Atha kho nakulapit± gahapati yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho nakulapit± gahapati bhagavanta½ etadavoca–
“Ahamasmi bhante, jiººo vu¹¹ho mahallako addhagato vayo-anuppatto ±turak±yo abhikkhaº±taªko. Aniccadass±v² kho pan±ha½, bhante, bhagavato manobh±van²y±nañca bhikkh³na½. Ovadatu ma½, bhante, bhagav±; anus±satu ma½, bhante, bhagav±; ya½ mamassa d²gharatta½ hit±ya sukh±y±”ti.
“Evameta½, gahapati, evameta½, gahapati! ¾turo h±ya½, gahapati, k±yo aº¹abh³to pariyonaddho. Yo hi, gahapati, ima½ k±ya½ pariharanto muhuttampi ±rogya½ paµij±neyya, kimaññatra b±ly±? Tasm±tiha te, gahapati, eva½ sikkhitabba½– ‘±turak±yassa me sato citta½ an±tura½ bhavissat²’ti. Evañhi te, gahapati, sikkhitabban”ti.
Atha kho nakulapit± gahapati bhagavato bh±sita½ abhinanditv± anumoditv± uµµh±y±san± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± yen±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho nakulapitara½ gahapati½ ±yasm± s±riputto etadavoca– “vippasann±ni kho te, gahapati, indriy±ni; parisuddho mukhavaººo pariyod±to. Alattha no ajja bhagavato sammukh± dhammi½ katha½ savan±y±”ti?
“Kathañhi no siy±, bhante! Id±n±ha½, bhante, bhagavat± dhammiy± kath±ya amatena abhisitto”ti. “Yath± katha½ pana tva½, gahapati, bhagavat± dhammiy± kath±ya amatena abhisitto”ti? “Idh±ha½, bhante, yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami½; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½. S±dhu vat±yasmanta½yeva s±riputta½ paµibh±tu etassa bh±sitassa attho”ti.
