192. Atha kho doºo br±hmaºo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavat± saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho doºo br±hmaºo bhagavanta½ etadavoca–
“Suta½ meta½, bho gotama– ‘na samaºo gotamo br±hmaºe jiººe vu¹¹he mahallake addhagate vayo-anuppatte abhiv±deti v± paccuµµheti v± ±sanena v± nimantet²’ti. Tayida½, bho gotama, tatheva. Na hi bhava½ gotamo br±hmaºe jiººe vu¹¹he mahallake addhagate vayo-anuppatte abhiv±deti v± paccuµµheti v± ±sanena v± nimanteti. Tayida½, bho gotama, na sampannamev±”ti. “Tvampi no, doºa, br±hmaºo paµij±n±s²”ti? “Yañhi ta½, bho gotama, samm± vadam±no vadeyya– ‘br±hmaºo ubhato suj±to– m±tito ca pitito ca, sa½suddhagahaºiko, y±va sattam± pit±mahayug± akkhito anupakkuµµho j±tiv±dena, ajjh±yako mantadharo, tiººa½ ved±na½ p±rag³ sanighaº¹ukeµubh±na½ s±kkharappabhed±na½ itih±sapañcam±na½, padako veyy±karaºo lok±yatamah±purisalakkhaºesu anavayo’ti, mameva ta½, bho gotama, samm± vadam±no vadeyya. “Ye kho, te doºa, br±hmaº±na½ pubbak± isayo mant±na½ katt±ro mant±na½ pavatt±ro, yesamida½ etarahi br±hmaº± por±ºa½ mantapada½ g²ta½ pavutta½ samihita½ tadanug±yanti tadanubh±santi bh±sitamanubh±santi sajjh±yitamanusajjh±yanti v±citamanuv±centi, seyyathida½– aµµhako, v±mako, v±madevo, vess±mitto, yamadaggi [yamataggi (s².) d². ni. 1.284, 526, 536; ma. ni. 2.427; mah±va. 300; a. ni. 5.192 passitabba½], aªg²raso, bh±radv±jo, v±seµµho, kassapo, bhagu; ty±ssu’me pañca br±hmaºe paññ±penti– brahmasama½, devasama½, mariy±da½, sambhinnamariy±da½, br±hmaºacaº¹±la½yeva pañcama½. “Na kho maya½, bho gotama, pañca br±hmaºe j±n±ma, atha kho maya½ br±hmaº±tveva j±n±ma. S±dhu me bhava½ gotamo tath± dhamma½ desetu yath± aha½ ime pañca br±hmaºe j±neyyan”ti. “Tena hi, br±hmaºa, suºohi, s±dhuka½ manasi karohi; bh±siss±m²”ti. “Eva½ bho”ti kho doºo br±hmaºo bhagavato paccassosi. “Kathañca, doºa, br±hmaºo brahmasamo hoti? Idha, doºa, br±hmaºo ubhato suj±to hoti– m±tito ca pitito ca, sa½suddhagahaºiko, y±va sattam± pit±mahayug± akkhitto anupakkuµµho j±tiv±dena. So aµµhacatt±l²savass±ni kom±rabrahmacariya½ [kodh±ra½ brahmacariya½ (sy±. ka.)] carati mante adh²yam±no. Aµµhacatt±l²savass±ni kom±rabrahmacariya½ caritv± mante adh²yitv± ±cariyassa ±cariyadhana½ pariyesati dhammeneva, no adhammena.
“Tattha ca, doºa, ko dhammo? Neva kasiy± na vaºijj±ya na gorakkhena na issatthena [na issattena (ka.)] na r±japorisena na sippaññatarena, kevala½ bhikkh±cariy±ya kap±la½ anatimaññam±no. So ±cariyassa ±cariyadhana½ niyy±detv± [n²yy±detv± (s².), n²y±detv± (p².), niyy±tetv± (katthaci)] kesamassu½ oh±retv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajati. So eva½ pabbajito sam±no mett±sahagatena cetas± eka½ disa½ pharitv± viharati, tath± dutiya½ tath± tatiya½ tath± catuttha½ [catutthi½ (s².)], iti uddhamadho tiriya½ sabbadhi sabbattat±ya sabb±vanta½ loka½ mett±sahagatena cetas± vipulena mahaggatena appam±ºena averena aby±pajjena [aby±pajjhena (ka.) aby±bajjhena (?)] Pharitv± viharati. So br±hmaºi½yeva gacchati, na khattiyi½ na vessi½ na suddi½ na caº¹±li½ na nes±di½ na veni½ [na veºi½ (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] na rathak±ri½ na pukkusi½ gacchati, na gabbhini½ gacchati, na p±yam±na½ gacchati, na anutuni½ gacchati. So evam±ha– ‘seyyath±pi, bho, aggi sucimpi ¹ahati asucimpi ¹ahati, na ca tena aggi upalippati [upalimpati (ka.)]; evameva½ kho, bho, sabbakammehi cepi br±hmaºo j²vika½ kappeti, na ca tena br±hmaºo upalippati’. ‘Sabbakammehi j²vika½ kappet²’ti kho, doºa tasm± br±hmaºo br±hmaºacaº¹±loti vuccati. Eva½ kho, doºa, br±hmaºo br±hmaºacaº¹±lo hoti.
“Ye kho te, doºa, br±hmaº±na½ pubbak± isayo mant±na½ katt±ro mant±na½ pavatt±ro yesamida½ etarahi br±hmaº± por±ºa½ mantapada½ g²ta½ pavutta½ sam²hita½ tadanug±yanti tadanubh±santi bh±sitamanubh±santi sajjh±yitamanusajjh±yanti v±cimanuv±centi, seyyathida½– aµµhako, v±mako, v±madevo, vess±mitto, yamadaggi, aªg²raso, bh±radv±jo, v±seµµho kassapo, bhagu; ty±ssume pañca br±hmaºe paññ±penti– brahmasama½, devasama½, mariy±da½, sambhinnamariy±da½, br±hmaºacaº¹±la½yeva pañcama½.
