50. Eka½ samaya½ ±yasm± n±rado p±µaliputte viharati kukkuµ±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena muº¹assa rañño bhadd± dev² k±laªkat± hoti piy± man±p±. So bhadd±ya deviy± k±laªkat±ya piy±ya man±p±ya neva nh±yati [nah±yati (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] na vilimpati na bhatta½ bhuñjati na kammanta½ payojeti– rattindiva½ [rattidiva½ (ka.)] bhadd±ya deviy± sar²re ajjhomucchito. Atha kho muº¹o r±j± piyaka½ kos±rakkha½ [sok±rakkha½ (sy±.)] ±mantesi– “tena hi, samma piyaka bhadd±ya deviy± sar²ra½ ±yas±ya teladoºiy± pakkhipitv± aññiss± ±yas±ya doºiy± paµikujjatha, yath± maya½ bhadd±ya deviy± sar²ra½ ciratara½ passeyy±m±”ti. “Eva½, dev±”ti kho piyako kos±rakkho muº¹assa rañño paµissutv± bhadd±ya deviy± sar²ra½ ±yas±ya teladoºiy± pakkhipitv± aññiss± ±yas±ya doºiy± paµikujji.
Atha kho piyakassa kos±rakkhassa etadahosi– “imassa kho muº¹assa rañño bhadd± dev² k±laªkat± piy± man±p±. So bhadd±ya deviy± k±laªkat±ya piy±ya man±p±ya neva nh±yati na vilimpati na bhatta½ bhuñjati na kammanta½ payojeti rattindiva½ bhadd±ya deviy± sar²re ajjhomucchito. Ka½ [ki½ (ka.)] nu kho muº¹o r±j± samaºa½ v± br±hmaºa½ v± payirup±seyya, yassa dhamma½ sutv± sokasalla½ pajaheyy±”ti!
Atha kho piyakassa kos±rakkhassa etadahosi– “aya½ kho ±yasm± n±rado p±µaliputte viharati kukkuµ±r±me. Ta½ kho pan±yasmanta½ n±rada½ eva½ kaly±ºo kittisaddo abbhuggato– ‘paº¹ito viyatto [vyatto (s². p².), byatto (sy±. ka½., d². ni. 2.407)] medh±v² bahussuto cittakath² kaly±ºapaµibh±no vuddho ceva [buddho ceva (ka.)] arah± ca’ [arah± c±’ti (?)]. Ya½n³na muº¹o r±j± ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ payirup±seyya, appeva n±ma muº¹o r±j± ±yasmato n±radassa dhamma½ sutv± sokasalla½ pajaheyy±”ti.
Atha kho piyako kos±rakkho yena muº¹o r±j± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± muº¹a½ r±j±na½ etadavoca– “aya½ kho, deva, ±yasm± n±rado p±µaliputte viharati kukkuµ±r±me. Ta½ kho pan±yasmanta½ n±rada½ eva½ kaly±ºo kittisaddo abbhuggato– ‘paº¹ito viyatto medh±v² bahussuto cittakath² kaly±ºapaµibh±no vuddho ceva arah± ca’ [arah± c±’ti (?)]. Yadi pana devo ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ payirup±seyya, appeva n±ma devo ±yasmato n±radassa dhamma½ sutv± sokasalla½ pajaheyy±”ti. “Tena hi, samma piyaka ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ paµivedehi. Kathañhi n±ma m±diso samaºa½ v± br±hmaºa½ v± vijite vasanta½ pubbe appaµisa½vidito upasaªkamitabba½ maññeyy±”ti “Eva½, dev±”ti kho piyako kos±rakkho muº¹assa rañño paµissutv± yen±yasm± n±rado tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho piyako kos±rakkho ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ etadavoca–
“Imassa bhante, muº¹assa rañño bhadd± dev² k±laªkat± piy± man±p±. So bhadd±ya deviy± k±laªkat±ya piy±ya man±p±ya neva nh±yati na vilimpati na bhatta½ bhuñjati na kammanta½ payojeti– rattindiva½ bhadd±ya deviy± sar²re ajjhomucchito. S±dhu, bhante, ±yasm± n±rado muº¹assa rañño tath± dhamma½ desetu yath± muº¹o r±j± ±yasmato n±radassa dhamma½ sutv± sokasalla½ pajaheyy±”ti. “Yassad±ni, piyaka, muº¹o r±j± k±la½ maññat²”ti.
Atha kho piyako kos±rakkho uµµh±y±san± ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± yena muº¹o r±j± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± muº¹a½ r±j±na½ etadavoca– “kat±vak±so kho, deva, ±yasmat± n±radena. Yassad±ni devo k±la½ maññat²”ti. “Tena hi, samma piyaka, bhadr±ni bhadr±ni y±n±ni yoj±peh²”ti. “Eva½, dev±”ti kho piyako kos±rakkho muº¹assa rañño paµissutv± bhadr±ni bhadr±ni y±n±ni yoj±petv± muº¹a½ r±j±na½ etadavoca– “yutt±ni kho te, deva, bhadr±ni bhadr±ni y±n±ni. Yassad±ni devo k±la½ maññat²”ti.
Atha kho muº¹o r±j± bhadra½ y±na½ [bhadra½ bhadra½ y±na½ (sy±. ka½. ka.), bhadda½ y±na½ (p².)] abhiruhitv± bhadrehi bhadrehi y±nehi yena kukkuµ±r±mo tena p±y±si mahacc± [mahacca (bah³su)] r±j±nubh±vena ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ dassan±ya. Y±vatik± y±nassa bh³mi y±nena gantv±, y±n± paccorohitv± pattikova ±r±ma½ p±visi. Atha kho muº¹o r±j± yena ±yasm± n±rado tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho muº¹a½ r±j±na½ ±yasm± n±rado etadavoca–
“Pañcim±ni, mah±r±ja, alabbhan²y±ni µh±n±ni samaºena v± br±hmaºena v± devena v± m±rena v± brahmun± v± kenaci v± lokasmi½. Katam±ni pañca? ‘Jar±dhamma½ m± j²r²’ti alabbhan²ya½ µh±na½ samaºena v± br±hmaºena v± devena v± m±rena v± brahmun± v± kenaci v± lokasmi½. ‘By±dhidhamma½ m± by±dh²y²’ti…pe… ‘maraºadhamma½ m± m²y²’ti… ‘khayadhamma½ m± kh²y²’ti… ‘nassanadhamma½ m± nass²’ti alabbhan²ya½ µh±na½ samaºena v± br±hmaºena v± devena v± m±rena v± brahmun± v± kenaci v± lokasmi½.
“Assutavato mah±r±ja, puthujjanassa jar±dhamma½ j²rati. So jar±dhamme jiººe na iti paµisañcikkhati– ‘na kho mayhevekassa jar±dhamma½ j²rati, atha kho y±vat± satt±na½ ±gati gati cuti upapatti sabbesa½ satt±na½ jar±dhamma½ j²rati. Ahañceva kho pana jar±dhamme jiººe soceyya½ kilameyya½ parideveyya½, uratt±¼i½ kandeyya½, sammoha½ ±pajjeyya½, bhattampi me nacch±deyya, k±yepi dubbaººiya½ okkameyya, kammant±pi nappavatteyyu½, amitt±pi attaman± assu, mitt±pi dumman± ass³’ti. So jar±dhamme jiººe socati kilamati paridevati, uratt±¼i½ kandati, sammoha½ ±pajjati. Aya½ vuccati, mah±r±ja– ‘assutav± puthujjano viddho savisena sokasallena att±na½yeva parit±peti”’.
“Puna capara½, mah±r±ja, assutavato puthujjanassa by±dhidhamma½ by±dh²yati…pe… maraºadhamma½ m²yati… khayadhamma½ kh²yati… nassanadhamma½ nassati. So nassanadhamme naµµhe na iti paµisañcikkhati– ‘na kho mayhevekassa nassanadhamma½ nassati, atha kho y±vat± satt±na½ ±gati gati cuti upapatti sabbesa½ satt±na½ nassanadhamma½ nassati. Ahañceva kho pana nassanadhamme naµµhe soceyya½ kilameyya½ parideveyya½, uratt±¼i½ kandeyya½, sammoha½ ±pajjeyya½, bhattampi me nacch±deyya, k±yepi dubbaººiya½ okkameyya, kammant±pi nappavatteyyu½, amitt±pi attaman± assu, mitt±pi dumman± ass³’ti. So nassanadhamme naµµhe socati kilamati paridevati, uratt±¼i½ kandati, sammoha½ ±pajjati. Aya½ vuccati, mah±r±ja– ‘assutav± puthujjano viddho savisena sokasallena att±na½yeva parit±peti”’.
“Sutavato ca kho, mah±r±ja, ariyas±vakassa jar±dhamma½ j²rati. So jar±dhamme jiººe iti paµisañcikkhati– ‘na kho mayhevekassa jar±dhamma½ j²rati, atha kho y±vat± satt±na½ ±gati gati cuti upapatti sabbesa½ satt±na½ jar±dhamma½ j²rati. Ahañceva kho pana jar±dhamme jiººe soceyya½ kilameyya½ parideveyya½, uratt±¼i½ kandeyya½, sammoha½ ±pajjeyya½, bhattampi me nacch±deyya, k±yepi dubbaººiya½ okkameyya, kammant±pi nappavatteyyu½, amitt±pi attaman± assu, mitt±pi dumman± ass³’ti. Aya½ vuccati, mah±r±ja– ‘sutav± ariyas±vako abbuhi savisa½ sokasalla½, yena viddho assutav± puthujjano att±na½yeva parit±peti. Asoko visallo ariyas±vako att±na½yeva parinibb±peti ’.
“Im±ni kho, mah±r±ja, pañca alabbhan²y±ni µh±n±ni samaºena v± br±hmaºena v± devena v± m±rena v± brahmun± v± kenaci v± lokasmin”ti.
“Na socan±ya paridevan±ya,
atthodha labbh± api appakopi;
socantamena½ dukhita½ viditv±,
paccatthik± attaman± bhavanti.
“Yato ca kho paº¹ito ±pad±su,
na vedhat² atthavinicchayaññ³;
paccatthik±ssa dukhit± bhavanti,
disv± mukha½ avik±ra½ pur±ºa½.
“Jappena mantena subh±sitena,
anuppad±nena paveºiy± v±;
yath± yath± yattha labhetha attha½,
tath± tath± tattha parakkameyya.
“Sace paj±neyya alabbhaneyyo,
may±va aññena v± esa attho;
asocam±no adhiv±sayeyya,
kamma½ da¼ha½ kinti karomi d±n²”ti [j±. 1 j±takepi].
Eva½ vutte muº¹o r±j± ±yasmanta½ n±rada½ etadavoca– “ko n±mo [ko nu kho (s². p².)] aya½, bhante, dhammapariy±yo”ti? “Sokasallaharaºo n±ma aya½, mah±r±ja, dhammapariy±yo”ti. “Taggha, bhante, sokasallaharaºo [taggha bhante sokasallaharaºo, taggha bhante sokasallaharaºo (s². sy±. ka½. p².)]! Imañhi me, bhante, dhammapariy±ya½ sutv± sokasalla½ pah²nan”ti.
Atha kho muº¹o r±j± piyaka½ kos±rakkha½ ±mantesi– “tena hi, samma piyaka, bhadd±ya deviy± sar²ra½ jh±petha; th³pañcass± karotha. Ajjatagge d±ni maya½ nh±yiss±ma ceva vilimpiss±ma bhattañca bhuñjiss±ma kammante ca payojess±m±”ti. Dasama½.
