60. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± b±r±ºasiya½ viharati isipatane migad±ye. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± ther± bhikkh³ pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkant± maº¹alam±¼e sannisinn± sannipatit± abhidhammakatha½ kathenti. Tatra suda½ ±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto ther±na½ bhikkh³na½ abhidhammakatha½ kathent±na½ antarantar± katha½ op±teti. Atha kho ±yasm± mah±koµµhiko ±yasmanta½ citta½ hatthis±riputta½ etadavoca– “m±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto ther±na½ bhikkh³na½ abhidhammakatha½ kathent±na½ antarantar± katha½ op±tesi, y±va kath±pariyos±na½ ±yasm± citto ±gamet³”ti. Eva½ vutte ±yasmato cittassa hatthis±riputtassa sah±yak± bhikkh³ ±yasmanta½ mah±koµµhika½ etadavocu½– “m±yasm± mah±koµµhiko ±yasmanta½ citta½ hatthis±riputta½ apas±desi, paº¹ito ±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto. Pahoti c±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto ther±na½ bhikkh³na½ abhidhammakatha½ kathetun”ti.
“Dujj±na½ kho eta½, ±vuso, parassa cetopariy±ya½ aj±nantehi. Idh±vuso, ekacco puggalo t±vadeva soratasorato hoti, niv±taniv±to hoti, upasantupasanto hoti, y±va satth±ra½ upaniss±ya viharati aññatara½ v± garuµµh±niya½ sabrahmac±ri½. Yato ca kho so vapakassateva satth±r±, vapakassati garuµµh±niyehi sabrahmac±r²hi, so sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi bhikkhun²hi up±sakehi up±sik±hi raññ± r±jamah±mattehi titthiyehi titthiyas±vakehi. Tassa sa½saµµhassa vissatthassa p±katassa bhassamanuyuttassa viharato r±go citta½ anuddha½seti. So r±g±nuddha½sitena cittena sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati.
“Seyyath±pi, ±vuso, goºo kiµµh±do d±mena v± baddho [±r±me v± bandho (ka.)] vaje v± oruddho. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±n±ya½ goºo kiµµh±do punadeva kiµµha½ otarissat²’ti, samm± nu kho so, ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, ya½ so goºo kiµµh±do d±ma½ v± chetv± vaja½ v± bhinditv±, atha punadeva kiµµha½ otareyy±ti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo t±vadeva soratasorato hoti, niv±taniv±to hoti, upasantupasanto hoti y±va satth±ra½ upaniss±ya viharati aññatara½ v± garuµµh±niya½ sabrahmac±ri½. Seyyath±pi, ±vuso, c±tumah±pathe thullaphusitako devo vassanto [thullaphusitake deve vassante (ka.)] raja½ antaradh±peyya, cikkhalla½ p±tukareyya. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±ni amusmi½ [amukasmi½ (ka.)] c±tumah±pathe punadeva rajo p±tubhavissat²’ti, samm± nu kho so, ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, ya½ amusmi½ c±tumah±pathe manuss± v± atikkameyyu½, gopas³ v± atikkameyyu½, v±t±tapo v± snehagata½ pariy±diyeyya, atha punadeva rajo p±tubhaveyy±ti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo vivicceva k±mehi…pe… paµhama½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi paµhamassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati.

So ‘l±bhimhi dutiyassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati. Seyyath±pi 3.0442, ±vuso, g±massa v± nigamassa v± avid³re mahanta½ ta¼±ka½. Tattha thullaphusitako devo vuµµho sippisambukampi sakkharakaµhalampi antaradh±peyya. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±ni amusmi½ ta¼±ke punadeva sippisambuk± v± sakkharakaµhal± v± p±tubhavissant²’ti, samm± nu kho so, ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, ya½ amusmi½ ta¼±ke manuss± v± piveyyu½, gopas³ v± piveyyu½, v±t±tapo v± snehagata½ pariy±diyeyya, atha punadeva sippisambuk±pi sakkharakaµhal±pi p±tubhaveyyunti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo vitakkavic±r±na½ v³pasam±…pe… dutiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi dutiyassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati.
“Idha pan±vuso, ekacco puggalo p²tiy± ca vir±g±…pe… tatiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi tatiyassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati. Seyyath±pi, ±vuso, purisa½ paº²tabhojana½ bhutt±vi½ ±bhidosika½ bhojana½ nacch±deyya. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±ni amu½ purisa½ punadeva bhojana½ ch±dessat²’ti, samm± nu kho so, ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, amu½ purisa½ paº²tabhojana½ bhutt±vi½ y±vassa s± oj± k±ye µhassati t±va na añña½ bhojana½ ch±dessati. Yato ca khvassa s± oj± antaradh±yissati, atha punadeva ta½ bhojana½ ch±deyy±ti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo p²tiy± ca vir±g±…pe… tatiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi tatiyassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati.

So ‘l±bhimhi catutthassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati. Seyyath±pi, ±vuso, pabbatasaªkhepe udakarahado niv±to vigata-³miko. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±ni amusmi½ udakarahade punadeva ³mi p±tubhavissat²’ti, samm± nu kho so, ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, y± puratthim±ya dis±ya ±gaccheyya bhus± v±tavuµµhi. S± tasmi½ udakarahade ³mi½ janeyya. Y± pacchim±ya dis±ya ±gaccheyya…pe… y± uttar±ya dis±ya ±gaccheyya… y± dakkhiº±ya dis±ya ±gaccheyya bhus± v±tavuµµhi. S± tasmi½ udakarahade ³mi½ janeyy±ti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo sukhassa ca pah±n± dukkhassa ca pah±n±…pe… catuttha½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi catutthassa jh±nass±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi…pe… sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati.
“Idha, pan±vuso, ekacco puggalo sabbanimitt±na½ amanasik±r± animitta½ cetosam±dhi½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi animittassa cetosam±dhiss±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi bhikkhun²hi up±sakehi up±sik±hi raññ± r±jamah±mattehi titthiyehi titthiyas±vakehi Tassa sa½saµµhassa vissatthassa p±katassa bhassamanuyuttassa viharato r±go citta½ anuddha½seti. So r±g±nuddha½sitena cittena sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati. Seyyath±pi, ±vuso, r±j± v± r±jamah±matto v± caturaªginiy± sen±ya addh±namaggappaµipanno aññatarasmi½ vanasaº¹e ekaratti½ v±sa½ upagaccheyya. Tatra [tattha (s². p².)] hatthisaddena assasaddena rathasaddena pattisaddena bheripaºavasaªkhatiºavaninn±dasaddena c²rikasaddo [ciri¼ik±saddo (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] antaradh±yeyya [antaradh±peyya (sy±. p². ka.)]. Yo nu kho, ±vuso, eva½ vadeyya– ‘na d±ni amusmi½ vanasaº¹e punadeva c²rikasaddo p±tubhavissat²’ti, samm± nu kho so ±vuso, vadam±no vadeyy±”ti? “No hida½, ±vuso”. “Ýh±nañheta½, ±vuso, vijjati, ya½ so r±j± v± r±jamah±matto v± tamh± vanasaº¹± pakkameyya, atha punadeva c²rikasaddo p±tubhaveyy±ti. Evameva½ kho, ±vuso, idhekacco puggalo sabbanimitt±na½ amanasik±r± animitta½ cetosam±dhi½ upasampajja viharati. So ‘l±bhimhi animittassa cetosam±dhiss±’ti sa½saµµho viharati bhikkh³hi bhikkhun²hi up±sakehi up±sik±hi raññ± r±jamah±mattehi titthiyehi titthiyas±vakehi. Tassa sa½saµµhassa vissatthassa p±katassa bhassamanuyuttassa viharato r±go citta½ anuddha½seti. So r±g±nuddha½sitena cittena sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattat²”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto aparena samayena sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattati. Atha kho cittassa hatthis±riputtassa sah±yak± bhikkh³ yen±yasm± mah±koµµhiko tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ mah±koµµhika½ etadavocu½– “ki½ nu kho ±yasmat± mah±koµµhikena citto hatthis±riputto cetas± ceto paricca vidito– ‘im±sañca im±sañca vih±rasam±patt²na½ citto hatthis±riputto l±bh², atha ca pana sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattissat²’ti; ud±hu devat± etamattha½ ±rocesu½– ‘citto, bhante, hatthis±riputto im±sañca im±sañca vih±rasam±patt²na½ l±bh², atha ca pana sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattissat²”’ti? “Cetas± ceto paricca vidito me, ±vuso– ‘citto hatthis±riputto im±sañca im±sañca vih±rasam±patt²na½ l±bh², atha ca pana sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattissat²’ti. Devat±pi me etamattha½ ±rocesu½– ‘citto, bhante, hatthis±riputto im±sañca im±sañca vih±rasam±patt²na½ l±bh², atha ca pana sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattissat²”ti.
Atha kho cittassa hatthis±riputtassa sah±yak± bhikkh³ yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho te bhikkh³ bhagavanta½ etadavocu½– “citto, bhante, hatthis±riputto im±sañca im±sañca vih±rasam±patt²na½ l±bh², atha ca pana sikkha½ paccakkh±ya h²n±y±vattat²”ti. “Na, bhikkhave, citto cira½ sarissati [padissati (ka.)] nekkhammass±”ti.
Atha kho citto hatthis±riputto nacirasseva kesamassu½ oh±retv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbaji. Atha kho ±yasm± citto hatthis±riputto eko v³pakaµµho appamatto ±t±p² pahitatto viharanto nacirasseva– yassatth±ya kulaputt± sammadeva ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajanti tadanuttara½– brahmacariyapariyos±na½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja vih±si. “Kh²º± j±ti, vusita½ brahmacariya½, kata½ karaº²ya½, n±para½ itthatt±y±”ti abbhaññ±si.
