Tatr±ya½ va¹¹hananayo, tena yogin± ta½ nimitta½ pattava¹¹hanap³vava¹¹hanabhattava¹¹hanalat±va¹¹hanadussava¹¹hanayogena ava¹¹hetv± yath± n±ma kassako kasitabbaµµh±na½ naŖgalena paricchinditv± paricchedabbhantare kasati, yath± v± pana bhikkh³ s²ma½ bandhant± paµhama½ nimitt±ni sallakkhetv± pacch± bandhanti, evameva tassa yath±laddhassa nimittassa anukkamena ekaŖguladvaŖgulativaŖgulacaturaŖgulamatta½ manas± paricchinditv± yath±pariccheda½ va¹¹hetabba½. Aparicchinditv± pana na va¹¹hetabba½. Tato vidatthiratanapamukhapariveŗavih±ras²m±na½ g±manigamajanapadarajjasamuddas²m±nańca paricchedavasena va¹¹hayantena cakkav±¼aparicchedena v± tato v±pi uttari paricchinditv± va¹¹hetabba½.
Yath± hi ha½sapotak± pakkh±na½ uµµhitak±lato paµµh±ya paritta½ paritta½ padesa½ uppatant± paricaya½ katv± anukkamena candimas³riyasantika½ gacchanti, evameva bhikkhu vuttanayena nimitta½ paricchinditv± va¹¹hento y±va cakkav±¼aparicched± tato v± uttari va¹¹heti. Athassa ta½ nimitta½ va¹¹hitava¹¹hitaµµh±ne pathaviy± ukk³lavik³lanad²viduggapabbatavisamesu saŖkusatasamabbh±hata½ usabhacamma½ viya hoti.
Tasmi½ pana nimitte pattapaµhamajjh±nena ±dikammikena sam±pajjanabahulena bhavitabba½, na paccavekkhaŗabahulena. Paccavekkhaŗabahulassa hi jh±naŖg±ni th³l±ni dubbal±ni hutv± upaµµhahanti. Athassa t±ni eva½ upaµµhitatt± upari ussukkan±ya paccayata½ ±pajjanti. So appaguŗe jh±ne ussukkam±no pattapaµhamajjh±n± ca parih±yati, na ca sakkoti dutiya½ p±puŗitu½. Ten±ha bhagav±–
“Seyyath±pi, bhikkhave, g±v² pabbateyy± b±l± abyatt± akhettańń³ akusal± visame pabbate caritu½. Tass± evamassa ‘ya½n³n±ha½ agatapubbańceva disa½ gaccheyya½, akh±ditapubb±ni ca tiŗ±ni kh±deyya½, ap²tapubb±ni ca p±n²y±ni piveyyan’ti. S± purima½ p±da½ na supatiµµhita½ patiµµh±petv± pacchima½ p±da½ uddhareyya, s± na ceva agatapubba½ disa½ gaccheyya, na ca akh±ditapubb±ni tiŗ±ni kh±deyya, na ca ap²tapubb±ni p±n²y±ni piveyya. Yasmińcass± padese µhit±ya evamassa ‘ya½n³n±ha½ agatapubbańceva…pe… piveyyan’ti. Tańca padesa½ na sotthin± pacc±gaccheyya. So ta½ nimitta½ n±sevati, na bh±veti, na bahul²karoti, na sv±dhiµµhita½ adhiµµh±ti, tassa eva½ hoti ‘ya½n³n±ha½ vitakkavic±r±na½ v³pasam±…pe… dutiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja vihareyyan’ti. So na sakkoti vitakkavic±r±na½ v³pasam±…pe… dutiya½ jh±na½ upasampajja viharitu½. Tasseva½ hoti ‘ya½n³n±ha½ vivicceva k±mehi…pe… paµhama½ jh±na½ upasampajja vihareyyan’ti.
