52. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± camp±ya½ viharati gaggar±ya pokkharaºiy± t²re. Atha kho sambahul± campeyyak± up±sak± yena ±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho campeyyak± up±sak± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ etadavocu½– “cirassut± no, bhante [bhante s±riputta (s².)], bhagavato sammukh± dhamm²kath±. S±dhu maya½, bhante, labheyy±ma bhagavato sammukh± dhammi½ katha½ [bhagavato santik± dhammi½ katha½ (s².), bhagavato dhammi½ katha½ (sy±.)] savan±y±”ti. “Tenah±vuso, tadahuposathe ±gaccheyy±tha, appeva n±ma labheyy±tha bhagavato sammukh± [bhagavato santike (sy±.)] dhammi½ katha½ savan±y±”ti. “Eva½, bhante”ti kho campeyyak± up±sak± ±yasmato s±riputtassa paµissutv± uµµh±y±san± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± pakkami½su.
Atha kho campeyyak± up±sak± tadahuposathe yen±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµha½su. Atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto tehi campeyyakehi up±sakehi saddhi½ yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± s±riputto bhagavanta½ etadavoca–
“Siy± nu kho, bhante, idhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ na mahapphala½ hoti na mah±nisa½sa½; siy± pana, bhante, idhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ mahapphala½ hoti mah±nisa½san”ti? “Siy±, s±riputta, idhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ na mahapphala½ hoti na mah±nisa½sa½; siy± pana, s±riputta, idhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ mahapphala½ hoti mah±nisa½san”ti. “Ko nu kho, bhante, hetu ko paccayo yena midhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ na mahapphala½ hoti na mah±nisa½sa½; ko nu kho, bhante, hetu ko paccayo yena midhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ mahapphala½ hoti mah±nisa½san”ti?
“Idha, s±riputta, ekacco s±pekho [s±pekkho (sy±.)] d±na½ deti, patibaddhacitto [patibandhacitto (ka.)] d±na½ deti, sannidhipekho d±na½ deti, ‘ima½ pecca paribhuñjiss±m²’ti d±na½ deti. So ta½ d±na½ deti samaºassa v± br±hmaºassa v± anna½ p±na½ vattha½ y±na½ m±l±gandhavilepana½ seyy±vasathapad²peyya½. Ta½ ki½ maññasi, s±riputta, dadeyya idhekacco evar³pa½ d±nan”ti? “Eva½, bhante”.
“Tatra, s±riputta, yv±ya½ s±pekho d±na½ deti patibaddhacitto d±na½ deti, sannidhipekho d±na½ deti, ‘ima½ pecca paribhuñjiss±m²’ti d±na½ deti. So ta½ d±na½ datv± k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± c±tumah±r±jik±na½ dev±na½ sahabyata½ upapajjati. So ta½ kamma½ khepetv± ta½ iddhi½ ta½ yasa½ ta½ ±dhipacca½ ±g±m² hoti ±gant± itthatta½.

Aya½ kho, s±riputta, hetu aya½ paccayo yena midhekaccassa t±disa½yeva d±na½ dinna½ na mahapphala½ hoti na mah±nisa½sa½.
