Imin± puµµha½ aha½ pucchiss±m²ti eko eka½ na oloketi. Eva½ santepi tesa½ v±ro paññ±yati. Eva½ buddh±na½ pana v±ro na paññ±yati, vidatthicaturaªgulach±ya½ atikkamato puretara½yeva bhagav± cuddasavidhena k±y±nupassana½, navavidhena vedan±nupassana½, so¼asavidhena citt±nupassana½, pañcavidhena dhamm±nupassana½ katheti. Tiµµhantu v± t±va ete catt±ro. Sace hi aññe catt±ro sammappadh±nesu, aññe iddhip±desu, aññe pañca indriyesu, aññe pañca balesu, aññe satta bojjhaªgesu, aññe aµµha maggaªgesu pañha½ puccheyyu½, tampi bhagav± katheyya. Tiµµhantu v± ete aµµha. Sace aññe sattati½sa jan± bodhipakkhiyesu pañha½ puccheyyu½, tampi bhagav± t±vadeva katheyya. Kasm±? Y±vat± hi lokiyamah±jan± eka½ pada½ kathenti. T±va ±nandatthero aµµha pad±ni katheti. ¾nandatthere pana eka½ pada½ kathenteyeva bhagav± so¼asapad±ni katheti. Kasm±? Bhagavato hi jivh± muduk± dant±varaºa½ suphusita½ vacana½ agalita½ bhavaªgapariv±so lahuko. Ten±ha “apariy±dinn±yevassa, s±riputta, tath±gatassa dhammadesan±”ti.
Tattha dhammadasen±ti tantiµhapan±. Dhammapadabyañjananti p±¼iy± padabyañjana½, tassa tassa atthassa byañjanaka½ akkhara½. Pañhapaµibh±nanti pañhaby±karaºa½. Imin± ki½ dasseti? Tath±gato pubbe daharak±le akkhar±ni sampiº¹etv± pada½ vattu½ sakkoti, pad±ni sampiº¹etv± g±tha½ vattu½ sakkoti, catu-akkharehi v± aµµha-akkharehi v± so¼asa-akkharehi v± padehi yutt±ya g±th±ya attha½ vattu½ sakkoti. Id±ni pana mahallakak±le akkhar±ni sampiº¹etv± pada½ v±, pad±ni sampiº¹etv± g±tha½ v±, g±th±ya attha½ v± vattu½ na sakkot²ti eva½ natthi. Daharak±le ca mahallakak±le ca sabbameta½ tath±gatassa apariy±dinnamev±ti ima½ dasseti. Mañcakena cepi manti ida½ buddhabalad²panatthameva parikappetv± ±ha. Dasabala½ pana mañcake ±ropetv± g±manigamar±jadh±niyo pariharaºak±lo n±ma natthi. Tath±gat± hi pañcame ±yukoµµh±se khaº¹icc±d²hi anabhibh³t± suvaººavaººasar²rassa vevaººiye ananuppatte devamanuss±na½ piyaman±pak±leyeva parinibb±yanti.
162. N±gasam±loti tassa therassa n±ma½. Paµhamabodhiyañhi v²sativassabbhantare upav±nan±gitameghiyatther± viya ayampi bhagavato upaµµh±ko ahosi. B²jayam±noti mandamandena t±lavaºµav±tena bhagavato utusukha½ samuµµh±payam±no. Etadavoc±ti sakalasuttanta½ sutv± bhagavato pubbacarita½ dukkarak±raka½ ±gamma pasanno eta½ “acchariya½ bhante”ti-±divacana½ avoca. Tattha acchara½ paharitu½ yuttanti acchariya½. Abh³tapubba½ bh³tanti abbhuta½. Ubhayenapi attano vimhayameva d²peti. Ko n±mo aya½ bhanteti ida½ bhaddako vat±ya½ dhammapariy±yo, handassa bhagavanta½ ±y±citv± n±ma½ gaºh±pem²ti adhipp±yena ±ha. Athassa bhagav± n±ma½ gaºhanto tasm± tiha tvanti-±dim±ha. Tassattho, yasm± ida½ sutta½ sutv± tava lom±ni haµµh±ni, tasm± tiha tva½ n±gasam±la, ima½ dhammapariy±ya½ “lomaha½sana pariy±yo”tveva na½ dh±reh²ti.
