12. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± sakkesu viharati kapilavatthusmi½ nigrodh±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena mah±n±mo sakko gil±n± vuµµhito hoti aciravuµµhito gelańń±. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± bhikkh³ bhagavato c²varakamma½ karonti– “niµµhitac²varo bhagav± tem±saccayena c±rika½ pakkamissat²”ti.
Assosi kho mah±n±mo sakko– “sambahul± kira bhikkh³ bhagavato c²varakamma½ karonti– ‘niµµhitac²varo bhagav± tem±saccayena c±rika½ pakkamissat²”’ti. Atha kho mah±n±mo sakko yena bhagav± tenupasaŖkami; upasaŖkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho mah±n±mo sakko bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “suta½ meta½, bhante– ‘sambahul± kira bhikkh³ bhagavato c²varakamma½ karonti– niµµhitac²varo bhagav± tem±saccayena c±rika½ pakkamissat²’ti. Tesa½ no, bhante, n±n±vih±rehi viharata½ kenassa vih±rena vih±tabban”ti?
“S±dhu s±dhu, mah±n±ma! Eta½ kho, mah±n±ma, tumh±ka½ patir³pa½ kulaputt±na½ ya½ tumhe tath±gata½ upasaŖkamitv± puccheyy±tha– ‘tesa½ no, bhante, n±n±vih±rehi viharata½ kenassa vih±rena vih±tabban’ti? Saddho kho, mah±n±ma, ±r±dhako hoti, no assaddho; ±raddhav²riyo ±r±dhako hoti, no kus²to; upaµµhitassati ±r±dhako hoti, no muµµhassati; sam±hito ±r±dhako hoti no asam±hito; pańńav± ±r±dhako hoti, no duppańńo. Imesu kho tva½, mah±n±ma, pańcasu dhammesu patiµµh±ya cha dhamme uttari bh±veyy±si.

Yasmi½, mah±n±ma, samaye ariyas±vako tath±gata½ anussarati, nevassa tasmi½ samaye r±gapariyuµµhita½ citta½ hoti, na dosapariyuµµhita½ citta½ hoti, na mohapariyuµµhita½ citta½ hoti; ujugatamevassa tasmi½ samaye citta½ hoti tath±gata½ ±rabbha. Ujugatacitto kho pana, mah±n±ma, ariyas±vako labhati atthaveda½, labhati dhammaveda½, labhati dhamm³pasa½hita½ p±mojja½. Pamuditassa p²ti j±yati, p²timanassa k±yo passambhati, passaddhak±yo sukha½ vediyati, sukhino citta½ sam±dhiyati. Ima½ kho tva½, mah±n±ma, buddh±nussati½ gacchantopi bh±veyy±si, µhitopi bh±veyy±si, nisinnopi bh±veyy±si, say±nopi bh±veyy±si, kammanta½ adhiµµhahantopi bh±veyy±si, puttasamb±dhasayana½ ajjh±vasantopi bh±veyy±si.
“Puna capara½ tva½, mah±n±ma, dhamma½ anussareyy±si…pe… saŖgha½ anussareyy±si…pe… attano s²l±ni anussareyy±si…pe… attano c±ga½ anussareyy±si…pe… devat± anussareyy±si– ‘santi dev± c±tumah±r±jik±…pe… santi dev± tatuttari. Yath±r³p±ya saddh±ya samann±gat± t± devat± ito cut± tatth³papann±, mayhampi tath±r³p± saddh± sa½vijjati. Yath±r³pena s²lena… sutena… c±gena… pańń±ya samann±gat± t± devat± ito cut± tatth³papann± mayhampi tath±r³p± pańń± sa½vijjat²’ti.
