25. S±vatthiya½ viharati. Atha kho ±yasm± bh³mijo s±yanhasamaya½ paµisall±n± vuµµhito yen±yasm± s±riputto tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmat± s±riputtena saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± bh³mijo ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ etadavoca–
“Sant±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½kata½ sukhadukkha½ paññapenti. Santi pan±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± para½kata½ sukhadukkha½ paññapenti. Sant±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½katañca para½katañca sukhadukkha½ paññapenti. Santi pan±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± asaya½k±ra½ apara½k±ra½ adhiccasamuppanna½ sukhadukkha½ paññapenti. Idha no, ±vuso s±riputta, bhagav± ki½v±d² kimakkh±y² katha½ by±karam±n± ca maya½ vuttav±dino ceva bhagavato ass±ma, na ca bhagavanta½ abh³tena abbh±cikkheyy±ma, dhammassa c±nudhamma½ by±kareyy±ma, na ca koci sahadhammiko v±d±nup±to g±rayha½ µh±na½ ±gaccheyy±”ti?
“Paµiccasamuppanna½ kho, ±vuso, sukhadukkha½ vutta½ bhagavat±. Ki½ paµicca? Phassa½ paµicca. Iti vada½ vuttav±d² ceva bhagavato assa, na ca bhagavanta½ abh³tena abbh±cikkheyya, dhammassa c±nudhamma½ by±kareyya, na ca koci sahadhammiko v±d±nup±to g±rayha½ µh±na½ ±gaccheyya.
“Tatr±vuso, ye te samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½kata½ sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, tadapi phassapaccay±. Yepi te…pe… yepi te…pe… yepi te samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± asaya½k±ra½ apara½k±ra½ adhiccasamuppanna½ sukhadukkha½ paññapenti, tadapi phassapaccay±.

Assosi kho ±yasm± ±nando ±yasmato s±riputtassa ±yasmat± bh³mijena saddhi½ ima½ kath±sall±pa½. Atha kho ±yasm± ±nando yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± ±nando y±vatako ±yasmato s±riputtassa ±yasmat± bh³mijena saddhi½ ahosi kath±sall±po ta½ sabba½ bhagavato ±rocesi.
“S±dhu s±dhu, ±nanda, yath± ta½ s±riputto samm± by±karam±no by±kareyya. Paµiccasamuppanna½ kho, ±nanda, sukhadukkha½ vutta½ may±. Ki½ paµicca? Phassa½ paµicca. “S±ma½ v± ta½, ±nanda, k±yasaªkh±ra½ abhisaªkharoti, ya½paccay±ssa [ya½paccay±ya (sy±. ka½.), ya½paccay± ya½ (ka.)] ta½ uppajjati ajjhatta½ sukhadukkha½.
