Mohe pana yattha katthaci uppanne–
“Gar³sa½v±so uddeso, uddiµµhaparipucchana½;
k±lena dhammassavana½, µh±n±µµh±navinicchayo;
pañca dhamm³paniss±ya, mohadh±tu pah²yat²”ti.–

Ime pañca dhamm± upanissitabb±. Garu½ upaniss±ya viharanto hi bhikkhu– “±cariyo g±mappavesana½ an±pucchantassa pattak±le vatta½ akarontassa ghaµasata-udak±haraº±didaº¹akamma½ karot²”ti yattappaµiyatto hoti, athassa moho pah²yati. Uddesa½ gaºhantopi– “±cariyo uddesak±le uddesa½ aggaºhantassa as±dhuka½ sajjh±yantassa ca daº¹akamma½ karot²”ti yattappaµiyatto hoti, evampissa moho pah²yati. Garubh±van²ye bhikkh³ upasa½kamitv± “ida½ bhante katha½ imassa ko attho”ti paripucchanto ka½kha½ vinodeti, evampissa moho pah²yati. K±lena dhammasavanaµµh±na½ gantv± sakkacca½ dhamma½ suºantass±pi tesu tesu µh±nesu attho p±kaµo hoti. Evampissa moho pah²yati. Idamassa k±raºa½, ida½ na k±raºanti µh±n±µµh±navinicchaye cheko hoti, evampissa moho pah²yati. Tenassa pañcadhamm³panissayo añña½ nimitta½ n±ma hoti.

Apica aµµhati½s±ya ±rammaºesu ya½kiñci bh±ventass±pi ime vitakk± pah²yanti eva. Im±ni pana nimitt±ni ujuvipaccan²k±ni paµipakkhabh³t±ni. Imehi pah²n± r±g±dayo suppah²n± honti. Yath± hi aggi½ allakaµµhehipi pa½s³hipi s±kh±d²hipi pothetv± nibb±pentiyeva, udaka½ pana aggissa ujuvipaccan²ka½, tena nibbuto sunibbuto hoti, evamimehi nimittehi pah²n± r±g±dayo suppah²n± honti. Tasm± et±ni kathit±n²ti veditabb±ni.
Kusal³pasa½hitanti kusalanissita½ kusalassa paccayabh³ta½. Ajjhattamev±ti gocarajjhatta½yeva. Palagaº¹oti va¹¹hak². Sukhum±ya ±ºiy±ti ya½ ±ºi½ n²harituk±mo hoti, tato sukhumatar±ya s±rad±ru-±ºiy±. O¼±rika½ ±ºinti candaphalake v± s±raphalake v± ±koµita½ visam±ºi½. Abhinihaneyy±ti muggarena ±koµento haneyya. Abhin²hareyy±ti eva½ abhinihananto phalakato n²hareyya. Abhinivaseyy±ti id±ni bahu nikkhant±ti ñatv± hatthena c±letv± nikka¹¹heyya Tattha phalaka½ viya citta½, phalake visam±º² viya akusalavitakk±, sukhum±º² viya añña½ asubhabh±van±dikusalanimitta½, sukhum±ºiy± o¼±rik±ºin²haraºa½ viya asubhabh±van±d²hi kusalanimittehi tesa½ vitakk±na½ n²haraºa½.
217. Ahikuºapen±ti-±di atijegucchapaµik³lakuºapadassanattha½ vutta½. Kaºµhe ±satten±ti kenacideva paccatthikena ±netv± kaºµhe baddhena paµimukkena. Aµµiyeyy±ti aµµo dukkhito bhaveyya. Har±yeyy±ti lajjeyya. Jiguccheyy±ti sañj±tajiguccho bhaveyya.
Pah²yant²ti eva½ imin±pi k±raºena ete akusal± dhamm± s±vajj± dukkhavip±k±ti attano paññ±balena upaparikkhato ahikuºap±d²ni viya jigucchantassa pah²yanti. Yo pana attano paññ±balena upaparikkhitu½ na sakkoti, tena ±cariya½ v± upajjh±ya½ v± aññatara½ v± garuµµh±niya½ sabrahmac±ri½ saªghatthera½ v± upasaªkamitv± ghaº¹i½ paharitv± bhikkhusaªghameva v± sannip±tetv± ±rocetabba½, bahunañhi sannip±te bhavissateva eko paº¹itamanusso, sv±ya½ eva½ etesu ±d²navo daµµhabboti kathessati, k±yavicchindan²yakath±d²hi v± pana te vitakke niggaºhissat²ti.
218. Asati-amanasik±ro ±pajjitabboti neva so vitakko saritabbo na manasik±tabbo, aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Yath± hi r³pa½ apassituk±mo puriso akkh²ni nim²leyya, evameva m³lakammaµµh±na½ gahetv± nisinnena bhikkhun± cittamhi vitakke uppanne aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Evamassa so vitakko pah²yati, tasmi½ pah²ne puna kammaµµh±na½ gahetv± nis²ditabba½.
Sace na pah²yati, uggahito dhammakath±pabandho hoti, so mah±saddena sajjh±yitabbo. Evampi ce aññavihitakassa sato so na pah²yati. Thavik±ya muµµhipotthako hoti, yattha ca buddhavaºº±pi dhammavaºº±pi likhit± honti, ta½ n²haritv± v±centena aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Evampi ce na pah²yati, thavikato araºisahit±ni n²haritv± “aya½ uttar±raº² aya½ adhar±raº²”ti ±vajjentena aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Evampi ce na pah²yati, sip±µika½ n²haritv± “ida½ ±rakaºµaka½ n±ma, aya½ pipphalako n±ma, ida½ nakhacchedana½ n±ma, aya½ s³ci n±m±”ti parikkh±ra½ samann±nentena aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Evampi ce na pah²yati, s³ci½ gahetv± c²vare jiººaµµh±na½ sibbantena aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Eva½ y±va na pah²yati, t±va ta½ ta½ kusalakamma½ karontena aññavihitakena bhavitabba½. Pah²ne puna m³lakammaµµh±na½ gahetv± nis²ditabba½, navakamma½ pana na paµµhapetabba½. Kasm±? Vitakke pacchinne kammaµµh±namanasik±rassa ok±so na hoti.
Por±ºakapaº¹it± pana navakamma½ katv±pi vitakka½ pacchindi½su. Tatrida½ vatthu– tissas±maºerassa kira upajjh±yo tissamah±vih±re vasati. Tissas±maºero “bhante ukkaºµhitomh²”ti ±ha. Atha na½ thero “imasmi½ vih±re nh±na-udaka½ dullabha½, ma½ gahetv± cittalapabbata½ gacch±h²”ti ±ha. So tath± ak±si. Tattha na½ thero ±ha “aya½ vih±ro accantasaªghiko, eka½ puggalikaµµh±na½ karoh²”ti. So s±dhu bhanteti ±dito paµµh±ya sa½yuttanik±ya½ pabbh±rasodhana½ tejodh±tukasiºaparikammanti t²º²pi ekato ±rabhitv± kammaµµh±na½ appana½ p±pesi, sa½yuttanik±ya½ pariyos±pesi, leºakamma½ niµµh±pesi, sabba½ katv± upajjh±yassa sañña½ ad±si. Upajjh±yo “dukkhena te s±maºera kata½, ajja t±va tva½yeva vas±h²”ti ±ha. So ta½ ratti½ leºe vasanto utusapp±ya½ labhitv± vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± arahatta½ patv± tattheva parinibb±yi. Tassa dh±tuyo gahetv± cetiya½ aka½su. Ajj±pi tissattheracetiyanti paññ±yati. Ida½ pabba½ asatipabba½ n±ma.
219. Imasmi½ µhatv± vitakke niggaºhitu½ asakkonto idha µhatv± niggaºhissat²ti vitakkam³labheda½ pabba½ dassento puna tassa ce bhikkhaveti-±dim±ha. Tattha vitakkasaªkh±rasaºµh±na½ manasik±tabbanti saªkharot²ti saªkh±ro, paccayo, k±raºa½ m³lanti attho. Santiµµhati etth±ti saºµh±na½, vitakkasaªkh±rassa saºµh±na½ vitakkasaªkh±rasaºµh±na½, ta½ manasik±tabbanti. Ida½ vutta½ hoti, aya½ vitakko ki½ hetu ki½ paccay± ki½ k±raº± uppannoti vitakk±na½ m³lañca m³lam³lañca manasik±tabbanti. Ki½ nu kho aha½ s²gha½ gacch±m²ti kena nu kho k±raºena aha½ s²gha½ gacch±mi? Ya½n³n±ha½ saºika½ gaccheyyanti ki½ me imin± s²ghagamanena, saºika½ gacchiss±m²ti cintesi. So saºika½ gaccheyy±ti so eva½ cintetv± saºika½ gaccheyya. Esa nayo sabbattha.
Tattha tassa purisassa s²ghagamanak±lo viya imassa bhikkhuno vitakkasam±ru¼hak±lo. Tassa saºikagamanak±lo viya imassa vitakkac±rapacchedanak±lo. Tassa µhitak±lo viya imassa vitakkac±re pacchinne m³lakammaµµh±na½ cittotaraºak±lo. Tassa nisinnak±lo viya imassa vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± arahattappattak±lo. Tassa nipannak±lo viya imassa nibb±n±rammaº±ya phalasam±pattiy± divasa½ v²tivattanak±lo. Tattha ime vitakk± ki½ hetuk± ki½ paccay±ti vitakk±na½ m³lam³la½ gacchantassa vitakkac±ro sithilo hoti. Tasmi½ sithil²bh³te matthaka½ gacchante vitakk± sabbaso nirujjhanti. Ayamattho duddubhaj±takenapi d²petabbo–
Sasakassa kira beluvarukkham³le nidd±yantassa beluvapakka½ vaºµato chijjitv± kaººam³le patita½. So tassa saddena “pathav² bhijjat²”ti saññ±ya uµµhahitv± vegena pal±yi. Ta½ disv± purato aññepi catuppad± pal±yi½su. Tad± bodhisatto s²ho hoti. So cintesi– “aya½ pathav² n±ma kappavin±se bhijjati, antar± pathav²bhedo n±ma natthi, ya½n³n±ha½ m³lam³la½ gantv± anuvijjeyyan”ti. So hatthin±gato paµµh±ya y±va sasaka½ pucchi “tay±, t±ta, pathav² bhijjam±n± diµµh±”ti. Saso “±ma dev±”ti ±ha. S²ho “ehi, bho, dasseh²”ti. Saso “na sakkomi s±m²”ti. “Ehi, re, m± bh±y²”ti saºhamudukena gahetv± gato saso rukkhassa avid³re µhatv±–
“Duddubh±yati bhaddante, yasmi½ dese vas±maha½;
ahampeta½ na j±n±mi, kimeta½ duddubh±yat²”ti. (J±. 1.4.85)–

Bodhisatto “tva½ ettheva tiµµh±”ti rukkham³la½ gantv± sasakassa nipannaµµh±na½ addasa, beluvapakka½ addasa, uddha½ oleketv± vaºµa½ addasa, disv± “aya½ saso ettha nipanno, nidd±yam±no imassa kaººam³le patitassa saddena ‘pathav² bhijjat²’ti eva½saññ² hutv± pal±y²”ti ñatv± ta½ k±raºa½ sasa½ pucchi. Saso “±ma, dev±”ti ±ha. Bodhisatto ima½ g±tham±ha–

“Beluva patita½ sutv±, duddubhanti saso javi;
sasassa vacana½ sutv±, santatt± migav±hin²”ti. (J±. 1.4.86).
Tato bodhisatto “m± bh±yath±”ti migagaºe ass±sesi. Eva½ vitakk±na½ m³lam³la½ gacchantassa vitakk± pah²yanti.
220. Imasmi½ vitakkam³labhedapabbe µhatv± vitakke niggaºhitu½ asakkontena pana eva½ niggaºhitabb±ti aparampi k±raºa½ dassento puna tassa ce, bhikkhaveti-±dim±ha.
Dantebhidantam±dh±y±ti heµµh±dante uparidanta½ µhapetv±. Cetas± cittanti kusalacittena akusalacitta½ abhiniggaºhitabba½. Balav± purisoti yath± th±masampanno mah±balo puriso dubbala½ purisa½ s²se v± gale v± khandhe v± gahetv± abhiniggaºheyya abhinipp²¼eyya abhisant±peyya santatta½ kilanta½ mucch±pareta½ viya kareyya, evameva bhikkhun± vitakkehi saddhi½ paµimallena hutv± “ke ca tumhe ko c±han”ti abhibhavitv±– “k±ma½ taco ca nh±ru ca aµµhi ca avasissatu sar²re upasussatu ma½salohitan”ti (a. ni. 2.5) eva½ mah±v²riya½ paggayha vitakk± niggaºhitabb±ti dassento ima atthad²pika½ upama½ ±hari.
221. Yato kho, bhikkhaveti ida½ pariy±d±nabh±janiya½ n±ma, ta½ utt±natthameva. Yath± pana satth±cariyo tiroraµµh± ±gata½ r±japutta½ pañc±vudhasippa½ uggaºh±petv± “gaccha, attano raµµhe rajja½ gaºha. Sace te antar±magge cor± uµµhahanti, dhanun± kamma½ katv± gaccha. Sace te dhanu nassati v± bhijjati v± sattiy± asin±”ti eva½ pañcahipi ±vudhehi kattabba½ dassetv± uyyojeti. So tath± katv± sakaraµµha½ gantv± rajja½ gahetv± rajjasiri½ anubhoti. Evameva½ bhagav± adhicittamanuyutta½ bhikkhu½ arahattagahaºatth±ya uyyojento– “sacassa antar± akusalavitakk± uppajjanti, aññanimittapabbe µhatv± te niggaºhitv± vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± arahatta½ p±puºissati. Tattha asakkonto ±d²navapabbe µhatv±, tatr±pi asakkonto asatipabbe µhatv±, tatr±pi asakkonto vitakkam³labhedapabbe µhatv±, tatr±pi asakkonto abhiniggaºhanapabbe µhatv± vitakke niggaºhitv± vipassana½ va¹¹hetv± arahatta½ p±puºissat²”ti im±ni pañca pabb±ni desesi.
Vas² vitakkapariy±yapathes³ti vitakkac±rapathesu ciººavas² paguºavas²ti vuccati. Ya½ vitakka½ ±kaªkhissat²ti ida½ assa vas²bh±v±k±radassanattha½ vutta½. Ayañhi pubbe ya½ vitakka½ vitakketuk±mo hoti, ta½ na vitakketi. Ya½ na vitakketuk±mo hoti, ta½ vitakketi. Id±ni pana vas²bh³tatt± ya½ vitakka½ vitakketuk±mo hoti, ta½yeva vitakketi. Ya½ na vitakketuk±mo, na ta½ vitakketi. Tena vutta½ “ya½ vitakka½ ±kaªkhissati, ta½ vitakka½ vitakkessati. Ya½ vitakka½ n±kaªkhissati, na ta½ vitakka½ vitakkhessat²”ti. Acchecchi taºhanti-±di sabb±savasutte vuttamev±ti.
