maggakilanto, kasm± ima½ sara½ otaritv± nhatv± ca pivitv± ca bhisamul±la½ kh±ditv± pupph±ni pilandhitv± na gacchas²”ti. Bodhisatto ta½ disv±va “esa so yakkho”ti ñatv± “tay± me bh±taro gahit±”ti ±ha. ¾ma, may± gahit±ti. Ki½ k±raº±ti? Aha½ ima½ sara½ otiººotiººe labh±m²ti Ki½ pana sabbeva labhas²ti? Devadhammaj±nanake µhapetv± avasese labh±m²ti. Atthi pana te devadhammehi atthoti? ¾ma, atth²ti. Aha½ kathess±m²ti. Tena hi katheh²ti. Na sakk± kiliµµhena gattena kathetunti. Yakkho bodhisatta½ nh±petv± p±n²ya½ p±yetv± alaªkaritv± alaªkatamaº¹apamajjhe pallaªka½ ±ropetv± sayamassa p±dam³le nis²di. Atha na½ bodhisatto “sakkacca½ suº±h²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
“Hiri-ottappasampann±, sukkadhammasam±hit±;
santo sappuris± loke, devadhamm±ti vuccare”ti. (J±. 1.1.6).
Yakkho ima½ dhammadesana½ sutv± pasanno bodhisatta½ ±ha– “paº¹ita, aha½ te pasanno, eka½ bh±tara½ dammi, katara½ ±nem²”ti? “Kaniµµha½ ±neh²”ti. Paº¹ita, tva½ kevala½ devadhamme j±n±siyeva, na pana tesu vattas²ti. Ki½ k±raº±ti? Yasm± jeµµha½ µhapetv± kaniµµha½ ±har±pento jeµµh±pac±yikakamma½ na karos²ti, devadhamme c±ha½ yakkha j±n±mi, tesu ca vatt±mi. Mayañhi eta½ niss±ya ima½ arañña½ paviµµh±. Etassa hi atth±ya amh±ka½ pitara½ etassa m±t± rajja½ y±ci, amh±ka½ pana pit± ta½ vara½ adatv± amh±ka½ anurakkhaºatth±ya araññe v±sa½ anuj±ni, so kum±ro anivattitv± amhehi saddhi½ ±gato. “Ta½ araññe eko yakkho kh±d²”ti vuttepi na koci saddahissati. Ten±ha½ garahabhayabh²to tamev±har±pem²ti. Yakkho bodhisattassa pas²ditv± “s±dhu paº¹ita, tvameva devadhamme j±n±si, devadhammesu ca vattas²”ti dve bh±taro ±netv± ad±si. Atha na½ bodhisatto yakkhabh±ve ±d²nava½ kathetv± pañcasu s²lesu patiµµh±pesi. So tena susa½vihit±rakkho tasmi½ araññe vasitv± pitari k±lakate yakkha½ ±d±ya b±r±ºasi½ gantv± rajja½ gahetv± candakum±rassa uparajja½, s³riyakum±rassa sen±patiµµh±na½ datv± yakkhassa ramaº²ye µh±ne ±yatana½ k±r±petv± yath± so l±bhaggappatto hoti, tath± ak±si.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi “tad± rakkhaso bahubhaº¹ikabhikkhu ahosi, s³riyakum±ro ±nando, candakum±ro s±riputto, mahi½sakum±ro pana ahamev±”ti. Eva½ satth± j±taka½ kathetv± “eva½ tva½, bhikkhu, pubbe devadhamme gavesam±no hiri-ottappasampanno vicaritv± id±ni catuparisamajjhe imin± n²h±rena µhatv± mama purato ‘appicchomh²’ti vadanto ayutta½ ak±si. Na hi s±µakapaµikkhep±dimattena samaºo n±ma hot²”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha–

Tattha n±n±sak±ti na anasak±, bhattapaµikkhepak±ti attho. Thaº¹ilas±yik±ti bh³misayan±. Rajojallanti kaddamalepan±k±rena sar²re sannihitarajo Ukkuµikappadh±nanti ukkuµikabh±vena ±raddhav²riya½. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– yo hi macco “eva½ aha½ lokanissaraºasaªkh±ta½ suddhi½ p±puºiss±m²”ti imesu naggacariy±d²su ya½ kiñci sam±d±ya vatteyya, so kevala½ micch±dassanañceva va¹¹heyya, kilamathassa ca bh±g² assa. Na hi et±ni susam±dinn±nipi aµµhavatthuk±ya kaªkh±ya avitiººabh±vena avitiººakaªkha½ macca½ sodhent²ti.
