233. Atha kho sambahul± bhikkh³ pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya s±vatthi½ piº¹±ya pavisi½su. Atha kho tesa½ bhikkh³na½ etadahosi– “atippago kho t±va s±vatthiya½ piº¹±ya caritu½. Ya½n³na maya½ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkameyy±m±”ti.
Atha kho te bhikkh³ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± tehi aññatitthiyehi paribb±jakehi saddhi½ sammodi½su. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinne kho te bhikkh³ aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± etadavocu½–
“Samaºo, ±vuso, gotamo s±vak±na½ eva½ dhamma½ deseti– ‘etha tumhe, bhikkhave, pañca n²varaºe pah±ya cetaso upakkilese paññ±ya dubbal²karaºe satta bojjhaªge yath±bh³ta½ bh±veth±’ti. Mayampi kho, ±vuso, s±vak±na½ eva½ dhamma½ desema– ‘etha tumhe, ±vuso, pañca n²varaºe pah±ya cetaso upakkilese paññ±ya dubbal²karaºe satta bojjhaªge yath±bh³ta½ bh±veth±’ti. Idha no, ±vuso, ko viseso, ko adhippay±so, ki½ n±n±karaºa½ samaºassa v± gotamassa amh±ka½ v±, yadida½– dhammadesan±ya v± dhammadesana½, anus±saniy± v± anus±sanin”ti?

Atha kho te bhikkh³ s±vatthi½ piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkant± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½su; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Ekamanta½ nisinn± kho te bhikkh³ bhagavanta½ etadavocu½–
“Idha maya½, bhante, pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya s±vatthi½ piº¹±ya pavisimha. “Eva½v±dino bhikkhave, aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± evamassu vacan²y±– ‘atthi pan±vuso, pariy±yo, ya½ pariy±ya½ ±gamma pañca n²varaº± dasa honti, satta bojjhaªg± catuddas±’ti. Eva½ puµµh±, bhikkhave, aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± na ceva samp±yissanti, uttariñca vigh±ta½ ±pajjissanti. Ta½ kissa hetu? Yath± ta½, bhikkhave, avisayasmi½. “N±ha½ ta½, bhikkhave, pass±mi sadevake loke sam±rake sabrahmake sassamaºabr±hmaºiy± paj±ya sadevamanuss±ya, yo imesa½ pañh±na½ veyy±karaºena citta½ ±r±dheyya, aññatra tath±gatena v± tath±gatas±vakena v± ito v± pana sutv±”.
“Katamo ca, bhikkhave, pariy±yo, ya½ pariy±ya½ ±gamma pañca n²varaº± dasa honti? Yadapi, bhikkhave, ajjhatta½ k±macchando tadapi n²varaºa½, yadapi bahiddh± k±macchando tadapi n²varaºa½. ‘K±macchandan²varaºan’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti. Yadapi, bhikkhave, ajjhatta½ by±p±do tadapi n²varaºa½, yadapi bahiddh± by±p±do tadapi n²varaºa½. ‘By±p±dan²varaºan’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti. “Katamo ca, bhikkhave, pariy±yo, ya½ pariy±ya½ ±gamma satta bojjhaªg± catuddasa honti? Yadapi, bhikkhave, ajjhatta½ dhammesu sati tadapi satisambojjhaªgo, yadapi bahiddh± dhammesu sati tadapi satisambojjhaªgo. ‘Satisambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti.
“Yadapi bhikkhave, ajjhatta½ dhammesu paññ±ya pavicinati [pavicin±ti (ka.)] pavicarati pariv²ma½sam±pajjati tadapi dhammavicayasambojjhaªgo, yadapi bahiddh± dhammesu paññ±ya pavicinati pavicarati pariv²ma½sam±pajjati tadapi dhammavicayasambojjhaªgo. ‘Dhammavicayasambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. “Yadapi, bhikkhave, k±yika½ v²riya½ tadapi v²riyasambojjhaªgo, yadapi cetasika½ v²riya½ tadapi v²riyasambojjhaªgo. ‘V²riyasambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti.
“Yadapi bhikkhave, savitakkasavic±r± p²ti tadapi p²tisambojjhaªgo, yadapi avitakka-avic±r± p²ti tadapi p²tisambojjhaªgo. ‘P²tisambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti.
“Yadapi, bhikkhave, k±yappassaddhi tadapi passaddhisambojjhaªgo, yadapi cittappassaddhi tadapi passaddhisambojjhaªgo. ‘Passaddhisambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti.
“Yadapi, bhikkhave, savitakko savic±ro sam±dhi tadapi sam±dhisambojjhaªgo, yadapi avitakka-avic±ro sam±dhi tadapi sam±dhisambojjhaªgo. ‘Sam±dhisambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati. Tadamin±peta½ pariy±yena dvaya½ hoti.
“Yadapi, bhikkhave, ajjhatta½ dhammesu upekkh± tadapi upekkh±sambojjhaªgo, yadapi bahiddh± dhammesu upekkh± tadapi upekkh±sambojjhaªgo. ‘Upekkh±sambojjhaªgo’ti iti hida½ uddesa½ gacchati.
