353. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± ves±liya½ viharati mah±vane k³µ±g±ras±l±ya½. Tena kho pana samayena saccako nigaºµhaputto ves±liya½ paµivasati bhassappav±dako paº¹itav±do s±dhusammato bahujanassa. So ves±liya½ parisati eva½ v±ca½ bh±sati– “n±ha½ ta½ pass±mi samaºa½ v± br±hmaºa½ v±, saªghi½ gaºi½ gaº±cariya½, api arahanta½ samm±sambuddha½ paµij±nam±na½, yo may± v±dena v±da½ sam±raddho na saªkampeyya na sampakampeyya na sampavedheyya, yassa na kacchehi sed± mucceyyu½. Th³ºa½ cep±ha½ acetana½ v±dena v±da½ sam±rabheyya½, s±pi may± v±dena v±da½ sam±raddh± saªkampeyya sampakampeyya sampavedheyya. Ko pana v±do manussabh³tass±”ti?
Atha kho ±yasm± assaji pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya ves±li½ piº¹±ya p±visi. Addas± kho saccako nigaºµhaputto ves±liya½ jaªgh±vih±ra½ anucaªkamam±no anuvicaram±no ±yasmanta½ assaji½ d³ratova ±gacchanta½. Disv±na yen±yasm± assaji tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmat± assajin± saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Ekamanta½ µhito kho saccako nigaºµhaputto ±yasmanta½ assaji½ etadavoca– “katha½ pana, bho assaji, samaºo gotamo s±vake vineti, katha½bh±g± ca pana samaºassa gotamassa s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattat²”ti? “Eva½ kho, aggivessana, bhagav± s±vake vineti, eva½bh±g± ca pana bhagavato s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattati– ‘r³pa½, bhikkhave, anicca½, vedan± anicc±, saññ± anicc±, saªkh±r± anicc±, viññ±ºa½ anicca½. R³pa½, bhikkhave, anatt±, vedan± anatt±, saññ± anatt±, saªkh±r± anatt±, viññ±ºa½ anatt±. Sabbe saªkh±r± anicc±, sabbe dhamm± anatt±’ti. Eva½ kho, aggivessana, bhagav± s±vake vineti, eva½bh±g± ca pana bhagavato s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattat²”ti. “Dussuta½ vata, bho assaji, assumha ye maya½ eva½v±di½ samaºa½ gotama½ assumha. Appeva n±ma maya½ kad±ci karahaci tena bhot± gotamena saddhi½ sam±gaccheyy±ma appeva n±ma siy± kocideva kath±sall±po, appeva n±ma tasm± p±pak± diµµhigat± viveceyy±m±”ti.
354. Tena kho pana samayena pañcamatt±ni licchavisat±ni santh±g±re [sandh±g±re (ka.)] sannipatit±ni honti kenacideva karaº²yena. Atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto yena te licchav² tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± te licchav² etadavoca– “abhikkamantu bhonto licchav², abhikkamantu bhonto licchav², ajja me samaºena gotamena saddhi½ kath±sall±po bhavissati. Sace me samaºo gotamo tath± patiµµhissati yath± ca me [yath±ssa me (s². p².)] ñ±taññatarena s±vakena assajin± n±ma bhikkhun± patiµµhita½, seyyath±pi n±ma balav± puriso d²ghalomika½ e¼aka½ lomesu gahetv± ±ka¹¹heyya parika¹¹heyya samparika¹¹heyya evamev±ha½ samaºa½ gotama½ v±dena v±da½ ±ka¹¹hiss±mi parika¹¹hiss±mi samparika¹¹hiss±mi. Seyyath±pi n±ma balav± soº¹ik±kammak±ro mahanta½ soº¹ik±ki¼añja½ gambh²re udakarahade pakkhipitv± kaººe gahetv± ±ka¹¹heyya parika¹¹heyya samparika¹¹heyya, evamev±ha½ samaºa½ gotama½ v±dena v±da½ ±ka¹¹hiss±mi parika¹¹hiss±mi samparika¹¹hiss±mi. Seyyath±pi n±ma balav± soº¹ik±dhutto v±la½ [th±la½ (ka.)] kaººe gahetv± odhuneyya niddhuneyya nipphoµeyya [nicch±deyya (s². p². ka.), nicchoµeyya (ka.), nippoµheyya (sy±. ka½.)] evamev±ha½ samaºa½ gotama½ v±dena v±da½ odhuniss±mi niddhuniss±mi nipphoµess±mi. Seyyath±pi n±ma kuñjaro saµµhih±yano gambh²ra½ pokkharaºi½ og±hetv± s±ºadhovika½ n±ma k²¼itaj±ta½ k²¼ati, evamev±ha½ samaºa½ gotama½ s±ºadhovika½ maññe k²¼itaj±ta½ k²¼iss±mi. Abhikkamantu bhonto licchav², abhikkamantu bhonto licchav², ajja me samaºena gotamena saddhi½ kath±sall±po bhavissat²”ti. Tatrekacce licchav² evam±ha½su– “ki½ samaºo gotamo saccakassa nigaºµhaputtassa v±da½ ±ropessati, atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto samaºassa gotamassa v±da½ ±ropessat²”ti? Ekacce licchav² evam±ha½su– “ki½ so bhavam±no saccako nigaºµhaputto yo bhagavato v±da½ ±ropessati, atha kho bhagav± saccakassa nigaºµhaputtassa v±da½ ±ropessat²”ti? Atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto pañcamattehi licchavisatehi parivuto yena mah±vana½ k³µ±g±ras±l± tenupasaªkami.
355. Tena kho pana samayena sambahul± bhikkh³ abbhok±se caªkamanti. Atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto yena te bhikkh³ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± te bhikkh³ etadavoca– “kaha½ nu kho, bho, etarahi so bhava½ gotamo viharati? Dassanak±m± hi maya½ ta½ bhavanta½ gotaman”ti “Esa, aggivessana, bhagav± mah±vana½ ajjhog±hetv± aññatarasmi½ rukkham³le div±vih±ra½ nisinno”ti. Atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto mahatiy± licchaviparis±ya saddhi½ mah±vana½ ajjhog±hetv± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavat± saddhi½ sammodi. Sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Tepi kho licchav² appekacce bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su, appekacce bhagavat± saddhi½ sammodi½su, sammodan²ya½ katha½ s±raº²ya½ v²tis±retv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su. Appekacce yena bhagav± tenañjali½ paº±metv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su, appekacce bhagavato santike n±magotta½ s±vetv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su, appekacce tuºh²bh³t± ekamanta½ nis²di½su.
356. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho saccako nigaºµhaputto bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “puccheyy±ha½ bhavanta½ gotama½ kiñcideva desa½, sace me bhava½ gotamo ok±sa½ karoti pañhassa veyy±karaº±y±”ti. “Puccha, aggivessana yad±kaªkhas²”ti “Katha½ pana bhava½ gotamo s±vake vineti, katha½bh±g± ca pana bhoto gotamassa s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattat²”ti? “Eva½ kho aha½, aggivessana, s±vake vinemi, eva½bh±g± ca pana me s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattati– ‘r³pa½, bhikkhave, anicca½, vedan± anicc±, saññ± anicc±, saªkh±r± anicc±, viññ±ºa½ anicca½. R³pa½, bhikkhave, anatt±, vedan± anatt±, saññ± anatt±, saªkh±r± anatt±, viññ±ºa½ anatt±. Sabbe saªkh±r± anicc±, sabbe dhamm± anatt±’ti. Eva½ kho aha½, aggivessana, s±vake vinemi, eva½bh±g± ca pana me s±vakesu anus±san² bahul± pavattat²”ti.
“Upam± ma½, bho gotama, paµibh±t²”ti. “Paµibh±tu ta½, aggivessan±”ti bhagav± avoca.
“Seyyath±pi, bho gotama, ye kecime b²jag±mabh³tag±m± vuddhi½ vir³¼hi½ vepulla½ ±pajjanti, sabbe te pathavi½ niss±ya pathaviya½ patiµµh±ya. Evamete b²jag±mabh³tag±m± vuddhi½ vir³¼hi½ vepulla½ ±pajjanti. Seyyath±pi v± pana, bho gotama, ye kecime balakaraº²y± kammant± kar²yanti, sabbe te pathavi½ niss±ya pathaviya½ patiµµh±ya. Evamete balakaraº²y± kammant± kar²yanti. Evameva kho, bho gotama, r³patt±ya½ purisapuggalo r³pe patiµµh±ya puñña½ v± apuñña½ v± pasavati, vedanatt±ya½ purisapuggalo vedan±ya½ patiµµh±ya puñña½ v± apuñña½ v± pasavati, saññatt±ya½ purisapuggalo saññ±ya½ patiµµh±ya puñña½ v± apuñña½ v± pasavati, saªkh±ratt±ya½ purisapuggalo saªkh±resu patiµµh±ya puñña½ v± apuñña½ v± pasavati, viññ±ºatt±ya½ purisapuggalo viññ±ºe patiµµh±ya puñña½ v± apuñña½ v± pasavat²”ti.
“Nanu tva½, aggivessana, eva½ vadesi– ‘r³pa½ me att±, vedan± me att±, saññ± me att±, saªkh±r± me att±, viññ±ºa½ me att±”’ti? “Ahañhi, bho gotama eva½ vad±mi– ‘r³pa½ me att±, vedan± me att±, saññ± me att±, saªkh±r± me att±, viññ±ºa½ me att±’ti, ayañca mahat² janat±”ti.
“Kiñhi te, aggivessana, mahat² janat± karissati? Iªgha tva½, aggivessana, sakaññeva v±da½ nibbeµheh²”ti. “Ahañhi, bho gotama, eva½ vad±mi– ‘r³pa½ me att±, vedan± me att±, saññ± me att±, saªkh±r± me att±, viññ±ºa½ me att±”’ti.
357. “Tena hi, aggivessana, taññevettha paµipucchiss±mi, yath± te khameyya tath± na½ [tath± ta½ (ka.)] by±kareyy±si. Ta½ ki½ maññasi aggivessana, vatteyya rañño khattiyassa muddh±vasittassa sakasmi½ vijite vaso– gh±tet±ya½ v± gh±tetu½, j±pet±ya½ v± j±petu½, pabb±jet±ya½ v± pabb±jetu½, seyyath±pi rañño pasenadissa kosalassa, seyyath±pi v± pana rañño m±gadhassa aj±tasattussa vedehiputtass±”ti? “Vatteyya, bho gotama, rañño khattiyassa muddh±vasittassa sakasmi½ vijite vaso– gh±tet±ya½ v± gh±tetu½, j±pet±ya½ v± j±petu½, pabb±jet±ya½ v± pabb±jetu½, seyyath±pi rañño pasenadissa kosalassa, seyyath±pi v± pana rañño m±gadhassa aj±tasattussa vedehiputtassa. Imesampi hi, bho gotama, saªgh±na½ gaº±na½– seyyathida½, vajj²na½ mall±na½– vattati sakasmi½ vijite vaso– gh±tet±ya½ v± gh±tetu½, j±pet±ya½ v± j±petu½, pabb±jet±ya½ v± pabb±jetu½. Ki½ pana rañño khattiyassa muddh±vasittassa, seyyath±pi rañño pasenadissa kosalassa seyyath±pi v± pana rañño m±gadhassa aj±tasattussa vedehiputtassa? Vatteyya, bho gotama, vattituñca marahat²”ti.
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, aggivessana, ya½ tva½ eva½ vadesi– ‘r³pa½ me att±’ti, vattati te tasmi½ r³pe vaso– eva½ me r³pa½ hotu, eva½ me r³pa½ m± ahos²”ti? Eva½ vutte, saccako nigaºµhaputto tuºh² ahosi. Dutiyampi kho bhagav± saccaka½ nigaºµhaputta½ etadavoca– “ta½ ki½ maññasi, aggivessana, ya½ tva½ eva½ vadesi– ‘r³pa½ me att±’ti, vattati te tasmi½ r³pe vaso– eva½ me r³pa½ hotu, eva½ me r³pa½ m± ahos²”ti? Dutiyampi kho saccako nigaºµhaputto tuºh² ahosi. Atha kho bhagav± saccaka½ nigaºµhaputta½ etadavoca– “by±karohi d±ni, aggivessana, na d±ni te tuºh²bh±vassa k±lo. Yo koci, aggivessana tath±gatena y±vatatiya½ sahadhammika½ pañha½ puµµho na by±karoti, etthevassa sattadh± muddh± phalat²”ti.
Tena kho pana samayena vajirap±ºi yakkho ±yasa½ vajira½ ±d±ya ±ditta½ sampajjalita½ sajotibh³ta½ saccakassa nigaºµhaputtassa upariveh±sa½ µhito hoti– ‘sac±ya½ saccako nigaºµhaputto bhagavat± y±vatatiya½ sahadhammika½ pañha½ puµµho na by±karissati etthevassa sattadh± muddha½ ph±less±m²’ti. Ta½ kho pana vajirap±ºi½ yakkha½ bhagav± ceva passati saccako ca nigaºµhaputto. Atha kho saccako nigaºµhaputto bh²to sa½viggo lomahaµµhaj±to bhagavanta½yeva t±ºa½ gaves² bhagavanta½yeva leºa½ gaves² bhagavanta½yeva saraºa½ gaves² bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “pucchatu ma½ bhava½ gotamo, by±kariss±m²”ti.
358. “Ta½ ki½ maññasi, aggivessana, ya½ tva½ eva½ vadesi– ‘r³pa½ me att±’ti, vattati te tasmi½ r³pe vaso– eva½ me r³pa½ hotu, eva½ me r³pa½ m± ahos²”ti? “No hida½, bho gotama”.
“Manasi karohi, aggivessana; manasi karitv± kho, aggivessana, by±karohi. Na kho te sandhiyati purimena v± pacchima½ pacchimena v± purima½. Ta½ ki½ maññasi, aggivessana, ya½ tva½ eva½ vadesi– ‘vedan± me att±’ti, vattati te tissa½ vedan±ya½ [t±ya½ vedan±ya½ (s². sy±.)] vaso– eva½ me vedan± hotu, eva½ me vedan± m± ahos²”ti? “No hida½, bho gotama”.
