42. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± kosalesu c±rika½ caram±no mahat± bhikkhusaªghena saddhi½ yena icch±naªgala½ n±ma kosal±na½ br±hmaºag±mo tadavasari. Tatra suda½ bhagav± icch±naªgale viharati icch±naªgalavanasaº¹e. Assosu½ kho icch±naªgalak± br±hmaºagahapatik±– “samaºo khalu, bho, gotamo sakyaputto sakyakul± pabbajito icch±naªgala½ anuppatto icch±naªgale viharati icch±naªgalavanasaº¹e. Ta½ kho pana bhavanta½ gotama½ eva½ kaly±ºo kittisaddo abbhuggato– ‘itipi so bhagav± araha½ samm±sambuddho vijj±caraºasampanno…pe… buddho bhagav±’ti. So ima½ loka½ sadevaka½…pe… arahata½ dassana½ hot²”ti. Atha kho icch±naªgalak± br±hmaºagahapatik± tass± rattiy± accayena pah³ta½ kh±dan²ya½ bhojan²ya½ ±d±ya yena icch±naªgalavanasaº¹o tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bahidv±rakoµµhake aµµha½su ucc±sadd± mah±sadd±.
Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± n±gito bhagavato upaµµh±ko hoti. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ n±gita½ ±mantesi “ke pana te, n±gita, ucc±sadd± mah±sadd± kevaµµ± maññe macchavilope”ti? “Ete, bhante, icch±naªgalak± br±hmaºagahapatik± pah³ta½ kh±dan²ya½ bhojan²ya½ ±d±ya bahidv±rakoµµhake µhit± bhagavanta½yeva uddissa bhikkhusaªghañc±”ti. “M±ha½, n±gita, yasena sam±gama½, m± ca may± yaso. Yo kho, n±gita, nayimassa nekkhammasukhassa pavivekasukhassa upasamasukhassa sambodhasukhassa nik±mal±bh² assa akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh², yass±ha½ nekkhammasukhassa pavivekasukhassa upasamasukhassa sambodhasukhassa nik±mal±bh² akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh², so ta½ m²¼hasukha½ middhasukha½ l±bhasakk±rasilokasukha½ s±diyeyy±”ti.
“Adhiv±setu d±ni, bhante, bhagav±; adhiv±setu, sugato; adhiv±sanak±lo d±ni, bhante, bhagavato. Yena yeneva d±ni, bhante, bhagav± gamissati, tanninn±va bhavissanti br±hmaºagahapatik± negam± ceva j±napad± ca. Seyyath±pi, bhante, thullaphusitake deve vassante yath±ninna½ udak±ni pavattanti; evameva½ kho, bhante, yena yeneva d±ni bhagav± gamissati, tanninn±va bhavissanti br±hmaºagahapatik± negam± ceva j±napad± ca. Ta½ kissa hetu? Tath± hi, bhante, bhagavato s²lapaññ±ºan”ti.
“M±ha½, n±gita, yasena sam±gama½, m± ca may± yaso. Yo kho, n±gita, nayimassa nekkhammasukhassa pavivekasukhassa upasamasukhassa sambodhasukhassa nik±mal±bh² assa akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh², yass±ha½ nekkhammasukhassa pavivekasukhassa upasamasukhassa sambodhasukhassa nik±mal±bh² akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh², so ta½ m²¼hasukha½ middhasukha½ l±bhasakk±rasilokasukha½ s±diyeyya.

“Idha pan±ha½, n±gita, bhikkhu½ pass±mi ±raññika½ araññe asam±hita½ nisinna½. Tassa mayha½, n±gita, eva½ hoti– ‘id±ni ayam±yasm± asam±hita½ v± citta½ sam±dahissati, sam±hita½ v± citta½ anurakkhissat²’ti. Ten±ha½, n±gita, tassa bhikkhuno attamano homi araññavih±rena.
“Idha pan±ha½, n±gita, bhikkhu½ pass±mi ±raññika½ araññe sam±hita½ nisinna½. Tassa mayha½, n±gita, eva½ hoti– ‘id±ni ayam±yasm± avimutta½ v± citta½ vimocessati, vimutta½ v± citta½ anurakkhissat²’ti. Ten±ha½, n±gita, tassa bhikkhuno attamano homi araññavih±rena.
“Idha pan±ha½, n±gita, bhikkhu½ pass±mi g±mantavih±ri½ l±bhi½ c²varapiº¹ap±tasen±sanagil±nappaccayabhesajjaparikkh±r±na½. So ta½ l±bhasakk±rasiloka½ nik±mayam±no riñcati paµisall±na½ riñcati araññavanapatth±ni pant±ni sen±san±ni; g±manigamar±jadh±ni½ osaritv± v±sa½ kappeti. Ten±ha½, n±gita, tassa bhikkhuno na attamano homi g±mantavih±rena.
“Idha pan±ha½, n±gita, bhikkhu½ pass±mi ±raññika½ l±bhi½ c²varapiº¹ap±tasen±sanagil±nappaccayabhesajjaparikkh±r±na½. So ta½ l±bhasakk±rasiloka½ paµipaº±metv± na riñcati paµisall±na½ na riñcati araññavanapatth±ni pant±ni sen±san±ni. Ten±ha½, n±gita, tassa bhikkhuno attamano homi araññavih±rena. Yasm±ha½, n±gita, samaye addh±namaggappaµipanno na kañci [na kiñci (s². p². ka.)] pass±mi purato v± pacchato v±, ph±su me, n±gita, tasmi½ samaye hoti antamaso ucc±rapass±vakamm±y±”ti. Dv±dasama½.
