206. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Tatra kho bhagav± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “bhikkhavo”ti. “Bhadante”ti te bhikkh³ bhagavato paccassosu½. Bhagav± etadavoca–
“Pubbeva me, bhikkhave, sambodh± anabhisambuddhassa bodhisattasseva sato etadahosi– ‘ya½n³n±ha½ dvidh± katv± dvidh± katv± vitakke vihareyyan’ti. So kho aha½, bhikkhave, yo c±ya½ k±mavitakko yo ca by±p±davitakko yo ca vihi½s±vitakko– ima½ eka½ bh±gamak±si½ yo c±ya½ nekkhammavitakko yo ca aby±p±davitakko yo ca avihi½s±vitakko– ima½ dutiya½ bh±gamak±si½.
207. “Tassa mayha½, bhikkhave, eva½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato uppajjati k±mavitakko. So eva½ paj±n±mi– ‘uppanno kho me aya½ k±mavitakko. So ca kho attaby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, paraby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, ubhayaby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, paññ±nirodhiko vigh±tapakkhiko anibb±nasa½vattaniko’ [anibb±nasa½vattaniko”ti (?)]. ‘Attaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘paraby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘ubhayaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘paññ±nirodhiko vigh±tapakkhiko anibb±nasa½vattaniko’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati. So kho aha½, bhikkhave, uppannuppanna½ k±mavitakka½ pajahameva [at²tak±likakiriy±pad±niyeva] vinodameva [at²tak±likakiriy±pad±niyeva] byantameva [byanteva (s². sy±. p².)] na½ ak±si½.
208. “Tassa mayha½, bhikkhave, eva½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato uppajjati by±p±davitakko…pe… uppajjati vihi½s±vitakko. So eva½ paj±n±mi– ‘uppanno kho me aya½ vihi½s±vitakko. So ca kho attaby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, paraby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, ubhayaby±b±dh±yapi sa½vattati, paññ±nirodhiko vigh±tapakkhiko anibb±nasa½vattaniko’. ‘Attaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘paraby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘ubhayaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattat²’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati; ‘paññ±nirodhiko vigh±tapakkhiko anibb±nasa½vattaniko’tipi me, bhikkhave, paµisañcikkhato abbhattha½ gacchati. So kho aha½, bhikkhave, uppannuppanna½ vihi½s±vitakka½ pajahameva vinodameva byantameva na½ ak±si½.
“Yaññadeva, bhikkhave, bhikkhu bahulamanuvitakketi anuvic±reti, tath± tath± nati hoti cetaso. K±mavitakka½ ce, bhikkhave, bhikkhu bahulamanuvitakketi anuvic±reti, pah±si nekkhammavitakka½, k±mavitakka½ bahulamak±si, tassa ta½ k±mavitakk±ya citta½ namati. By±p±davitakka½ ce, bhikkhave…pe… vihi½s±vitakka½ ce, bhikkhave, bhikkhu bahulamanuvitakketi anuvic±reti, pah±si avihi½s±vitakka½, vihi½s±vitakka½ bahulamak±si, tassa ta½ vihi½s±vitakk±ya citta½ namati. Seyyath±pi, bhikkhave, vass±na½ pacchime m±se saradasamaye kiµµhasamb±dhe gop±lako g±vo rakkheyya. So t± g±vo tato tato daº¹ena ±koµeyya paµikoµeyya sannirundheyya sanniv±reyya. Ta½ kissa hetu? Passati hi so, bhikkhave, gop±lako tatonid±na½ vadha½ v± bandhana½ v± j±ni½ v± garaha½ v±. Evameva kho aha½, bhikkhave, addasa½ akusal±na½ dhamm±na½ ±d²nava½ ok±ra½ sa½kilesa½, kusal±na½ dhamm±na½ nekkhamme ±nisa½sa½ vod±napakkha½.
209. “Tassa mayha½, bhikkhave, eva½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato uppajjati nekkhammavitakko. So eva½ paj±n±mi– ‘uppanno kho me aya½ nekkhammavitakko. So ca kho nevattaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, na paraby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, na ubhayaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, paññ±vuddhiko avigh±tapakkhiko nibb±nasa½vattaniko’. Ratti½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Divasa½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Rattindiva½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Api ca kho me aticira½ anuvitakkayato anuvic±rayato k±yo kilameyya K±ye kilante [kilamante (ka.)] citta½ ³haññeyya. Ðhate citte ±r± citta½ sam±dhimh±ti. So kho aha½, bhikkhave, ajjhattameva citta½ saºµhapemi sannis±demi ekodi½ karomi [ekodi karomi (p².)] sam±dah±mi. Ta½ kissa hetu? ‘M± me citta½ ³haññ²’ti [uggh±µ²ti (sy±. ka.), ³han²ti (p².)].
210. “Tassa mayha½, bhikkhave, eva½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato uppajjati aby±p±davitakko…pe… uppajjati avihi½s±vitakko. So eva½ paj±n±mi– ‘uppanno kho me aya½ avihi½s±vitakko. So ca kho nevattaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, na paraby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, na ubhayaby±b±dh±ya sa½vattati, paññ±vuddhiko avigh±tapakkhiko nibb±nasa½vattaniko’. Ratti½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Divasa½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Rattindiva½ cepi na½, bhikkhave, anuvitakkeyya½ anuvic±reyya½, neva tatonid±na½ bhaya½ samanupass±mi. Api ca kho me aticira½ anuvitakkayato anuvic±rayato k±yo kilameyya. Nekkhammavitakkañce, bhikkhave, bhikkhu bahulamanuvitakketi anuvic±reti, pah±si k±mavitakka½, nekkhammavitakka½ bahulamak±si, tassa½ ta½ nekkhammavitakk±ya citta½ namati. Aby±p±davitakkañce, bhikkhave…pe… avihi½s±vitakkañce, bhikkhave, bhikkhu bahulamanuvitakketi anuvic±reti, pah±si vihi½s±vitakka½, avihi½s±vitakka½ bahulamak±si, tassa ta½ avihi½s±vitakk±ya citta½ namati. Seyyath±pi, bhikkhave, gimh±na½ pacchime m±se sabbasassesu g±mantasambhatesu gop±lako g±vo rakkheyya tassa rukkham³lagatassa v± abbhok±sagatassa v± satikaraº²yameva hoti– ‘et± [ete (ka.)] g±vo’ti. Evameva½ kho, bhikkhave, satikaraº²yameva ahosi– ‘ete dhamm±’ti.
211. “¾raddha½ kho pana me, bhikkhave, v²riya½ ahosi asall²na½, upaµµhit± sati asammuµµh± passaddho k±yo as±raddho, sam±hita½ citta½ ekagga½. So kho aha½, bhikkhave, vivicceva k±mehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakka½ savic±ra½ vivekaja½ p²tisukha½ paµhama½ jh±na½ upasampajja vih±si½. Vitakkavic±r±na½ v³pasam± ajjhatta½ sampas±dana½ cetaso ekodibh±va½ avitakka½ avic±ra½ sam±dhija½ p²tisukha½ dutiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja vih±si½. P²tiy± ca vir±g± upekkhako ca vih±si½ sato ca sampaj±no, sukhañca k±yena paµisa½vedesi½, ya½ ta½ ariy± ±cikkhanti ‘upekkhako satim± sukhavih±r²’ti, tatiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja vih±si½. Sukhassa ca pah±n± dukkhassa ca pah±n± pubbeva somanassadomanass±na½ atthaªgam± adukkhamasukha½ upekkh±satip±risuddhi½ catuttha½ jh±na½ upasampajja vih±si½.
212. “So eva½ sam±hite citte parisuddhe pariyod±te anaªgaºe vigat³pakkilese mudubh³te kammaniye µhite ±neñjappatte pubbeniv±s±nussatiñ±º±ya citta½ abhininn±mesi½. So anekavihita½ pubbeniv±sa½ anussar±mi. Seyyathida½, ekampi j±ti½…pe… iti s±k±ra½ sa-uddesa½ anekavihita½ pubbeniv±sa½ anussar±mi. Aya½ kho me, bhikkhave, rattiy± paµhame y±me paµham± vijj± adhigat±; avijj± vihat± vijj± uppann±; tamo vihato ±loko uppanno; yath± ta½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato.
213. “So eva½ sam±hite citte parisuddhe pariyod±te anaªgaºe vigat³pakkilese mudubh³te kammaniye µhite ±neñjappatte satt±na½ cut³pap±tañ±º±ya citta½ abhininn±mesi½. So dibbena cakkhun± visuddhena atikkantam±nusakena satte pass±mi cavam±ne upapajjam±ne…pe… ime vata bhonto satt± k±yaduccaritena samann±gat±…pe… iti dibbena cakkhun± visuddhena atikkantam±nusakena satte pass±mi cavam±ne upapajjam±ne h²ne paº²te suvaººe dubbaººe sugate duggate, yath±kamm³page satte paj±n±mi. Aya½ kho me, bhikkhave, rattiy± majjhime y±me dutiy± vijj± adhigat±; avijj± vihat± vijj± uppann±; tamo vihato ±loko uppanno; yath± ta½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato.
214. “So eva½ sam±hite citte parisuddhe pariyod±te anaªgaºe vigat³pakkilese mudubh³te kammaniye µhite ±neñjappatte ±sav±na½ khayañ±º±ya citta½ abhininn±mesi½. So ‘ida½ dukkhan’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ dukkhasamudayo’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ dukkhanirodho’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ dukkhanirodhag±min² paµipad±’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½ ‘Ime ±sav±’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ ±savasamudayo’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ ±savanirodho’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½, ‘aya½ ±savanirodhag±min² paµipad±’ti yath±bh³ta½ abbhaññ±si½. Aya½ kho me, bhikkhave, rattiy± pacchime y±me tatiy± vijj± adhigat±; avijj± vihat± vijj± uppann±; tamo vihato ±loko uppanno; yath± ta½ appamattassa ±t±pino pahitattassa viharato.
215. “Seyyath±pi, bhikkhave, araññe pavane mahanta½ ninna½ pallala½. Tamena½ mah±migasaªgho upaniss±ya vihareyya. Tassa kocideva puriso uppajjeyya anatthak±mo ahitak±mo ayogakkhemak±mo. So yv±ssa maggo khemo sovatthiko p²tigaman²yo ta½ magga½ pidaheyya, vivareyya kummagga½, odaheyya okacara½, µhapeyya okac±rika½. Evañhi so, bhikkhave, mah±migasaªgho aparena samayena anayabyasana½ [anayabyasana½ tanutta½ (s². sy±. p².)] ±pajjeyya. Tasseva kho pana, bhikkhave, mahato migasaªghassa kocideva puriso uppajjeyya atthak±mo hitak±mo yogakkhemak±mo. So yv±ssa maggo khemo sovatthiko p²tigaman²yo ta½ magga½ vivareyya, pidaheyya kummagga½, ³haneyya okacara½, n±seyya okac±rika½. Evañhi so, bhikkhave, mah±migasaªgho aparena samayena vuddhi½ vir³¼hi½ vepulla½ ±pajjeyya.
“Upam± kho me aya½, bhikkhave, kat± atthassa viññ±pan±ya Aya½ cevettha attho– mahanta½ ninna½ pallalanti kho, bhikkhave, k±m±nameta½ adhivacana½. Mah±migasaªghoti kho, bhikkhave, satt±nameta½ adhivacana½. Puriso anatthak±mo ahitak±mo ayogakkhemak±moti kho, bhikkhave, m±rasseta½ p±pimato adhivacana½. Kummaggoti kho, bhikkhave, aµµhaªgikasseta½ micch±maggassa adhivacana½, seyyathida½– micch±diµµhiy± micch±saªkappassa micch±v±c±ya micch±kammantassa micch±-±j²vassa micch±v±y±massa micch±satiy± micch±sam±dhissa. Okacaroti kho, bhikkhave, nand²r±gasseta½ adhivacana½. Okac±rik±ti kho, bhikkhave, avijj±yeta½ adhivacana½. Puriso atthak±mo hitak±mo yogakkhemak±moti kho, bhikkhave, tath±gatasseta½ adhivacana½ arahato samm±sambuddhassa. Khemo maggo sovatthiko p²tigaman²yoti kho bhikkhave, ariyasseta½ aµµhaªgikassa maggassa adhivacana½, seyyathida½– samm±diµµhiy± samm±saªkappassa samm±v±c±ya samm±kammantassa samm±-±j²vassa samm±v±y±massa samm±satiy± samm±sam±dhissa.
“Iti kho, bhikkhave, vivaµo may± khemo maggo sovatthiko p²tigaman²yo, pihito kummaggo, ³hato okacaro, n±sit± okac±rik±. Ya½, bhikkhave, satth±r± karaº²ya½ s±vak±na½ hitesin± anukampakena anukampa½ up±d±ya, kata½ vo ta½ may±. Et±ni, bhikkhave rukkham³l±ni, et±ni suññ±g±r±ni; jh±yatha, bhikkhave, m± pam±dattha; m± pacch± vippaµis±rino ahuvattha. Aya½ vo amh±ka½ anus±san²”ti.
