235. Eka½ samaya½ bhagav± koliyesu viharati haliddavasana½ n±ma koliy±na½ nigamo. Atha kho sambahul± bhikkh³ pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya haliddavasana½ piº¹±ya pavisi½su Atha kho tesa½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “atippago kho t±va haliddavasane piº¹±ya caritu½. Ya½n³na maya½ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkameyy±m±”ti.
Atha kho te bhikkh³ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± tehi aññatitthiyehi paribb±jakehi saddhi½ sammodi½su. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinne kho te bhikkh³ aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± etadavocu½–
“Samaºo, ±vuso, gotamo s±vak±na½ eva½ dhamma½ deseti– ‘etha tumhe, bhikkhave, pañca n²varaºe pah±ya cetaso upakkilese paññ±ya dubbal²karaºe mett±sahagatena cetas± eka½ disa½ pharitv± viharatha, tath± dutiya½, tath± tatiya½, tath± catuttha½; iti uddhamadho tiriya½ sabbadhi sabbattat±ya sabb±vanta½ loka½ mett±sahagatena cetas± vipulena mahaggatena appam±ºena averena aby±pajjena pharitv± viharatha. Karuº±sahagatena cetas± eka½ disa½ pharitv± viharatha, tath± dutiya½, tath± tatiya½, tath± catuttha½; iti uddhamadho tiriya½ sabbadhi sabbattat±ya sabb±vanta½ loka½ karuº±sahagatena cetas± vipulena mahaggatena appam±ºena averena aby±pajjena pharitv± viharatha. “Mayampi kho, ±vuso, s±vak±na½ eva½ dhamma½ desema– ‘etha tumhe, ±vuso, pañca n²varaºe pah±ya cetaso upakkilese paññ±ya dubbal²karaºe mett±sahagatena cetas± eka½ disa½ pharitv± viharatha…pe… karuº±sahagatena cetas±… mudit±sahagatena cetas±… upekkh±sahagatena cetas± eka½ disa½ pharitv± viharatha, tath± dutiya½, tath± tatiya½, tath± catuttha½; iti uddhamadho tiriya½ sabbadhi sabbattat±ya sabb±vanta½ loka½ upekkh±sahagatena cetas± vipulena mahaggatena appam±ºena averena aby±pajjena pharitv± viharath±’ti. Atha kho te bhikkh³ tesa½ aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ bh±sita½ neva abhinandi½su nappaµikkosi½su. Anabhinanditv± appaµikkositv± uµµh±y±san± pakkami½su– “bhagavato santike etassa bh±sitassa attha½ ±j±niss±m±”ti. Atha kho te bhikkh³ haliddavasane piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkant± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho te bhikkh³ bhagavanta½ etadavocu½–
“Idha maya½, bhante, pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya haliddavasane piº¹±ya pavisimha. Tesa½ no, bhante, amh±ka½ etadahosi– ‘atippago kho t±va haliddavasane piº¹±ya caritu½. Ya½n³na maya½ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkameyy±m±”’ti.

“Eva½v±dino, bhikkhave, aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± evamassu vacan²y±– ‘katha½ bh±vit± pan±vuso, mett±cetovimutti, ki½gatik± hoti, ki½param±, ki½phal±, ki½pariyos±n±? Katha½ bh±vit± pan±vuso, karuº±cetovimutti, ki½gatik± hoti, ki½param±, ki½phal±, ki½pariyos±n±? Katha½ bh±vit± pan±vuso, mudit±cetovimutti, ki½gatik± hoti, ki½param±, ki½phal±, ki½pariyos±n±? Yath± ta½, bhikkhave, avisayasmi½. “N±ha½ ta½, bhikkhave, pass±mi sadevake loke sam±rake sabrahmake sassamaºabr±hmaºiy± paj±ya sadevamanuss±ya, yo imesa½ pañh±na½ veyy±karaºena citta½ ±r±dheyya, aññatra tath±gatena v± tath±gatas±vakena v± ito v± pana sutv±”.

Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu mett±sahagata½ satisambojjhaªga½ bh±veti…pe… mett±sahagata½ upekkh±sambojjhaªga½ bh±veti vivekanissita½ vir±ganissita½ nirodhanissita½ vossaggapariº±mi½. So sace ±kaªkhati ‘appaµik³le paµik³lasaññ² vihareyyan’ti, paµik³lasaññ² tattha viharati. Sace ±kaªkhati ‘paµik³le appaµik³lasaññ² vihareyyan’ti, appaµik³lasaññ² tattha viharati. Sace ±kaªkhati ‘appaµik³le ca paµik³le ca paµik³lasaññ² vihareyyan’ti, paµik³lasaññ² tattha viharati. Sace ±kaªkhati ‘paµik³le ca appaµik³le ca appaµik³lasaññ² vihareyyan’ti, appaµik³lasaññ² tattha viharati. Sace ±kaªkhati ‘appaµik³lañca paµik³lañca tadubhaya½ abhinivajjetv± upekkhako vihareyya½ sato sampaj±no’ti, upekkhako ca tattha viharati sato sampaj±no, subha½ v± kho pana vimokkha½ upasampajja viharati. Subhaparam±ha½, bhikkhave, mett±cetovimutti½ vad±mi, idhapaññassa bhikkhuno uttarivimutti½ appaµivijjhato.
“Katha½ bh±vit± ca, bhikkhave, karuº±cetovimutti, ki½gatik± hoti, ki½param±, ki½phal±, ki½pariyos±n±?
