20. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Atha kho an±thapiº¹iko gahapati yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho an±thapiº¹ika½ gahapati½ bhagav± etadavoca–
“Api nu te, gahapati, kule d±na½ d²yat²”ti? “D²yati me, bhante, kule d±na½; tañca kho l³kha½ kaº±jaka½ bi¼aªgadutiyan”ti. “L³khañcepi [l³kha½ v±pi (sy±.), l³khañc±pi (ka.)], gahapati, d±na½ deti paº²ta½ v±; tañca asakkacca½ deti, acitt²katv± [acitti½ katv± (ka.), apacitti½ katv± (sy±.), acittikatv± (p².)] deti, asahatth± deti, apaviddha½ [apaviµµha½ (sy±.)] deti, an±gamanadiµµhiko deti. Yattha yattha tassa tassa d±nassa vip±ko nibbattati, na u¼±r±ya bhattabhog±ya citta½ namati, na u¼±r±ya vatthabhog±ya citta½ namati, na u¼±r±ya y±nabhog±ya citta½ namati, na u¼±resu pañcasu k±maguºesu bhog±ya citta½ namati. Yepissa te honti putt±ti v± d±r±ti v± d±s±ti v± pess±ti v± kammakar±ti v±, tepi na suss³santi na sota½ odahanti na aññ± citta½ upaµµhapenti. Ta½ kissa hetu? Evañheta½ [evañceta½ (sy±. ka.)], gahapati, hoti asakkacca½ kat±na½ kamm±na½ vip±ko”.

Aha½ tena samayena vel±mo br±hmaºo ahosi½. Aha½ ta½ d±na½ ad±si½ mah±d±na½. Tasmi½ kho pana, gahapati, d±ne na koci dakkhiºeyyo ahosi, na ta½ koci dakkhiºa½ visodheti.
