Keval± es±, bhikkhave, asappurisabh³mi yadida½ akataññut± akatavedit±. Sappuriso ca kho, bhikkhave, kataññ³ hoti kataved². Sabbhi heta½, bhikkhave, upaññ±ta½ yadida½ kataññut± katavedit±. 35. Atha kho aññataro br±hmaºo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavat± saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½…pe… ekamanta½ nisinno kho so br±hmaºo bhagavanta½ etadavoca “ki½v±d² bhava½ gotamo kimakkh±y²”ti? “Kiriyav±d² c±ha½, br±hmaºa, akiriyav±d² c±”ti. “Yath±katha½ pana bhava½ gotamo kiriyav±d² ca akiriyav±d² c±”ti?
“Akiriya½ kho aha½, br±hmaºa, vad±mi k±yaduccaritassa vac²duccaritassa manoduccaritassa, anekavihit±na½ p±pak±na½ akusal±na½ dhamm±na½ akiriya½ vad±mi. Kiriyañca kho aha½, br±hmaºa, vad±mi k±yasucaritassa vac²sucaritassa manosucaritassa, anekavihit±na½ kusal±na½ dhamm±na½ kiriya½ vad±mi. Eva½ kho aha½, br±hmaºa, kiriyav±d² ca akiriyav±d² c±”ti.
“Abhikkanta½, bho gotama…pe… up±saka½ ma½ bhava½ gotamo dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupeta½ saraºa½ gatan”ti.
36. Atha kho an±thapiº¹iko gahapati yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho an±thapiº¹iko gahapati bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “kati nu kho, bhante, loke dakkhiºeyy±, kattha ca d±na½ d±tabban”ti? “Dve kho, gahapati, loke dakkhiºeyy±– sekho ca asekho ca. Ime kho, gahapati, dve loke dakkhiºeyy±, ettha ca d±na½ d±tabban”ti.
Idamavoca bhagav±. Ida½ vatv±na [vatv± (s². p².) evam²disesu µh±nesu] sugato ath±para½ etadavoca satth±–
“Sekho asekho ca imasmi½ loke,
±huneyy± yajam±n±na½ honti;
te ujjubh³t± [ujubh³t± (sy±. ka½. ka.)] k±yena, v±c±ya uda cetas±;
khetta½ ta½ yajam±n±na½, ettha dinna½ mahapphalan”ti.
37. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± s±riputto s±vatthiya½ viharati pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de. Tatra kho ±yasm± s±riputto bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “±vuso bhikkhave”ti. “¾vuso”ti kho te bhikkh³ ±yasmato s±riputtassa paccassosu½. ¾yasm± s±riputto etadavoca– “ajjhattasa½yojanañca, ±vuso, puggala½ desess±mi bahiddh±sa½yojanañca. Ta½ suº±tha, s±dhuka½ manasi karotha; bh±siss±m²”ti. “Evam±vuso”ti kho te bhikkh³ ±yasmato s±riputtassa paccassosu½. ¾yasm± s±riputto etadavoca–
“Katamo c±vuso, ajjhattasa½yojano puggalo? Idh±vuso, bhikkhu s²lav± hoti, p±timokkhasa½varasa½vuto viharati ±c±ragocarasampanno aºumattesu vajjesu bhayadass±v², sam±d±ya sikkhati sikkh±padesu. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± aññatara½ devanik±ya½ upapajjati. So tato cuto ±g±m² hoti, ±gant± itthatta½. Aya½ vuccati, ±vuso, ajjhattasa½yojano puggalo ±g±m² hoti, ±gant± itthatta½.

“Puna capara½, ±vuso, bhikkhu s²lav± hoti…pe… sam±d±ya sikkhati sikkh±padesu. So k±m±na½yeva nibbid±ya vir±g±ya nirodh±ya paµipanno hoti. So bhav±na½yeva nibbid±ya vir±g±ya nirodh±ya paµipanno hoti. So taºh±kkhay±ya paµipanno hoti. So lobhakkhay±ya paµipanno hoti. So k±yassa bhed± para½ maraº± aññatara½ devanik±ya½ upapajjati. So tato cuto an±g±m² hoti, an±gant± itthatta½. Aya½ vuccat±vuso, bahiddh±sa½yojano puggalo an±g±m² hoti, an±gant± itthattan”ti.
Atha kho sambahul± samacitt± devat± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµha½su. Ekamanta½ µhit± kho t± devat± bhagavanta½ etadavocu½ “eso, bhante, ±yasm± s±riputto pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de bhikkh³na½ ajjhattasa½yojanañca puggala½ deseti bahiddh±sa½yojanañca. Haµµh±, bhante, paris±. S±dhu, bhante, bhagav± yen±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkamatu anukampa½ up±d±y±”ti. Adhiv±sesi bhagav± tuºh²bh±vena. Atha kho bhagav±– seyyath±pi n±ma balav± puriso samiñjita½ [sammiñjita½ (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] v± b±ha½ pas±reyya, pas±rita½ v± b±ha½ samiñjeyya evameva½– jetavane antarahito pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de ±yasmato s±riputtassa sammukhe p±turahosi. Nis²di bhagav± paññatte ±sane. ¾yasm±pi kho s±riputto bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ bhagav± etadavoca–
“Idha, s±riputta, sambahul± samacitt± devat± yen±ha½ tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± ma½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµha½su. Ekamanta½ µhit± kho, s±riputta, t± devat± ma½ etadavocu½– ‘eso, bhante, ±yasm± s±riputto pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de bhikkh³na½ ajjhattasa½yojanañca puggala½ deseti bahiddh±sa½yojanañca. Haµµh±, bhante, paris±. S±dhu, bhante, bhagav± yena ±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkamatu anukampa½ up±d±y±’ti. Santa½yeva upah±ra½ upahariss±ma sabrahmac±r²s³’ti. ‘Evañhi vo, s±riputta, sikkhitabba½. Anassu½ kho, s±riputta, aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± ye ima½ dhammapariy±ya½ n±ssosu”n’ti.
38. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ ±yasm± mah±kacc±no varaº±ya½ viharati bhaddas±rit²re [kaddamadahat²re (s². sy±. ka½. p².)]. Atha kho ±r±madaº¹o br±hmaºo yen±yasm± mah±kacc±no tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmat± mah±kacc±nena saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±r±madaº¹o br±hmaºo ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ etadavoca– “ko nu kho, bho kacc±na, hetu ko paccayo yena khattiy±pi khattiyehi vivadanti, br±hmaº±pi br±hmaºehi vivadanti, gahapatik±pi gahapatikehi vivadant²”ti? “K±mar±g±bhinivesavinibandha [k±mar±gavinivesavinibaddha (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] paligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±nahetu kho, br±hmaºa, khattiy±pi khattiyehi vivadanti, br±hmaº±pi br±hmaºehi vivadanti, gahapatik±pi gahapatikehi vivadant²”ti.
“Ko pana, bho kacc±na, hetu ko paccayo yena samaº±pi samaºehi vivadant²”ti? “Diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±nahetu kho, br±hmaºa, samaº±pi samaºehi vivadant²”ti.
“Atthi pana, bho kacc±na, koci lokasmi½ yo imañceva k±mar±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto, imañca diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto”ti? “Atthi, br±hmaºa, lokasmi½ yo imañceva k±mar±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto, imañca diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto”ti.
“Ko pana so, bho kacc±na, lokasmi½ yo imañceva k±gar±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto, imañca diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto”ti? “Atthi, br±hmaºa, puratthimesu janapadesu s±vatth² n±ma nagara½. Tattha so bhagav± etarahi viharati araha½ samm±sambuddho. So hi, br±hmaºa, bhagav± imañceva k±mar±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto imañca diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto”ti.
Eva½ vutte ±r±madaº¹o br±hmaºo uµµh±y±san± eka½sa½ uttar±saªga½ karitv± dakkhiºa½ j±ºumaº¹ala½ pathaviya½ nihantv± yena bhagav± tenañjali½ paº±metv± tikkhattu½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Namo tassa bhagavato arahato samm±sambuddhassa, namo tassa bhagavato arahato samm±sambuddhassa, namo tassa bhagavato arahato samm±sambuddhassa. Yo hi so bhagav± imañceva k±mar±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto, imañca diµµhir±g±bhinivesavinibandhapaligedhapariyuµµh±najjhos±na½ samatikkanto”ti.
“Abhikkanta½, bho kacc±na, abhikkanta½, bho kacc±na! Seyyath±pi, bho kacc±na, nikkujjita½ v± ukkujjeyya, paµicchanna½ v± vivareyya, m³¼hassa v± magga½ ±cikkheyya, andhak±re v± telapajjota½ dh±reyya– ‘cakkhumanto r³p±ni dakkhant²’ti, evameva½ bhot± kacc±nena anekapariy±yena dhammo pak±sito. Es±ha½, bho kacc±na, ta½ bhavanta½ gotama½ saraºa½ gacch±mi dhammañca bhikkhusaªghañca. Up±saka½ ma½ bhava½ kacc±no dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupeta½ saraºa½ gatan”ti.
39. Eka½ samaya½ ±yasm± mah±kacc±no madhur±ya½ viharati gund±vane. Atha kho kandar±yano [kaº¹ar±yano (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] br±hmaºo yen±yasm± mah±kacc±no tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmat± mah±kacc±nena saddhi½…pe… ekamanta½ nisinno kho kandar±yano br±hmaºo ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ etadavoca– “suta½ meta½, bho kacc±na, ‘na samaºo kacc±no br±hmaºe jiººe vuddhe mahallake addhagate vayo-anuppatte abhiv±deti v± paccuµµheti v± ±sanena v± nimantet²’ti. Tayida½, bho kacc±na, tatheva? Na hi bhava½ kacc±no br±hmaºe jiººe vuddhe mahallake addhagate vayo-anuppatte abhiv±deti v± paccuµµheti v± ±sanena v± nimanteti. Tayida½, bho kacc±na, na sampannamev±”ti.
“Atthi, br±hmaºa, tena bhagavat± j±nat± passat± arahat± samm±sambuddhena vuddhabh³mi ca akkh±t± daharabh³mi ca. Vuddho cepi, br±hmaºa, hoti ±s²tiko v± n±vutiko v± vassasatiko v± j±tiy±, so ca k±me paribhuñjati k±mamajjh±vasati k±mapari¼±hena pari¹ayhati k±mavitakkehi khajjati k±mapariyesan±ya ussuko. Atha kho so b±lo na therotveva saªkhya½ gacchati. Daharo cepi, br±hmaºa, hoti yuv± susuk±¼akeso bhadrena yobbanena samann±gato paµhamena vayas± So ca na k±me paribhuñjati na k±mamajjh±vasati, na k±mapari¼±hena pari¹ayhati, na k±mavitakkehi khajjati, na k±mapariyesan±ya ussuko. Atha kho so paº¹ito therotveva saªkhya½ gacchat²”ti.
Eva½ vutte kandar±yano br±hmaºo uµµh±y±san± eka½sa½ uttar±saªga½ karitv± dahar±na½ sata½ [suda½ (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] bhikkh³na½ p±de siras± vandati– “vuddh± bhavanto, vuddhabh³miya½ µhit±. Dahar± maya½, daharabh³miya½ µhit±”ti.
“Abhikkanta½, bho kacc±na…pe… up±saka½ ma½ bhava½ kacc±no dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupeta½ saraºa½ gatan”ti.
40. “Yasmi½, bhikkhave, samaye cor± balavanto honti, r±j±no tasmi½ samaye dubbal± honti. Tasmi½, bhikkhave, samaye rañño na ph±su hoti atiy±tu½ v± niyy±tu½ v± paccantime v± janapade anusaññ±tu½. Br±hmaºagahapatik±nampi tasmi½ samaye na ph±su hoti atiy±tu½ v± niyy±tu½ v± b±hir±ni v± kammant±ni paµivekkhitu½. Evameva½ kho, bhikkhave, yasmi½ samaye p±pabhikkh³ balavanto honti, pesal± bhikkh³ tasmi½ samaye dubbal± honti. Tasmi½, bhikkhave, samaye pesal± bhikkh³ tuºh²bh³t± tuºh²bh³t±va saªghamajjhe saªkas±yanti [saªkamma jh±yanti (ka.), sañc±yanti (s². aµµha.)] paccantime v± janapade acchanti [bhajanti (s². sy±. ka½. p².)]. Tayida½, bhikkhave, hoti bahujan±hit±ya bahujan±sukh±ya, bahuno janassa anatth±ya ahit±ya dukkh±ya devamanuss±na½.
“Yasmi½ bhikkhave, samaye r±j±no balavanto honti, cor± tasmi½ samaye dubbal± honti. Tasmi½, bhikkhave, samaye rañño ph±su hoti atiy±tu½ v± niyy±tu½ v± paccantime v± janapade anusaññ±tu½. Br±hmaºagahapatik±nampi tasmi½ samaye ph±su hoti atiy±tu½ v± niyy±tu½ v± b±hir±ni v± kammant±ni paµivekkhitu½. Evameva½ kho, bhikkhave, yasmi½ samaye pesal± bhikkh³ balavanto honti, p±pabhikkh³ tasmi½ samaye dubbal± honti. Tasmi½, bhikkhave, samaye p±pabhikkh³ tuºh²bh³t± tuºh²bh³t±va saªghamajjhe saªkas±yanti, yena v± pana tena pakkamanti [papatanti (s². sy±. ka½. p².)]. Tayida½, bhikkhave, hoti bahujanahit±ya bahujanasukh±ya, bahuno janassa atth±ya hit±ya sukh±ya devamanuss±nan”ti.
41. “Dvinn±ha½ bhikkhave, micch±paµipatti½ na vaººemi, gihissa v± pabbajitassa v±. Gih² v±, bhikkhave, pabbajito v± micch±paµipanno micch±paµipatt±dhikaraºahetu na ±r±dhako hoti ñ±ya½ dhamma½ kusala½.
“Dvinn±ha½, bhikkhave, samm±paµipatti½ vaººemi, gihissa v± pabbajitassa v±. Gih² v±, bhikkhave, pabbajito v± samm±paµipanno samm±paµipatt±dhikaraºahetu ±r±dhako hoti ñ±ya½ dhamma½ kusalan”ti.
42. “Ye te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ duggahitehi suttantehi byañjanappatir³pakehi atthañca dhammañca paµiv±hanti te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ bahujan±hit±ya paµipann± bahujan±sukh±ya, bahuno janassa anatth±ya ahit±ya dukkh±ya devamanuss±na½. Bahuñca te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ apuñña½ pasavanti, te cima½ saddhamma½ antaradh±penti.
“Ye te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ suggahitehi suttantehi byañjanappatir³pakehi atthañca dhammañca anulomenti te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ bahujanahit±ya paµipann± bahujanasukh±ya, bahuno janassa atth±ya hit±ya sukh±ya devamanuss±na½. Bahuñca te, bhikkhave, bhikkh³ puñña½ pasavanti, te cima½ saddhamma½ µhapent²”ti.
