Eva½ viharante panettha tath±gate aññataro hatthin±go hatthin²hi hatthipotak±d²hi gocarabh³mititthog±han±d²su ubb±¼ho y³the ukkaºµhito “ki½ me imehi hatth²h²”ti? Y³tha½ pah±ya manussapatha½ gacchanto p±lileyyakavanasaº¹e bhagavanta½ disv± ghaµasahassena nibb±pitasant±po viya nibbuto hutv± satthu santike aµµh±si. Ekadivasa½ satth± rattibh±gasamanantare caªkamitv± p±s±ºaphalake nis²di. Hatth²pi avid³re µh±ne aµµh±si. Satth± pacchato oloketv± na kiñci addasa, eva½ purato ca ubhayapassesu ca. Athassa “sukha½ vat±ha½ aññatra tehi bhaº¹anak±rakehi vas±m²”ti citta½ uppajji. Hatthinopi “may± n±mitas±kha½ aññe kh±dant± natth²”ti-±d²ni cintetv±– “sukha½ vata ekakova vas±mi, satthu vatta½ k±tu½ labh±m²”ti citta½ uppajji. Satth± attano citta½ oloketv±– “mama t±va ²disa½ citta½, k²disa½ nu kho hatthiss±”ti tass±pi t±disameva disv± “sameti no cittan”ti ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Eta½ n±gassa n±gena, ²s±dantassa hatthino;
sameti citta½ cittena, yadeko ramat² vane”ti. (Mah±va. 467).
Atha kho sambahul± bhikkh³ti atha eva½ tath±gate tattha viharante pañcasat± dis±su vassa½vutth± bhikkh³. Yen±yasm± ±nandoti “satth± kira bhikkhusaªgha½ paº±metv± arañña½ paviµµho”ti attano dhammat±ya satthu santika½ gantu½ asakkont± yen±yasm± ±nando, tenupasaªkami½su.
Anantar± ±sav±na½ khayoti magg±nantara½ arahattaphala½. Vicayasoti vicayena, tesa½ tesa½ dhamm±na½ sabh±vavicinanasamatthena ñ±ºena paricchinditv±ti attho. Dhammoti s±sanadhammo. Catt±ro satipaµµh±n±ti-±di ye ye koµµh±se paricchinditv± dhammo desito, tesa½ pak±sanatth±ya vutta½. Samanupassan±ti diµµhisamanupassan±. Saªkh±ro soti diµµhisaªkh±ro so. Tatojo so saªkh±roti tato taºh±to so saªkh±ro j±to. Taºh±sampayuttesu cittesupi cat³su cittesu esa j±yati. S±pi taºh±ti s± diµµhisaªkh±rassa paccayabh³t± taºh±. S±pi vedan±ti s± taºh±ya paccayabh³t± vedan±. Sopi phassoti so vedan±ya paccayo avijj±samphasso. S±pi avijj±ti s± phassasampayutt± avijj±.
No cassa½ no ca me siy±ti sace aha½ na bhaveyya½, mama parikkh±ropi na bhaveyya. N±bhavissa½, na me bhavissat²ti sace pana ±yatimpi aha½ na bhaviss±mi, eva½ mama parikkh±ropi na bhavissati. Ettake µh±ne bhagav± tena bhikkhun± gahitagahitadiµµhi½ vissajj±pento ±gato puggalajjh±sayenapi desan±vil±senapi. Tatojo so saªkh±roti taºh±sampayuttacitte vicikicch±va natthi, katha½ vicikicch±saªkh±ro taºh±to j±yat²ti? Appah²natt±. Yassa hi taºh±ya appah²n±ya so uppajjati, ta½ sandh±yeta½ vutta½. Diµµhiy±pi eseva nayo labbhatiyeva cat³su hi cittupp±desu sampayuttadiµµhi n±ma natthi. Yasm± pana taºh±ya appah²natt± s± uppajjati, tasm± ta½ sandh±ya tatr±pi ayamattho yujjati.
