Tassa kira pabbajitadivasato paµµh±ya eka½ itthir³pa½ therena saddhi½yeva vicarati. Ta½ thero na passati, mah±jano pana passati. Antog±ma½ piº¹±ya caratopissa manuss± eka½ bhikkha½ datv±, “bhante, aya½ tumh±ka½ hotu, aya½ pana tumh±ka½ sah±yik±y±”ti vatv± dutiyampi dadanti.
Ki½ tassa pubbakammanti? Kassapasamm±sambuddhak±le kira dve sah±yak± bhikkh³ ekam±tukucchito nikkhantasadis± ativiya samagg± ahesu½. D²gh±yukabuddhak±le ca anusa½vacchara½ v± anucham±sa½ v± bhikkh³ uposathatth±ya sannipatanti. Tasm± tepi “uposathagga½ gamiss±m±”ti vasanaµµh±n± nikkhami½su. Te ek± t±vati½sabhavane nibbattadevat± disv± “ime bhikkh³ ativiya samagg±, sakk± nu kho ime bhinditun”ti cintetv± attano b±lat±ya cintitasamanantarameva ±gantv± tesu ekena, “±vuso, muhutta½ ±gamehi, sar²rakiccenamhi atthiko”ti vutte s± devat± eka½ manussitthivaººa½ m±petv± therassa gacchantara½ pavisitv± nikkhamanak±le ekena hatthena kesakal±pa½, ekena niv±sana½ saºµh±payam±n± tassa piµµhito nikkhami. So ta½ na passati, tam±gamayam±no pana purato µhitabhikkhu nivattitv± olokayam±no ta½ tath± katv± nikkhamanta½ passi. S± tena diµµhabh±va½ ñatv± antaradh±yi. Id±neva te may± pacchato nikkhamam±n± taruºa-itth² ida½ n±ma karont² diµµh±, tva½ “natthi mayha½ evar³pan”ti ki½ vades²ti. So asaniy± matthake avatthaµo viya m± ma½, ±vuso, n±sehi, natthi mayha½ evar³panti. Itaro “may± s±ma½ akkh²hi diµµha½, ki½ tava saddahiss±m²”ti daº¹ako viya bhijjitv± pakk±mi, uposathaggepi “n±ha½ imin± saddhi½ uposatha½ kariss±m²”ti nis²di. Itaro “mayha½, bhante, s²le aºumattampi k±¼a½ natth²”ti bhikkh³na½ kathesi. Sopi “may± s±ma½ diµµhan”ti ±ha. Devat± ta½ tena saddhi½ uposatha½ k±tu½ anicchanta½ disv± “bh±riya½ may± kamma½ katan”ti cintetv±– “bhante, mayha½ ayyassa s²labhedo natthi, may± pana v²ma½sanavaseneta½ kata½, karotha tena saddhi½ uposathan”ti ±ha. So tass± ±k±se µhatv± kathentiy± saddahitv± uposatha½ ak±si na pana there pubbe viya muducitto ahosi. Ettaka½ devat±ya pubbakamma½.
¾yupariyos±ne pana te ther± yath±sukha½ devaloke nibbatti½su. Devat± ap²cimhi nibbattitv± eka½ buddhantara½ tattha paccitv± imasmi½ buddhupp±de s±vatthiya½ nibbattitv± vuddhimanv±ya s±sane pabbajitv± upasampada½ labhi. Tassa pabbajitadivasato paµµh±ya ta½ itthir³pa½ tatheva paññ±yi. Tenevassa koº¹adh±nattheroti n±ma½ kari½su. Ta½ tath±vicaranta½ disv± bhikkh³ an±thapiº¹ika½ ±ha½su– “mah±seµµhi, ima½ duss²la½ tava vih±r± n²hara. Imañhi niss±ya sesabhikkh³na½ ayaso uppajjissat²”ti. Ki½ pana, bhante, satth± vih±re natth²ti? Atthi up±sak±ti. Tena hi, bhante, satth±va j±nissat²ti. Bhikkh³ gantv± vis±kh±yapi tatheva kathesu½. S±pi nesa½ tatheva paµivacana½ ad±si.
Bhikkh³pi tehi asampaµicchitavacan± rañño ±rocesu½– “mah±r±ja, koº¹adh±natthero eka½ itthi½ gahetv± vicaranto sabbesa½ ayasa½ upp±desi, ta½ tumh±ka½ vijit± n²harath±”ti. “Kaha½ pana so, bhante”ti? “Vih±re, mah±r±j±”ti. “Katarasmi½ sen±sane viharat²”ti? “Asukasmi½ n±m±”ti. “Tena hi gacchatha, aha½ ta½ gaºhiss±m²”ti so s±yanhasamaye vih±ra½ gantv± ta½ sen±sana½ purisehi parikkhip±petv± therassa vasanaµµh±n±bhimukho agam±si. Thero mah±sadda½ sutv± vih±r± nikkhamitv± pamukhe aµµh±si. Tampissa itthir³pa½ piµµhipasse µhita½ r±j± addasa. Thero rañño ±gamana½ ñatv± vih±ra½ abhiruhitv± nis²di. R±j± thera½ na vandi, tampi itthi½ n±ddasa. So dv±rantarepi heµµh±mañcepi olokento adisv±va thera½ ±ha– “bhante, imasmi½ µh±ne eka½ itthi½ addasa½, kaha½ s±”ti? “Na pass±mi, mah±r±j±”ti. “Id±ni may± tumh±ka½ piµµhipasse µhit± diµµh±”ti vuttepi “aha½ na pass±mi”ccev±ha. R±j± “ki½ nu kho etan”ti cintetv±, “bhante, ito t±va nikkhamath±”ti ±ha. There nikkhamitv± pamukhe µhite puna s± therassa piµµhipasse aµµh±si. R±j± ta½ disv± puna uparitala½ abhiruhi, tassa ±gatabh±va½ ñatv± thero nis²di. Puna r±j± ta½ sabbaµµh±nesu olokentopi adisv±, “bhante, kaha½ s± itth²”ti puna thera½ pucchi. N±ha½ pass±mi mah±r±j±ti. “Ki½ kathetha, bhante, may± id±neva tumh±ka½ piµµhipasse µhit± diµµh±”ti ±ha. ¾ma, mah±r±ja, mah±janopi “me pacchato pacchato itth² vicarat²”ti vadati, aha½ pana na pass±m²ti R±j± “paµir³pakena bhavitabban”ti sallakkhetv± puna thera½, “bhante, ito t±va otarath±”ti vatv± there otaritv± pamukhe µhite puna ta½ tassa piµµhipasse µhita½ disv± uparitala½ abhiruhi. Puna n±ddasa. So puna thera½ pucchitv± tena “na pass±mi”cceva vutte “paµir³pakamevetan”ti niµµha½ gantv± thera½ ±ha– “bhante, evar³pe sa½kilese tumh±ka½ piµµhito vicarante añño koci tumh±ka½ bhikkha½ na dassati, nibaddha½ mama geha½ pavisatha, ahameva cat³hi paccayehi upaµµhahiss±m²”ti thera½ nimantetv± pakk±mi.
Bhikkh³ “passath±vuso, rañño p±pakiriya½, ‘eta½ vih±rato n²har±’ti vutte ±gantv± cat³hi paccayehi nimantetv± gato”ti ujjh±yi½su. Tampi thera½ ±ha½su– “ambho, duss²la, id±nisi r±jakoº¹o j±to”ti. Sopi pubbe bhikkh³ kiñci vattu½ asakkonto “tumhe duss²l±, tumhe koº¹±, tumhe itthi½ gahetv± vicarath±”ti ±ha. Te gantv± satthu ±rocesu½– “bhante, koº¹adh±natthero amhehi vutto amhe ‘duss²l±’ti-±d²ni vatv± akkosat²”ti. Satth± ta½ pakkos±petv± pucchi– “sacca½ kira tva½, bhikkhu, eva½ vades²”ti? “Sacca½, bhante”ti. “Ki½ k±raº±”ti? “May± saddhi½ kathitak±raº±”ti. “Tumhe, bhikkhave, imin± saddhi½ kasm± katheth±”ti. “Imassa pacchato itthi½ vicaranti½ disv±, bhante”ti. “Ime kira tay± saddhi½ itthi½ vicaranti½ disv± vadanti, tva½ kasm± kathesi ete t±va disv± kathenti. Tva½ adisv±va imehi saddhi½ kasm± kathesi, nanu pubbe taveva p±pika½ diµµhi½ niss±ya ida½ j±ta½, id±ni kasm± puna p±pika½ diµµhi½ gaºh±s²”ti. Bhikkh³ “ki½ pana, bhante, imin± pubbe katan”ti pucchi½su. Atha nesa½ satth± tassa pubbakamma½ kathetv± “bhikkhu ida½ p±pakamma½ niss±ya tva½ ima½ vippak±ra½ patto, id±ni te puna tath±r³pa½ p±pika½ diµµhi½ gahetu½ na yutta½, m± puna bhikkh³hi saddhi½ kiñci kathehi, nissaddo mukhavaµµiya½ chinnaka½sath±lasadiso hohi, eva½ karonto nibb±nappatto n±ma bhavissat²”ti vatv± anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento im± g±th± abh±si–

Tattha m±voca pharusa½ kañc²ti kañci ekapuggalampi pharusa½ m± avaca. Vutt±ti tay± pare “duss²l±”ti vutt±, tampi tatheva paµivadeyyu½. S±rambhakath±ti es± karaºuttar± yugagg±hakath± n±ma dukkh±. Paµidaº¹±ti k±yadaº¹±d²hi para½ paharantassa t±dis± paµidaº¹± ca tava matthake pateyyu½. Sace neres²ti sace att±na½ niccala½ k±tu½ sakkhissasi. Ka½so upahato yath±ti mukhavaµµiya½ chinditv± talamatta½ katv± µhapitaka½sath±la½ viya. Tañhi hatthap±dehi v± daº¹akena v± pahaµampi sadda½ na karoti, esa pattos²ti sace evar³po bhavitu½ sakkhissasi, ima½ paµipada½ p³rayam±no id±ni appattopi eso nibb±nappatto n±ma. S±rambho te na vijjat²ti eva½ sante ca pana “tva½ duss²lo, tumhe duss²l±”ti-evam±diko uttarakaraºav±c±lakkhaºo s±rambhopi te na vijjati, na bhavissatiyev±ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puºi½su, koº¹adh±nattheropi satth±r± dinna-ov±de µhatv± arahatta½ p±puºi, na cirasseva ±k±se uppatitv± paµhama½ sal±ka½ gaºh²ti.
