Atha p±p±ni kamm±n²ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto ajagarapeta½ ±rabbha kathesi.
Ekasmińhi samaye mah±moggall±natthero lakkhaŗattherena saddhi½ gijjhak³µato otaranto dibbena cakkhun± pańcav²satiyojanika½ ajagarapeta½ n±ma addasa. Tassa s²sato aggij±l± uµµhahitv± pariyanta½ gacchanti, pariyantato uµµhahitv± s²sa½ gacchanti, ubhayato uµµhahitv± majjhe otaranti. Thero ta½ disv± sita½ p±tv±k±si. Lakkhaŗattherena sitak±raŗa½ puµµho “ak±lo, ±vuso, imassa pańhassa veyy±karaŗ±ya, satthu santike ma½ puccheyy±s²”ti vatv± r±jagahe piŗ¹±ya caritv± satthu santika½ gatak±le lakkhaŗattherena puµµho ±ha– “tatr±ha½, ±vuso, eka½ peta½ addasa½, tassa evar³po n±ma attabh±vo, aha½ ta½ disv± ‘na vata me evar³po attabh±vo diµµhapubbo’ti sita½ p±tv±k±sin”ti. Satth± “cakkhubh³t± vata, bhikkhave, s±vak± viharant²”ti-±d²ni (p±r±. 228; sa½. ni. 2.202) vadanto therassa katha½ patiµµh±petv± “may±pi eso, bhikkhave, peto bodhimaŗ¹eyeva diµµho, ‘ye ca pana me vacana½ na saddaheyyu½, tesa½ ta½ ahit±ya ass±’ti na kathesi½, id±ni moggall±na½ sakkhi½ labhitv± kathem²”ti vatv± bhikkh³hi tassa pubbakamma½ puµµho by±k±si–
Kassapabuddhak±le kira sumaŖgalaseµµhi n±ma suvaŗŗiµµhak±hi bh³mi½ santharitv± v²sati-usabhaµµh±ne tattakeneva dhanena vih±ra½ k±retv± t±vattakeneva vih±ramaha½ k±resi. So ekadivasa½ p±tova satthu santika½ gacchanto nagaradv±re ekiss± s±l±ya k±s±va½ sas²sa½ p±rupitv± kalalamakkhitehi p±dehi nipanna½ eka½ cora½ disv± “aya½ kalalamakkhitap±do ratti½ vicaritv± div± nipannamanusso bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Coro mukha½ vivaritv± seµµhi½ disv± “hotu, j±niss±mi te kattabban”ti ±gh±ta½ bandhitv± sattakkhattu½ khetta½ jh±pesi, sattakkhattu½ vaje gunna½ p±de chindi, sattakkhattu½ geha½ jh±pesi, so ettaken±pi kopa½ nibb±petu½ asakkonto tassa c³¼³paµµh±kena saddhi½ mittasanthava½ katv± “ki½ te seµµhino piyan”ti puµµho “gandhakuµito ańńa½ tassa piyatara½ natth²”ti sutv± “hotu, gandhakuµi½ jh±petv± kopa½ nibb±pess±m²”ti satthari piŗ¹±ya paviµµhe p±n²yaparibhojan²yaghaµe bhinditv± gandhakuµiya½ aggi½ ad±si. Seµµhi “gandhakuµi kira jh±yat²”ti sutv± ±gacchanto jh±mak±le ±gantv± gandhakuµi½ jh±ma½ olokento v±laggamattampi domanassa½ akatv± v±mab±hu½ samańjitv± dakkhiŗena hatthena mah±-apphoµana½ apphoµesi. Atha na½ sam²pe µhit± pucchi½su– “kasm±, s±mi, ettaka½ dhana½ vissajjetv± katagandhakuµiy± jh±mak±le apphoµes²”ti? So ±ha– “ettaka½ me, t±t±, aggi-±d²hi as±dh±raŗe buddhassa s±sane dhana½ nidahitu½ laddha½, ‘punapi ettaka½ dhana½ vissajjetv± satthu gandhakuµi½ k±tu½ labhiss±m²’ti tuµµham±naso apphoµesin”ti. So puna tattaka½ dhana½ vissajjetv± gandhakuµi½ k±retv± v²satisahassabhikkhupariv±rassa satthuno d±na½ ad±si. Ta½ disv± coro cintesi– “aha½ ima½ am±retv± maŖkuk±tu½ na sakkhiss±mi, hotu, m±ress±mi nan”ti niv±sanantare churika½ bandhitv± satt±ha½ vih±re vicarantopi ok±sa½ na labhi. Mah±seµµhipi satta divas±ni buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaŖghassa d±na½ datv± satth±ra½ vanditv± ±ha– “bhante, mama ekena purisena sattakkhattu½ khetta½ jh±pita½, sattakkhattu½ vaje gunna½ p±d± chinn±, sattakkhattu½ geha½ jh±pita½, id±ni gandhakuµipi teneva jh±pit± bhavissati, aha½ imasmi½ d±ne paµhama½ patti½ tassa damm²”ti.
Ta½ sutv± coro “bh±riya½ vata me kamma½ kata½, eva½ apar±dhak±rake mayi imassa kopamattampi natthi, imasmimpi d±ne mayhameva paµhama½ patti½ deti, aha½ imasmi½ dubbh±mi, evar³pa½ me purisa½ akham±pentassa devadaŗ¹opi me matthake pateyy±”ti gantv± seµµhissa p±dam³le nipajjitv± “kham±hi me, s±m²”ti vatv± “ki½ idan”ti vutte, “s±mi, eva½ ayuttaka½ kamma½ may± kata½, tassa me kham±h²”ti ±ha. Atha na½ seµµhi “tay± me idańcidańca katan”ti sabba½ pucchitv± “±ma, may± katan”ti vutte, “tva½ may± na diµµhapubbo, kasm± me kujjhitv± evamak±s²”ti pucchi. So ekadivasa½ nagar± nikkhantena tena vuttavacana½ s±retv± “imin± me k±raŗena kopo upp±dito”ti ±ha. Seµµhi attan± vutta½ saritv± “±ma, t±ta, vutta½ may± ta½ me kham±h²”ti cora½ kham±petv± “uµµhehi, t±ta, kham±mi te, gaccha, t±t±”ti ±ha. Sace me, s±mi, khamasi, saputtad±ra½ ma½ gehe d±sa½ karoh²ti. T±ta, tva½ may± ettake kathite evar³pa½ chedana½ ak±si, gehe vasantena pana saddhi½ na sakk± kińci kathetu½, na me tay± gehe vasantena kicca½ atthi, kham±mi te, gaccha, t±t±ti. Coro ta½ kamma½ katv± ±yupariyos±ne av²cimhi nibbatto d²gharatta½ tattha paccitv± vip±k±vasesena id±ni gijjhak³µe pabbate paccat²ti.
Eva½ satth± tassa pubbakamma½ kathetv±, “bhikkhave, b±l± n±ma p±p±ni kamm±ni karont± na bujjhanti, pacch± pana attan± katakammehi ¹ayham±n± attan±va attano d±vaggisadis±va hont²”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha–
136. “Atha p±p±ni kamm±ni, kara½ b±lo na bujjhati;
sehi kammehi dummedho, aggi¹a¹¹hova tappat²”ti.
Tattha atha p±p±n²ti na kevala½ b±lo kodhavasena p±p±ni karoti, karontopi pana na bujjhat²ti attho. P±pa½ karonto ca “p±pa½ karom²”ti abujjhanako n±ma natthi. “Imassa kammassa evar³po n±ma vip±ko”ti aj±nanat±ya “na bujjhat²”ti vutta½. Seh²ti so tehi attano santakehi kammehi dummedho nippańńo puggalo niraye nibbattitv± aggi¹a¹¹hova tappat²ti attho.
