Tatr±ssuda½, s±riputta, bhi½sanakassa vanasaº¹assa bhi½sanakatasmi½ hoti– yo koci av²tar±go ta½ vanasaº¹a½ pavisati, yebhuyyena lom±ni ha½santi. So kho aha½, s±riputta, y± t± rattiyo s²t± hemantik± antaraµµhak± himap±tasamay± [antaraµµhake himap±tasamaye (s². p².)] tath±r³p±su ratt²su ratti½ abbhok±se vihar±mi, div± vanasaº¹e; gimh±na½ pacchime m±se div± abbhok±se vihar±mi, ratti½ vanasaº¹e. “Sotatto sosinno [sos²no (s². p². ka.), sosino (sy±.), sosindo (saddan²ti)] ceva, eko bhi½sanake vane;
naggo na caggim±s²no, esan±pasuto mun²”ti.
“So kho aha½, s±riputta, sus±ne seyya½ kappemi chavaµµhik±ni upadh±ya. Apissu ma½, s±riputta, g±maº¹al± [gomaº¹al± (bah³su) cariy±piµaka-aµµhakath± oloketabb±] upasaªkamitv± oµµhubhantipi, omuttentipi, pa½sukenapi okiranti, kaººasotesupi sal±ka½ pavesenti. 158. “Santi kho pana, s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± eva½v±dino eva½diµµhino– ‘±h±rena suddh²’ti. Te evam±ha½su– ‘kolehi y±pem±’ti. Te kolampi kh±danti, kolacuººampi kh±danti, kolodakampi pivanti– anekavihitampi kolavikati½ paribhuñjanti. Abhij±n±mi kho pan±ha½, s±riputta, eka½yeva kola½ ±h±ra½ ±h±rit±. Siy± kho pana te, s±riputta, evamassa– ‘mah± n³na tena samayena kolo ahos²’ti. Na kho paneta½, s±riputta, eva½ daµµhabba½. Tad±pi etaparamoyeva kolo ahosi seyyath±pi etarahi. “T±yapi kho aha½, s±riputta, iriy±ya t±ya paµipad±ya t±ya dukkarak±rik±ya n±jjhagama½ uttari½ manussadhamm± alamariyañ±ºadassanavisesa½. Ta½ kissa hetu? Imiss±yeva ariy±ya paññ±ya anadhigam±, y±ya½ ariy± paññ± adhigat± ariy± niyy±nik±, niyy±ti takkarassa samm± dukkhakkhay±ya.

Suddh±v±se c±ha½, s±riputta, deve sa½sareyya½, nayima½ loka½ punar±gaccheyya½.

“Santi kho pana, s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± eva½v±dino eva½diµµhino– ‘aggiparicariy±ya suddh²’ti. Na kho pana so, s±riputta, aggi sulabhar³po yo may± apariciººapubbo imin± d²ghena addhun±, tañca kho raññ± v± sat± khattiyena muddh±vasittena br±hmaºena v± mah±s±lena.
161. “Santi kho pana, s±riputta, eke samaºabr±hmaº± eva½v±dino eva½diµµhino– ‘y±vadev±ya½ bhava½ puriso daharo hoti yuv± susuk±¼akeso bhadrena yobbanena samann±gato paµhamena vayas± t±vadeva paramena paññ±veyyattiyena samann±gato hoti. Yato ca kho aya½ bhava½ puriso jiººo hoti vuddho mahallako addhagato vayo-anuppatto, ±s²tiko v± n±vutiko v± vassasatiko v± j±tiy±, atha tamh± paññ±veyyattiy±, parih±yat²’ti. 162. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± n±gasam±lo bhagavato piµµhito µhito hoti bhagavanta½ b²jayam±no. Atha kho ±yasm± n±gasam±lo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “acchariya½, bhante, abbhuta½, bhante! Api hi me, bhante, ima½ dhammapariy±ya½ sutv± lom±ni haµµh±ni. Kon±mo aya½, bhante, dhammapariy±yo”ti? “Tasm±tiha tva½, n±gasam±la, ima½ dhammapariy±ya½ lomaha½sanapariy±yo tveva na½ dh±reh²”ti.
