Atha kho verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± antev±s² m±ºavako yen±yasm± ud±y² tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmat± ud±yin± saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho ta½ m±ºavaka½ ±yasm± ud±y² dhammiy± kath±ya sandassesi sam±dapesi samuttejesi sampaha½sesi. Atha kho so m±ºavako ±yasmat± ud±yin± dhammiy± kath±ya sandassito sam±dapito samuttejito sampaha½sito uµµh±y±san± yena verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± verahacc±nigotta½ br±hmaºi½ etadavoca– “yagghe, bhoti, j±neyy±si [bhoti j±neyya (s². p². ka.), bhot² j±neyya (sy±. ka½.)]! Samaºo ud±y² dhamma½ deseti ±dikaly±ºa½ majjhekaly±ºa½ pariyos±nakaly±ºa½ s±ttha½ sabyañjana½ kevalaparipuººa½ parisuddha½ brahmacariya½ pak±set²”ti.
“Tena hi tva½, m±ºavaka, mama vacanena samaºa½ ud±yi½ nimantehi sv±tan±ya bhatten±”ti “Eva½ bhot²”ti kho so m±ºavako verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± paµissutv± yen±yasm± ud±y² tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ etadavoca– “adhiv±setu kira, bhava½, ud±yi, amh±ka½ ±cariyabhariy±ya verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± sv±tan±ya bhattan”ti. Adhiv±sesi kho ±yasm± ud±y² tuºh²bh±vena. Atha kho ±yasm± ud±y² tass± rattiy± accayena pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± nivesana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Atha kho verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ paº²tena kh±dan²yena bhojan²yena sahatth± santappesi sampav±resi. Atha kho verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ bhutt±vi½ on²tapattap±ºi½ p±duk± ±rohitv± ucce ±sane nis²ditv± s²sa½ oguºµhitv± ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ etadavoca– “bhaºa, samaºa, dhamman”ti. “Bhavissati, bhagini, samayo”ti vatv± uµµh±y±san± pakkami [pakk±mi (sy±. ka½. p².)].

“Evameva½ pana tva½, m±ºavaka, samaºassa ud±yissa vaººa½ bh±sasi. Samaºo panud±y² ‘bhaºa, samaºa, dhamman’ti vutto sam±no ‘bhavissati, bhagini, samayo’ti vatv± uµµh±y±san± pakkanto”ti. “Tath± hi pana tva½, bhoti, p±duk± ±rohitv± ucce ±sane nis²ditv± s²sa½ oguºµhitv± etadavoca– ‘bhaºa, samaºa, dhamman’ti. Dhammagaruno hi te bhavanto dhammag±rav±”ti. “Tena hi tva½, m±ºavaka, mama vacanena samaºa½ ud±yi½ nimantehi sv±tan±ya bhatten±”ti. “Eva½, bhot²”ti kho so m±ºavako verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± paµissutv± yen±yasm± ud±y² tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ etadavoca– “adhiv±setu kira bhava½ ud±y² amh±ka½ ±cariyabhariy±ya verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± sv±tan±ya bhattan”ti. Atha kho ±yasm± ud±y² tass± rattiy± accayena pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena verahacc±nigott±ya br±hmaºiy± nivesana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± paññatte ±sane nis²di. Atha kho verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ paº²tena kh±dan²yena bhojan²yena sahatth± santappesi sampav±resi. Atha kho verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ bhutt±vi½ on²tapattap±ºi½ p±duk± orohitv± n²ce ±sane nis²ditv± s²sa½ vivaritv± ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ etadavoca– “kismi½ nu kho, bhante, sati arahanto sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, kismi½ asati arahanto sukhadukkha½ na paññapent²”ti?
“Cakkhusmi½ kho, bhagini, sati arahanto sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, cakkhusmi½ asati arahanto sukhadukkha½ na paññapenti…pe… jivh±ya sati arahanto sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, jivh±ya asati arahanto sukhadukkha½ na paññapenti…pe…. Manasmi½ sati arahanto sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, manasmi½ asati arahanto sukhadukkha½ na paññapent²”ti.
Eva½ vutte, verahacc±nigott± br±hmaº² ±yasmanta½ ud±yi½ etadavoca– “abhikkanta½, bhante; abhikkanta½, bhante! Seyyath±pi, bhante, nikkujjita½ v± ukkujjeyya paµicchanna½ v± vivareyya, m³¼hassa v± magga½ ±cikkheyya, andhak±re v± telapajjota½ dh±reyya, cakkhumanto r³p±ni dakkhant²ti; evameva½ ayyena ud±yin± anekapariy±yena dhammo pak±sito. Es±ha½, ayya ud±yi, ta½ bhagavanta½ saraºa½ gacch±mi, dhammañca, bhikkhusaªghañca. Up±sika½ ma½ ayyo ud±y² dh±retu ajjatagge p±ºupeta½ saraºa½ gatan”ti. Dasama½.
