24. R±jagahe viharati ve¼uvane. Atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya r±jagaha½ piº¹±ya p±visi. Atha kho ±yasmato s±riputtassa etadahosi– “atippago kho t±va r±jagahe piº¹±ya caritu½. Ya½n³n±ha½ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkameyyan”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± tehi aññatitthiyehi paribb±jakehi saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho ±yasmanta½ s±riputta½ te aññatitthiy± paribb±jak± etadavocu½–
“Sant±vuso, s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½kata½ dukkha½ paññapenti. Santi pan±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± para½kata½ dukkha½ paññapenti. Sant±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½katañca para½katañca dukkha½ paññapenti. Santi pan±vuso s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± asaya½k±ra½ apara½k±ra½ adhiccasamuppanna½ dukkha½ paññapenti. Idha, pan±vuso s±riputta, samaºo gotamo ki½v±d² kimakkh±y²? “Paµiccasamuppanna½ kho, ±vuso, dukkha½ vutta½ bhagavat±. Ki½ paµicca? Phassa½ paµicca. Iti vada½ vuttav±d² ceva bhagavato assa, na ca bhagavanta½ abh³tena abbh±cikkheyya, dhammassa c±nudhamma½ by±kareyya, na ca koci sahadhammiko v±d±nup±to g±rayha½ µh±na½ ±gaccheyya.
“Tatr±vuso, ye te samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½kata½ dukkha½ paññapenti tadapi phassapaccay±. Yepi te samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± para½kata½ dukkha½ paññapenti tadapi phassapaccay±. Yepi te samaºabr±hmaº± kammav±d± saya½katañca para½katañca dukkha½ paññapenti tadapi phassapaccay±. Atha kho ±yasm± ±nando r±jagahe piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± ±nando y±vatako ±yasmato s±riputtassa tehi aññatitthiyehi paribb±jakehi saddhi½ ahosi kath±sall±po ta½ sabba½ bhagavato ±rocesi.
“S±dhu s±dhu, ±nanda, yath± ta½ s±riputto samm± by±karam±no by±kareyya. Paµiccasamuppanna½ kho, ±nanda, dukkha½ vutta½ may±. Ki½ paµicca? Phassa½ paµicca. Tassa mayha½, ±nanda, etadahosi– ‘atippago kho t±va r±jagahe piº¹±ya caritu½. Ya½n³n±ha½ yena aññatitthiy±na½ paribb±jak±na½ ±r±mo tenupasaªkameyya”n’ti.

“Tena h±nanda, taññevettha paµibh±t³”ti. “Sace ma½, bhante, eva½ puccheyyu½– ‘jar±maraºa½, ±vuso ±nanda, ki½nid±na½ ki½samudaya½ ki½j±tika½ ki½pabhavan’ti? Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½– ‘jar±maraºa½ kho, ±vuso, j±tinid±na½ j±tisamudaya½ j±tij±tika½ j±tipabhavan’ti. Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½.
“Sace ma½, bhante, eva½ puccheyyu½– ‘j±ti pan±vuso ±nanda, ki½nid±n± ki½samuday± ki½j±tik± ki½pabhav±’ti? Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½– ‘j±ti kho, ±vuso, bhavanid±n± bhavasamuday± bhavaj±tik± bhavappabhav±’ti. Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½
“Sace ma½, bhante, eva½ puccheyyu½– ‘bhavo pan±vuso ±nanda, ki½nid±no ki½samudayo ki½j±tiko ki½pabhavo’ti? Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½– ‘bhavo kho, ±vuso, up±d±nanid±no up±d±nasamudayo up±d±naj±tiko up±d±nappabhavo’ti. Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½.
“Sace ma½, bhante, eva½ puccheyyu½– up±d±na½ pan±vuso…pe… taºh± pan±vuso…pe… vedan± pan±vuso…pe… sace ma½, bhante, eva½ puccheyyu½– ‘phasso pan±vuso ±nanda, ki½nid±no ki½samudayo ki½j±tiko ki½pabhavo’ti? Eva½ puµµhoha½, bhante, eva½ by±kareyya½– ‘phasso kho, ±vuso, sa¼±yatananid±no sa¼±yatanasamudayo sa¼±yatanaj±tiko sa¼±yatanappabhavo’ti. ‘Channa½tveva, ±vuso, phass±yatan±na½ asesavir±ganirodh± phassanirodho; phassanirodh± vedan±nirodho; vedan±nirodh± taºh±nirodho; taºh±nirodh± up±d±nanirodho; up±d±nanirodh± bhavanirodho; bhavanirodh± j±tinirodho; j±tinirodh± jar±maraºa½ sokaparidevadukkhadomanassup±y±s± nirujjhanti.
