22. “Ekamid±ha½ bhikkhave, samaya½ uruvel±ya½ vihar±mi najj± nerañjar±ya t²re ajap±lanigrodhe paµham±bhisambuddho. Atha kho, bhikkhave, sambahul± br±hmaº± jiºº± vuddh± mahallak± addhagat± vayo-anuppatt± yen±ha½ tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± may± saddhi½ sammodi½su. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho, bhikkhave, te br±hmaº± ma½ etadavocu½– ‘suta½ neta½ [meta½ (s². sy±. ka½. ka.)], bho gotama– na samaºo gotamo br±hmaºe jiººe vuddhe mahallake addhagate vayo-anuppatte abhiv±deti v± paccuµµheti v± ±sanena v± nimantet²ti. “Tassa mayha½, bhikkhave, etadahosi– ‘nayime [na vata me (s². p².), na cayime (sy±. ka½.), na vatime (?)] ¾yasmanto j±nanti thera½ v± therakaraºe v± dhamme’ti. Vuddho cepi, bhikkhave, hoti ±s²tiko v± n±vutiko v± vassasatiko v± j±tiy±. So ca hoti ak±lav±d² abh³tav±d² anatthav±d² adhammav±d² avinayav±d², anidh±navati½ v±ca½ bh±sit± ak±lena anapadesa½ apariyantavati½ anatthasa½hita½. Atha kho so ‘b±lo thero’tveva [teva (s². p².)] saªkha½ gacchati.
“Daharo cepi, bhikkhave, hoti yuv± susuk±¼akeso bhadrena yobbanena samann±gato paµhamena vayas± So ca hoti k±lav±d² bh³tav±d² atthav±d² dhammav±d² vinayav±d² nidh±navati½ v±ca½ bh±sit± k±lena s±padesa½ pariyantavati½ atthasa½hita½. Atha kho so ‘paº¹ito thero’tveva saªkha½ gacchati.
“Catt±rome bhikkhave, therakaraº± dhamm±. Katame catt±ro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu s²lav± hoti, p±timokkhasa½varasa½vuto viharati ±c±ragocarasampanno aºumattesu vajjesu bhayadass±v², sam±d±ya sikkhati sikkh±padesu, bahussuto hoti sutadharo sutasannicayo, ye te dhamm± ±dikaly±º± majjhekaly±º± pariyos±nakaly±º± s±ttha½ sabyañjana½ [s±tth± sabyañjan± (s². p².)] kevalaparipuººa½ [kevalaparipuºº± (s².)] parisuddha½ brahmacariya½ abhivadanti, tath±r³p±ssa dhamm± bahussut± honti dh±t± [dhat± (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] vacas± paricit± manas±nupekkhit±, diµµhiy± suppaµividdh±, catunna½ jh±n±na½ ±bhicetasik±na½ diµµhadhammasukhavih±r±na½ nik±mal±bh² hoti akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh², ±sav±na½ khay± an±sava½ cetovimutti½ paññ±vimutti½ diµµheva dhamme saya½ abhiññ± sacchikatv± upasampajja viharati. Ime kho, bhikkhave, catt±ro therakaraº± dhamm±”ti.
“Yo uddhatena cittena, samphañca bahu bh±sati;
asam±hitasaªkappo, asaddhammarato mago;
±r± so th±vareyyamh±, p±padiµµhi an±daro.
“Yo ca s²lena sampanno, sutav± paµibh±nav±;
saññato dh²ro dhammesu [saññato dh²radhammesu (s².), sa½yutto thiradhammesu (sy±. ka½.)], paññ±yattha½ vipassati.
“P±rag³ sabbadhamm±na½, akhilo paµibh±nav±;
pah²naj±timaraºo, brahmacariyassa keval².
“Tamaha½ vad±mi theroti, yassa no santi ±sav±;
±sav±na½ khay± bhikkhu, so theroti pavuccat²”ti. Dutiya½.
