390. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de. Atha kho sakko dev±namindo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Ekamanta½ µhito kho sakko dev±namindo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “kitt±vat± nu kho, bhante, bhikkhu sa½khittena taºh±saªkhayavimutto hoti accantaniµµho accantayogakkhem² accantabrahmac±r² accantapariyos±no seµµho devamanuss±nan”ti?
“Idha, dev±naminda, bhikkhuno suta½ hoti– ‘sabbe dhamm± n±la½ abhinives±y±’ti. Evañceta½, dev±naminda, bhikkhuno suta½ hoti– ‘sabbe dhamm± n±la½ abhinives±y±’ti. So sabba½ dhamma½ abhij±n±ti; sabba½ dhamma½ abhiññ±ya sabba½ dhamma½ parij±n±ti; sabba½ dhamma½ pariññ±ya ya½ kiñci vedana½ vedeti– sukha½ v± dukkha½ v± adukkhamasukha½ v±, so t±su vedan±su anicc±nupass² viharati, vir±g±nupass² viharati, nirodh±nupass² viharati, paµinissagg±nupass² viharati. So t±su vedan±su anicc±nupass² viharanto, vir±g±nupass² viharanto, nirodh±nupass² viharanto, paµinissagg±nupass² viharanto na kiñci loke up±diyati. Anup±diya½ na paritassati, aparitassa½ paccattaññeva parinibb±yati ‘kh²º± j±ti, vusita½ brahmacariya½, kata½ karaº²ya½, n±para½ itthatt±y±’ti paj±n±ti. Ett±vat± kho, dev±naminda, bhikkhu sa½khittena taºh±saªkhayavimutto hoti accantaniµµho accantayogakkhem² accantabrahmac±r² accantapariyos±no seµµho devamanuss±nan”ti.
Atha kho sakko dev±namindo bhagavato bh±sita½ abhinanditv± anumoditv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± tatthevantaradh±yi.
391. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± mah±moggall±no bhagavato avid³re nisinno hoti. Atha kho ±yasmato mah±moggall±nassa etadahosi– “ki½ nu kho so yakkho bhagavato bh±sita½ abhisamecca anumodi ud±hu no; ya½n³n±ha½ ta½ yakkha½ j±neyya½– yadi v± so yakkho bhagavato bh±sita½ abhisamecca anumodi yadi v± no”ti? Atha kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no– seyyath±pi n±ma balav± puriso samiñjita½ v± b±ha½ pas±reyya, pas±rita½ v± b±ha½ samiñjeyya, evameva– pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de antarahito devesu t±vati½sesu p±turahosi. Tena kho pana samayena sakko dev±namindo ekapuº¹ar²ke uyy±ne dibbehi pañcahi t³riyasatehi [turiyasatehi (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] samappito samaªg²bh³to paric±reti. Addas± kho sakko dev±namindo ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½. Disv±na t±ni dibb±ni pañca t³riyasat±ni paµippaº±metv± yen±yasm± mah±moggall±no tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ etadavoca– “ehi kho, m±risa moggall±na, sv±gata½, m±risa moggall±na! Cirassa½ kho, m±risa moggall±na, ima½ pariy±ya½ ak±si yadida½ idh±gaman±ya. Nis²da, m±risa moggall±na, idam±sana½ paññattan”ti. Nis²di kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no paññatte ±sane. Sakkopi kho dev±namindo aññatara½ n²ca½ ±sana½ gahetv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho sakka½ dev±naminda½ ±yasm± mah±moggall±no etadavoca– “yath± katha½ pana kho, kosiya, bhagav± sa½khittena taºh±saªkhayavimutti½ abh±si? S±dhu mayampi etiss± kath±ya bh±gino ass±ma savan±y±”ti.
392. “Maya½ kho, m±risa moggall±na, bahukicc± bahukaraº²y±– appeva sakena karaº²yena, api ca dev±na½yeva t±vati½s±na½ karaº²yena. Api ca, m±risa moggall±na, sussuta½yeva hoti suggahita½ sumanasikata½ s³padh±rita½, ya½ no khippameva antaradh±yati. Bh³tapubba½, m±risa moggall±na, dev±surasaªg±mo samupaby³¼ho [sam³pabyu¼ho (sy±. ka½.), sam³pabb³¼ho (s².)] ahosi. Tasmi½ kho pana, m±risa moggall±na, saªg±me dev± jini½su, asur± par±jini½su. So kho aha½, m±risa moggall±na, ta½ saªg±ma½ abhivijinitv± vijitasaªg±mo tato paµinivattitv± vejayanta½ n±ma p±s±da½ m±pesi½. Vejayantassa kho, m±risa moggall±na, p±s±dassa ekasata½ niyy³ha½. Ekekasmi½ niyy³he satta satta k³µ±g±rasat±ni. Ekamekasmi½ k³µ±g±re satta satta acchar±yo Ekamekiss± acchar±ya satta satta paric±rik±yo. Iccheyy±si no tva½ m±risa moggall±na, vejayantassa p±s±dassa r±maºeyyaka½ daµµhun”ti? Adhiv±sesi kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no tuºh²bh±vena.
393. Atha kho sakko ca dev±namindo vessavaºo ca mah±r±j± ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ purakkhatv± yena vejayanto p±s±do tenupasaªkami½su. Addasa½su kho sakkassa dev±namindassa paric±rik±yo ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½; disv± ottappam±n± hir²yam±n± saka½ saka½ ovaraka½ pavisi½su. Seyyath±pi n±ma suºis± sasura½ disv± ottappati hir²yati, evameva sakkassa dev±namindassa paric±rik±yo ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ disv± ottappam±n± hir²yam±n± saka½ saka½ ovaraka½ pavisi½su. Atha kho sakko ca dev±namindo vessavaºo ca mah±r±j± ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ vejayante p±s±de anucaªkam±penti anuvicar±penti– “idampi, m±risa moggall±na, passa vejayantassa p±s±dassa r±maºeyyaka½; idampi, m±risa moggall±na, passa vejayantassa p±s±dassa r±maºeyyakan”ti. “Sobhati ida½ ±yasmato kosiyassa, yath± ta½ pubbe katapuññassa. Manuss±pi kiñcideva r±maºeyyaka½ disv± [diµµh± (s². p². ka.)] evam±ha½su– ‘sobhati vata bho yath± dev±na½ t±vati½s±nan’ti. Tayida½ ±yasmato kosiyassa sobhati, yath± ta½ pubbe katapuññass±”ti. Atha kho ±yasmato mah±moggall±nassa etadahosi– “atib±¼ha½ kho aya½ yakkho pamatto viharati. Ya½n³n±ha½ ima½ yakkha½ sa½vejeyyan”ti. Atha kho sakkassa dev±namindassa paric±rik±yo acirapakkante ±yasmante mah±moggall±ne sakka½ dev±naminda½ etadavocu½– “eso nu te, m±risa, so bhagav± satth±”ti? “Na kho me, m±risa, so bhagav± satth±. Sabrahmac±r² me eso ±yasm± mah±moggall±no”ti. “L±bh± te, m±risa, (suladdha½ te, m±risa) [( ) natthi (s². p².)] yassa te sabrahmac±r² eva½mahiddhiko eva½mah±nubh±vo! Aho n³na te so bhagav± satth±”ti.

Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “abhij±n±ti no, bhante, bhagav± ahu [ahunaññeva (s². sy±. ka½.)] ñ±taññatarassa mahesakkhassa yakkhassa sa½khittena taºh±saªkhayavimutti½ bh±sit±”ti [abh±sitth±ti (ka.)]? “Abhij±n±maha½, moggall±na, idha sakko dev±namindo yen±ha½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ma½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Ekamanta½ µhito kho, moggall±na, sakko dev±namindo ma½ etadavoca– ‘kitt±vat± nu kho, bhante bhikkhu sa½khittena taºh±saªkhayavimutto hoti accantaniµµho accantayogakkhem² accantabrahmac±r² accantapariyos±no seµµho devamanuss±nan”ti.
