44. Atha kho ±yasm± ±nando pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena migas±l±ya up±sik±ya nivesana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Atha kho migas±l± [migas±º± (ka.) a. ni. 10.75] up±sik± yen±yasm± ±nando tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ ±nanda½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho migas±l± up±sik± ±yasmanta½ ±nanda½ etadavoca–
“Katha½ katha½ n±m±ya½, bhante ±nanda, bhagavat± dhammo desito aññeyyo, yatra hi n±ma brahmac±r² ca abrahmac±r² ca ubho samasamagatik± bhavissanti abhisampar±ya½ Pit± me, bhante, pur±ºo brahmac±r² ahosi ±r±c±r² virato methun± g±madhamm±. So k±laªkato bhagavat± by±kato sakad±g±misatto [sakad±g±mipatto (ka. sy±. p².)] tusita½ k±ya½ upapannoti. Petteyyopi [pettayyo piyo (s². p². ka.), pitu piyo (sy±. ka½.)] me, bhante, isidatto abrahmac±r² ahosi sad±rasantuµµho. Sopi k±laªkato bhagavat± by±kato sakad±g±mipatto tusita½ k±ya½ upapannoti. Katha½ katha½ n±m±ya½, bhante ±nanda, bhagavat± dhammo desito aññeyyo, yatra hi n±ma brahmac±r² ca abrahmac±r² ca ubho samasamagatik± bhavissanti abhisampar±yan”ti? “Eva½ kho paneta½, bhagini, bhagavat± by±katan”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± ±nando migas±l±ya up±sik±ya nivesane piº¹ap±ta½ gahetv± uµµh±y±san± pakk±mi. Atha kho ±yasm± ±nando pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± ±nando bhagavanta½ etadavoca–
“Idh±ha½, bhante, pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena migas±l±ya up±sik±ya nivesana½ tenupasaªkami½; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di½. Atha kho, bhante, migas±l± up±sik± yen±ha½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ma½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Eva½ vutte aha½, bhante, migas±la½ up±sika½ etadavoca½– ‘eva½ kho paneta½, bhagini, bhagavat± by±kata”n’ti.
“K± c±nanda, migas±l± up±sik± b±l± abyatt± ammak± ammakasaññ± [ambak± ambakapaññ± (s². p².), ambak± ambakasaññ± (sy±. ka½.) a. ni. 10.75 passitabba½], ke ca purisapuggalaparopariyañ±ºe? Chayime, ±nanda, puggal± santo sa½vijjam±n± lokasmi½.
“Katame cha? Idh±nanda, ekacco puggalo sorato hoti sukhasa½v±so, abhinandanti sabrahmac±r² ekattav±sena. Tassa savanenapi akata½ hoti, b±husaccenapi akata½ hoti, diµµhiy±pi appaµividdha½ hoti, s±m±yikampi vimutti½ na labhati. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± h±n±ya pareti no vises±ya, h±nag±m²yeva hoti no visesag±m².
“Idha pan±nanda, ekacco puggalo sorato hoti sukhasa½v±so, abhinandanti sabrahmac±r² ekattav±sena. Tassa savanenapi kata½ hoti, b±husaccenapi kata½ hoti, diµµhiy±pi paµividdha½ hoti, s±m±yikampi vimutti½ labhati. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± vises±ya pareti no h±n±ya, visesag±m²yeva hoti no h±nag±m².
“Tatr±nanda, pam±ºik± pamiºanti– ‘imassapi teva dhamm± aparassapi teva dhamm±, kasm± tesa½ eko h²no eko paº²to’ti! Tañhi tesa½, ±nanda, hoti d²gharatta½ ahit±ya dukkh±ya.
“Tatr±nanda yv±ya½ puggalo sorato hoti sukhasa½v±so, abhinandanti sabrahmac±r² ekattav±sena, tassa savanenapi kata½ hoti, b±husaccenapi kata½ hoti, diµµhiy±pi paµividdha½ hoti, s±m±yikampi vimutti½ labhati. Aya½ ±nanda puggalo amun± purimena puggalena abhikkantataro ca paº²tataro ca. Ta½ kissa hetu? Ima½ h±nanda, puggala½ dhammasoto nibbahati, tadantara½ ko j±neyya aññatra tath±gatena! Tasm±tih±nanda, m± puggalesu pam±ºik± ahuvattha; m± puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºhittha. Khaññati h±nanda, puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºhanto. Aha½ v±, ±nanda, puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºheyya½, yo v± panassa m±diso.
“Idha pan±nanda, ekaccassa puggalassa kodham±no adhigato [avigato (ka.)] hoti, samayena samayañcassa lobhadhamm± uppajjanti. Tassa savanenapi akata½ hoti, b±husaccenapi akata½ hoti, diµµhiy±pi appaµividdha½ hoti, s±m±yikampi vimutti½ na labhati. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± h±n±ya pareti no vises±ya, h±nag±m²yeva hoti no visesag±m².
“Idha pan±nanda, ekaccassa puggalassa kodham±no adhigato hoti, samayena samayañcassa lobhadhamm± uppajjanti. Tassa savanenapi kata½ hoti…pe… no h±nag±m².
“Tatr±nanda pam±ºik± pamiºanti…pe… yo v± panassa m±diso.
“Idha, pan±nanda, ekaccassa puggalassa kodham±no adhigato hoti, samayena samayañcassa vac²saªkh±r± uppajjanti. Tassa savanenapi akata½ hoti…pe… s±m±yikampi vimutti½ na labhati. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± h±n±ya pareti no vises±ya, h±nag±m²yeva hoti no visesag±m².
“Idha pan±nanda, ekaccassa puggalassa kodham±no adhigato hoti, samayena samayañcassa vac²saªkh±r± uppajjanti. Tassa savanenapi kata½ hoti, b±husaccenapi kata½ hoti, diµµhiy±pi paµividdha½ hoti, s±m±yikampi vimutti½ labhati. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± vises±ya pareti no h±n±ya, visesag±m²yeva hoti no h±nag±m².
“Tatr±nanda pam±ºik± pamiºanti– ‘imassapi teva dhamm±, aparassapi teva dhamm±. Kasm± tesa½ eko h²no, eko paº²to’ti? Tañhi tesa½, ±nanda, hoti d²gharatta½ ahit±ya dukkh±ya.

Aya½, ±nanda, puggalo amun± purimena puggalena abhikkantataro ca paº²tataro ca. Ta½ kissa hetu? Ima½ h±nanda, puggala½ dhammasoto nibbahati. Tadantara½ ko j±neyya aññatra tath±gatena! Tasm±tih±nanda, m± puggalesu pam±ºik± ahuvattha; m± puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºhittha. Khaññati h±nanda, puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºhanto. Aha½ v±, ±nanda, puggalesu pam±ºa½ gaºheyya½, yo v± panassa m±diso.
“K± c±nanda, migas±l± up±sik± b±l± abyatt± ammak± ammakasaññ±, ke ca purisapuggalaparopariyañ±ºe! Ime kho, ±nanda, cha puggal± santo sa½vijjam±n± lokasmi½.
“Yath±r³pena, ±nanda, s²lena pur±ºo samann±gato ahosi, tath±r³pena s²lena isidatto samann±gato abhavissa. Nayidha pur±ºo isidattassa gatimpi aññassa. Yath±r³p±ya ca, ±nanda, paññ±ya isidatto samann±gato ahosi, tath±r³p±ya paññ±ya pur±ºo samann±gato abhavissa. Nayidha isidatto pur±ºassa gatimpi aññassa. Iti kho, ±nanda, ime puggal± ubho ekaªgah²n±”ti. Dutiya½.
