Aya½ panass± attho– ‘br±hmaºo assa (brahmuno) mukha½ ±si. B±h³ r±jañño kato, khattiy± assa b±h³ti vutta½ hoti. Yo vesso, so assa ³r³. Suddo assa p±dehi aj±y²’ti.
Buddhaghoso pana ‘paº¹itabr±hmaºo’ti ñ±topi ta½ g±tha½ na aññ±si. Tath± hi tena bandhup±d±pacc±ti padassa atthavaººan±ya½ ‘tesa½ kira aya½ laddhi– br±hmaº± brahmuno mukhato nikkhant±, khattiy± urato, vess± n±bhito, sudd± j±ºuto, samaº± piµµhip±dato’ti [d². ni. aµµha. 1.263; ma. ni. aµµha. 1.508] tiss± vedag±th±ya asam±nattho vaººito”ti.
Aya½ panettha anuvic±raº±– yadi ca ta½k±lik±nampi br±hmaº±na½ laddhi tatheva bhaveyya yath± etissa½ g±th±ya½ vutt±, s± catthavaººan± ±cariyassa matimatt±. Eva½ sati s± vic±raº± yutt± bhaveyya. Etissa½ pana g±th±ya½ “br±hmaºosya mukham±s²di”ti paµhamap±dena “br±hmaº± brahmuno mukhato j±t±”ti attho ujukato na labbhati. Buddhak±le pana br±hmaº±na½ laddhi “br±hmaº± brahmuno mukhato j±t±”ti evameva ahos²ti p±kaµoyev±yamattho. Tath± hi d²ghanik±ye p±thikavagge aggaññasutte (3, 67)–
“Dissanti kho pana v±seµµha br±hmaº±na½ br±hmaºiyo utuniyopi gabbhiniyopi vij±yam±n±pi p±yam±n±pi. Te ca br±hmaº± yonij±va sam±n± evam±ha½su– br±hmaºova seµµho vaººo, h²n± aññe vaºº±. Br±hmaºova sukko vaººo, kaºh± aññe vaºº±. Br±hmaº±va sujjhanti, no abr±hmaº±. Br±hmaº±va brahmuno putt± oras± mukhato j±t± brahmaj± brahmanimmit± brahmad±y±d±ti. Te brahm±nañceva abbh±cikkhanti, mus± ca bh±santi, bahuñca apuñña½ pasavant²”ti–
Bhagavat± mah±k±ruºikena v±seµµhabh±radv±j±na½ br±hmaºam±ºavak±na½ bh±sita½, tehi ca ta½ abhinandita½. Te pana dvepi m±ºavak± j±tivasena parisuddhabr±hmaº± ceva honti tiººampi ved±na½ p±raguno ca. Tasm± “br±hmaº± brahmuno mukhato nikkhant±”ti vacanassa ta½k±lik±na½ br±hmaº±na½ laddhivasena vuttabh±vo p±kaµoyeva. Yath± ceta½, eva½ “khattiy± urato, vess± n±bhito, sudd± j±ºuto, samaº± piµµhip±dato”ti vacanampi “ta½k±likabr±hmaº±na½ laddhiññ³hi por±ºaµµhakath±cariyehi vuttan”ti saddahitv± ±cariyabuddhaghosena ta½ sabba½ por±ºaµµhakath±to bh±s±parivattanamattena visesetv± pak±sita½ bhaveyya. Tasm± t±yapi vedag±th±ya ±cariyassa abr±hmaºabh±vas±dhana½ anupapannamev±ti.
(Kha) punapi tena ±cariyabuddhaghosattherassa abr±hmaºabh±vas±dhanattha½ dutiyampi k±raºa½ evam±haµa½–
“Br±hmaºaganthesu gabbhagh±tav±caka½ bhr³nah±ti pada½ p±¼iya½ bh³nahu (bh³nahano) iti dissati. M±gaº¹iyasutte bhariy±ya methunasa½v±s±bh±vena uppajjan±rahagabbhassa n±sakatta½ sandh±ya m±gaº¹iyo paribb±jako bhagavanta½ ‘bh³nahu (bh³nahano) samaºo gotamo’ti [ma. ni. 2.207 ±dayo] ±ha. Ta½ buddhaghoso na j±n±t²ti p±kaµoyeva tadatthasa½vaººan±ya. Tattha hi tena bh³nahunoti (bh³nahanass±) pada½ ‘hatava¹¹hino mariy±dak±rakass±’ti [ma. ni. aµµha. 2.207] vaººitan”ti.
Tampi ayuttameva. Na hi m±gaº¹iyena phoµµhabb±rammaº±paribhogamattameva sandh±ya bh³nahubh±vo vutto, atha kho channampi lok±mis±rammaº±na½ aparibhoga½ sandh±ya vutto. Tasmiñhi sutte–
“Cakkhu½ kho m±gaº¹iya r³p±r±ma½ r³parata½ r³pasammudita½, ta½ tath±gatassa danta½ gutta½ rakkhita½ sa½vuta½, tassa ca sa½var±ya dhamma½ deseti, ida½ nu te eta½ m±gaº¹iya sandh±ya bh±sita½ ‘bh³nahu samaºo gotamo’ti. Etadeva kho pana me bho gotama sandh±ya bh±sita½ ‘bh³nahu samaºo gotamo’ti. Ta½ kissa hetu, evañhi no sutte ocarat²ti…pe… mano kho m±gaº¹iya dhamm±r±mo dhammarato dhammasammudito, so tath±gatassa danto gutto rakkhito sa½vuto, tassa ca sa½var±ya dhamma½ deseti, ida½ nu te eta½ m±gaº¹iya sandh±ya bh±sita½ ‘bh³nahu samaºo gotamo’ti. Etadeva kho pana me bho gotama sandh±ya bh±sita½ ‘bh³nahu samaºo gotamo’ti. Ta½ kissa hetu, evañhi no sutte ocarat²”ti [ma. ni. 2.207 ±dayo].

Ettha hi methunappaµisevanavasena phoµµhabb±rammaºaparibhogahetu eva gabbhapatiµµh±na½ sambhavat²ti tadaparibhogameva sandh±ya “bh³nah³”ti vattu½ arahati, tadaññesa½ pana pañcanna½ r³p±di-±rammaº±na½, tatth±pi visesato dhamm±rammaºassa suddhamanoviññ±ºena paribhogahetu natthi kiñci gabbhapatiµµh±nanti tesa½ aparibhoga½ sandh±ya bh³nah³ti vattu½ na arahatiyeva, m±gaº¹iyena pana sabb±nipi t±ni sandh±ya vuttabh±vo paµiññ±to, k±raºañcassa dassita½ “evañhi no sutte ocarat²”ti. Tasm± kiñc±pi d±ni br±hmaºaganthesu bh³nahu- (bhr³nah±) saddo gabbhagh±tanatthe dissati, m±gaº¹iyasutte paneso attho na yujjat²ti ±cariyena “hatava¹¹hi mariy±dak±rako”ti ayamevattho por±ºaµµhakath±ya bh±s±parivattanavasena pak±sitoti veditabbo.
(Ga) punapi tena “idampana buddhaghosassa abr±hmaºabh±vas±dhaka½ pacchimak±raºa½, so hi visuddhimagge s²laniddese (1, 31) br±hmaº±na½ parih±sa½ karonto ‘eva½ imin± piº¹ap±tapaµisevanena pur±ºañca jighacch±vedana½ paµihaªkh±mi, navañca vedana½ aparimitabhojanapaccaya½ ±harahatthaka ala½s±µaka tatravaµµaka k±kam±saka bhuttavamitakabr±hmaº±na½ aññataro viya na upp±dess±m²ti paµisevat²’ti ±ha. Ida½ pana ekassa bhinnabr±hmaºaladdhikass±pi vacana½ siy±ti tadeva da¼hak±raºa½ katv± na sakk± ‘buddhaghoso abr±hmaºo’ti vattun”ti tatiya½ k±raºa½ vutta½. Ta½ pana atisa½vejan²yavacanameva. Na heta½ ±cariyena br±hmaº±na½ parih±sa½ k±tuk±mena vutta½, na ca ta½ parih±savacanena sa½yojetabbaµµh±na½, aññadatthu yath±bh³tamattha½ dassetv± sabrahmac±r²na½ ov±d±nus±sanid±navasena vattabbaµµh±na½, tath±yeva ca ±cariyena vutta½. Imasmiñhi loke vassasatasahassehi v± vassakoµ²hi v± aparicchinnaddh±ne ko sakk± vattu½ “nedis± bh³tapubb±”ti. Tasm± t±disehi viya na aparimitabhojanehi bhavitabbanti ov±d±nus±sanid±navaseneva vutta½. Tadeva½ atthasa½hitampi sam±na½ ayonisomanasikaroto anatthameva j±ta½, yath± sabhariyassa m±gaº¹iyabr±hmaºassa an±g±mimaggaphalatth±yapi desit± g±th± [dha. pa. aµµha. 1.s±m±vat²vatthu] tesa½ dh²tuy± anatth±ya sa½vattat²ti sa½vegoyevettha br³hetabboti.
