9. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± n±tike viharati giñjak±vasathe Atha kho ±yasm± saddho yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho ±yasmanta½ saddha½ bhagav± etadavoca–
“¾j±n²yajh±yita½ kho, saddha, jh±ya; m± kha¼uªkajh±yita½ [±j±n²yajjh±yita½ kho saddha jh±yatha, m± kha¼uªkajjh±yita½ (s². p².)]. Kathañca, kha¼uªkajh±yita½ hoti? Assakha¼uªko hi saddha, doºiy± baddho [bandho (sy±. ka.)] ‘yavasa½ yavasan’ti jh±yati. Ta½ kissa hetu? Na hi, saddha, assakha¼uªkassa doºiy± baddhassa eva½ hoti– ‘ki½ nu kho ma½ ajja assadammas±rathi k±raºa½ k±ressati, kimass±ha½ [kammass±ha½ (ka.)] paµikarom²’ti. So doºiy± baddho ‘yavasa½ yavasan’ti jh±yati. Evameva½ kho, saddha, idhekacco purisakha¼uªko araññagatopi rukkham³lagatopi suññ±g±ragatopi k±mar±gapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati k±mar±gaparetena uppannassa ca k±mar±gassa nissaraºa½ yath±bh³ta½ nappaj±n±ti. So k±mar±ga½yeva antara½ katv± jh±yati pajjh±yati nijjh±yati avajjh±yati, by±p±dapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… thinamiddhapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… uddhaccakukkuccapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… vicikicch±pariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati vicikicch±paretena, uppann±ya ca vicikicch±ya nissaraºa½ yath±bh³ta½ nappaj±n±ti. So vicikiccha½yeva antara½ katv± jh±yati pajjh±yati nijjh±yati avajjh±yati. So pathavimpi niss±ya jh±yati, ±pampi niss±ya jh±yati, tejampi niss±ya jh±yati, v±yampi niss±ya jh±yati, ±k±s±nañc±yatanampi niss±ya jh±yati, viññ±ºañc±yatanampi niss±ya jh±yati, ±kiñcaññ±yatanampi niss±ya jh±yati, nevasaññ±n±saññ±yatanampi niss±ya jh±yati, idhalokampi niss±ya jh±yati, paralokampi niss±ya jh±yati, yampida½ diµµha½ suta½ muta½ viññ±ta½ patta½ pariyesita½ anuvicarita½ manas±, tampi niss±ya jh±yati. Eva½ kho, saddha, purisakha¼uªkajh±yita½ hoti.
“Kathañca saddha ±j±n²yajh±yita½ hoti? Bhadro hi, saddha, ass±j±n²yo doºiy± baddho na ‘yavasa½ yavasan’ti jh±yati. Ta½ kissa hetu? Bhadrassa hi, saddha, ass±j±n²yassa doºiy± baddhassa eva½ hoti– ‘ki½ nu kho ma½ ajja assadammas±rathi k±raºa½ k±ressati, kimass±ha½ paµikarom²’ti. So doºiy± baddho na ‘yavasa½ yavasan’ti jh±yati. Bhadro hi, saddha, ass±j±n²yo yath± iºa½ yath± bandha½ yath± j±ni½ yath± kali½ eva½ patodassa ajjhoharaºa½ samanupassati. Evameva½ kho, saddha, bhadro puris±j±n²yo araññagatopi rukkham³lagatopi suññ±g±ragatopi na k±mar±gapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati na k±mar±gaparetena, uppannassa ca k±mar±gassa nissaraºa½ yath±bh³ta½ paj±n±ti, na by±p±dapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… na thinamiddhapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… na uddhaccakukkuccapariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati… na vicikicch±pariyuµµhitena cetas± viharati na vicikicch±paretena, uppann±ya ca vicikicch±ya nissaraºa½ yath±bh³ta½ paj±n±ti. So neva pathavi½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±pa½ niss±ya jh±yati, na teja½ niss±ya jh±yati, na v±ya½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±k±s±nañc±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na viññ±ºañc±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±kiñcaññ±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na nevasaññ±n±saññ±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na idhaloka½ niss±ya jh±yati, na paraloka½ niss±ya jh±yati, yampida½ diµµha½ suta½ muta½ viññ±ta½ patta½ pariyesita½ anuvicarita½ manas±, tampi niss±ya na jh±yati; jh±yati ca pana. Eva½ jh±yiñca pana, saddha, bhadra½ puris±j±n²ya½ sa-ind± dev± sabrahmak± sapaj±patik± ±rak±va namassanti–
“Namo te puris±jañña, namo te purisuttama;
yassa te n±bhij±n±ma, yampi niss±ya jh±yas²”ti.
Eva½ vutte ±yasm± saddho bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “katha½ jh±y² pana, bhante, bhadro puris±j±n²yo [puris±j±n²yo jh±yati, so (s². sy±. p².), puris±j±n²yo, so (ka.)] neva pathavi½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±pa½ niss±ya jh±yati, na teja½ niss±ya jh±yati, na v±ya½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±k±s±nañc±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na viññ±ºañc±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na ±kiñcaññ±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na nevasaññ±n±saññ±yatana½ niss±ya jh±yati, na idhaloka½ niss±ya jh±yati na paraloka½ niss±ya jh±yati, yampida½ diµµha½ suta½ muta½ viññ±ta½ patta½ pariyesita½ anuvicarita½ manas±, tampi niss±ya na jh±yati; jh±yati ca pana? Katha½ jh±yiñca pana, bhante, bhadra½ puris±j±n²ya½ sa-ind± dev± sabrahmak± sapaj±patik± ±rak±va namassanti–
“Namo te puris±jañña, namo te purisuttama;
yassa te n±bhij±n±ma, yampi niss±ya jh±yas²”ti.
“Idha, saddha, bhadrassa puris±j±n²yassa pathaviya½ pathavisaññ± vibh³t± hoti, ±pasmi½ ±posaññ± vibh³t± hoti, tejasmi½ tejosaññ± vibh³t± hoti, v±yasmi½ v±yosaññ± vibh³t± hoti, ±k±s±nañc±yatane ±k±s±nañc±yatanasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, viññ±ºañc±yatane viññ±ºañc±yatanasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, ±kiñcaññ±yatane ±kiñcaññ±yatanasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, nevasaññ±n±saññ±yatane nevasaññ±n±saññ±yatanasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, idhaloke idhalokasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, paraloke paralokasaññ± vibh³t± hoti, yampida½ diµµha½ suta½ muta½ viññ±ta½ patta½ pariyesita½ anuvicarita½ manas±, tatr±pi saññ± vibh³t± hoti. Eva½ jh±y² kho, saddha, bhadro puris±j±n²yo neva pathavi½ niss±ya jh±yati…pe… yampida½ diµµha½ suta½ muta½ viññ±ta½ patta½ pariyesita½ anuvicarita½ manas±, tampi niss±ya na jh±yati; jh±yati ca pana. Eva½ jh±yiñca pana, saddha, bhadra½ puris±j±n²ya½ sa-ind± dev± sabrahmak± sapaj±patik± ±rak±va namassanti–
“Namo te puris±jañña, namo te purisuttama;
