Athass± jeµµhaputtassa s²sa½ chinditv± majjhimassa chinditu½ ±rabhi½su. S± jeµµhassa s²sa½ chinna½ majjhimassa ca chijjam±na½ disv± kaniµµhamhi ±laya½ vissajji “ayampi etesańńeva sadiso bhavissat²”ti. Tattha tass± itthiy± jeµµhaputtassa chinnas²sadassana½ viya yogino at²tasaŖkh±r±na½ nirodhadassana½, majjhimassa chijjam±nas²sadassana½ viya paccuppann±na½ nirodhadassana½, “ayampi etesańńeva sadiso bhavissat²”ti kaniµµhaputtamhi ±layavissajjana½ viya “an±gatepi nibbattanakasaŖkh±r± bhijjissant²”ti an±gat±na½ nirodhadassana½. Tasseva½ passato etasmi½ µh±ne uppajjati bhayatupaµµh±nań±ŗa½.
Apar±pi upam±– ek± kira p³tipaj± itth² dasa d±rake vij±yi. Tesu nava mat±, eko hatthagato marati, aparo kucchiya½. S± nava d±rake mate dasamańca m²yam±na½ disv± kucchigate ±laya½ vissajji “ayampi etesańńeva sadiso bhavissat²”ti. Tattha tass± itthiy± navanna½ d±rak±na½ maraŗ±nussaraŗa½ viya yogino at²tasaŖkh±r±na½ nirodhadassana½, hatthagatassa m²yam±nabh±vadassana½ viya yogino paccuppann±na½ nirodhadassana½, kucchigate ±layavissajjana½ viya an±gat±na½ nirodhadassana½. Tasseva½ passato etasmi½ khaŗe uppajjati bhayatupaµµh±nań±ŗa½.
751. Bhayatupaµµh±nań±ŗa½ pana bh±yati na bh±yat²ti? Na bh±yati. Tańhi at²t± saŖkh±r± niruddh±, paccuppann± nirujjhanti, an±gat± nirujjhissant²ti t²raŗamattameva hoti. Tasm± yath± n±ma cakkhum± puriso nagaradv±re tisso aŖg±rak±suyo olokayam±no saya½ na bh±yati, kevala½ hissa “ye ye ettha nipatissanti, sabbe anappaka½ dukkhamanubhavissant²”ti t²raŗamattameva hoti. Yath± v± pana cakkhum± puriso khadiras³la½ ayos³la½ suvaŗŗas³lanti paµip±µiy± µhapita½ s³lattaya½ olokayam±no saya½ na bh±yati, kevala½ hissa “ye ye imesu s³lesu nipatissanti, sabbe anappaka½ dukkhamanubhavissant²”ti t²raŗamattameva hoti, evameva bhayatupaµµh±nań±ŗa½ saya½ na bh±yati, kevala½ hissa aŖg±rak±suttayasadisesu, s³lattayasadisesu ca t²su bhavesu “at²t± saŖkh±r± niruddh±, paccuppann± nirujjhanti, an±gat± nirujjhissant²”ti t²raŗamattameva hoti. Yasm± panassa kevala½ sabbabhavayonigatiµhitiniv±sagat± saŖkh±r± byasan±pann± sappaµibhay± hutv± bhayato upaµµhahanti, tasm± bhayatupaµµh±nanti vuccati.
Eva½ bhayato upaµµh±ne panassa aya½ p±¼i–
“Aniccato manasikaroto ki½ bhayato upaµµh±ti? Dukkhato. Anattato manasikaroto ki½ bhayato upaµµh±t²ti? Aniccato manasikaroto nimitta½ bhayato upaµµh±ti. Dukkhato manasikaroto pavatta½ bhayato upaµµh±ti. Anattato manasikaroto nimittańca pavattańca bhayato upaµµh±t²”ti (paµi. ma. 1.227).
Tattha nimittanti saŖkh±ranimitta½. At²t±n±gatapaccuppann±na½ saŖkh±r±nameveta½ adhivacana½. Aniccato manasikaronto hi saŖkh±r±na½ maraŗameva passati, tenassa nimitta½ bhayato upaµµh±ti. Pavattanti r³p±r³pabhavapavatti. Dukkhato manasikaronto hi sukhasammat±yapi pavattiy± abhiŗhapaµip²¼anabh±vameva passati, tenassa pavatta½ bhayato upaµµh±ti. Anattato manasikaronto pana ubhayampeta½ suńńag±ma½ viya mar²cigandhabbanagar±d²ni viya ca ritta½ tuccha½ suńńa½ ass±mika½ apariŗ±yaka½ passati. Tenassa nimittańca pavattańca ubhaya½ bhayato upaµµh±t²ti.
