186. Pavattiv±re “chayim±ni, bhikkhave, indriy±ni. Katam±ni cha? Cakkhundriya½…pe… k±yindriya½ manindriyan”ti (sa½. ni. 5.495) sutte vuttanayena idha uddiµµha½ manindriya½ cutipaµisandhipavatt²su pavattam±nehi kammaj±kammajehi sabbehipi yoga½ gacchati, na ca j²vitindriya½ viya aññadhammanissayena gahetabba½, pubbaªgamatt±va padh±na½, tasm± k³µa½ viya gop±nas²na½ sabbindriy±na½ samosaraºaµµh±na½ ante µhapetv± yojita½. J²vitindriy±dim³lakesu pavattiñca gahetv± gatesu “yassa j²vitindriya½ uppajjati, tassa sukhindriya½ uppajjat²ti? Sabbesa½ upapajjant±na½, pavatte sukhindriyavippayuttacittassa upp±dakkhaºe tesa½ j²vitindriya½ uppajjati, no ca tesa½ sukhindriya½ uppajjati, sukhindriyasampayuttacittassa upp±dakkhaºe tesa½ j²vitindriyañca uppajjati sukhindriyañca uppajjat²”ti-±din± sukhadukkhadomanassindriyehi lokuttarindriyehi ca yojan± labbhati, tath± “yassa sukhindriya½ uppajjati, tassa dukkhindriya½ uppajjat²ti? No”ti-±din± ta½m³lak± ca nay±. Tehi pana pavattiya½yeva uppajjam±nehi yojan± ta½m³lak± ca cutipaµisandhipavatt²su pavattam±nehi somanassindriy±d²hi yojan±ya j²vitindriyam³lakehi ca nayehi p±kaµ±yev±ti katv± na vutt±ti daµµhabb±.
“Sacakkhuk±na½ vin± somanassen±ti upekkh±sahagat±na½ catunna½ mah±vip±kapaµisandh²na½ vasena vuttan”ti aµµhakath±ya½ vutta½, ta½ somanassavirahitasacakkhukapaµisandhinidassanavasena vuttanti daµµhabba½. Na hi “catunna½yev±”ti niyamo kato, tena ta½sam±nalakkhaº± parittavip±kar³p±vacarapaµisandhiyopi dassit± honti. Tattha k±m±vacaresu somanassapaµisandhisam±nat±ya mah±vip±kehi cat³hi nidassana½ kata½, tena yath± sasomanassapaµisandhik± acakkhuk± na honti, eva½ itaramah±vip±kapaµisandhik±p²ti ayamattho dassito hoti. Gabbhaseyyak±nañca anuppannesu cakkh±d²su cavant±na½ ahetukapaµisandhikat± sahetukapaµisandhik±na½ k±m±vacar±na½ niyamato sacakkhuk±dibh±vadassanena dassit± hoti. Gabbhaseyyakepi hi sandh±ya “yassa v± pana somanassindriya½ uppajjati, tassa cakkhundriya½ uppajjat²ti? ¾mant±”ti ida½ vacana½ yath± yujjati, tath± ±yatanayamake dassita½. Na hi sanniµµh±nena saªgahit±na½ gabbhaseyyak±na½ vajjane k±raºa½ atthi, “itth²na½ agh±nak±na½ upapajjant²nan”ti-±d²su (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.187) ca te eva vutt±ti.
Upekkh±ya acakkhuk±nanti ahetukapaµisandhivasena vuttanti ettha ca k±m±vacare sopekkha-acakkhukapaµisandhiy± ta½sam±nalakkhaºa½ ar³papaµisandhiñca nidasset²ti daµµhabba½. Kesuci pana potthakesu “ahetuk±r³papaµisandhivasen±”ti p±µho dissati, so eva seyyo.
“Tattha hi ekanteneva saddh±satipaññ±yo natthi, sam±dhiv²riy±ni pana indriyappatt±ni na hont²”ti vutta½, yadi pana sam±dhiv²riy±ni santi, “indriyappatt±ni na hont²”ti na sakk± vattu½ “sam±dhi sam±dhindriyanti? ¾mant±”ti (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.113) “v²riya½ v²riyindriyanti? ¾mant±”ti (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.111) vacanato. Ahetukapaµisandhicitte ca yath± sam±dhileso ekaggat± atthi, na eva½ v²riyaleso atthi, tasm± evamettha vattabba½ siy± “tattha hi ekanteneva saddh±v²riyasatipaññ±yo natthi, ekaggat± pana sam±dhileso eva hot²”ti. Aya½ panettha adhipp±yo siy±– yath± aññesu kesuci ahetukacittesu sam±dhiv²riy±ni honti indriyappatt±ni ca, evamidha sam±dhiv²riy±ni indriyappatt±ni na hont²ti. Sam±dhiv²riyindriy±nameva abh±va½ dassento ahetukantarato viseseti Tattha “sam±dhiv²riy±ni pana na hont²”ti vattabbe “indriyappatt±n²”ti sam±dhilesassa sam±dhindriyabh±va½ appattassa sabbh±vato vutta½, na v²riyalesassa. Visesanañhi visesitabbe pavattati. Yesu pana potthakesu “tattha ekanteneva saddh±v²riyasatipaññ±yo natth²”ti p±µho, so eva sundarataro.
Y±va cakkhundriya½ nuppajjati, t±va gabbhagat±na½ acakkhuk±na½ bh±vo atth²ti imin± adhipp±yen±ha “sahetuk±na½ acakkhuk±nanti gabbhaseyyakavasena ceva ar³p²vasena ca vuttan”ti. Gabbhaseyyak±pi pana avassa½ uppajjanakacakkhuk± na labbhant²ti daµµhabb±. Sacakkhuk±na½ ñ±ºavippayutt±nanti k±madh±tuya½ duhetukapaµisandhik±na½ vasena vuttanti idh±pi ahetukapaµisandhik± ca acakkhuk± labbhanteva. Itthipurisindriyasant±n±nampi upapattivasena upp±do, cutivasena nirodho b±hullavasena dassito. Kad±ci hi tesa½ paµhamakappik±d²na½ viya pavattiyampi upp±danirodh± hont²ti. Ettha purisindriy±vas±nesu indriyam³layamakesu paµhamapucch±su sanniµµh±nehi gahitehi upapatticutivasena gacchantehi cakkhundriy±d²hi niyamitatt± j²vitindriy±d²na½ pavattivasenapi labbham±n±na½ upapatticutivaseneva dutiyapucch±su sanniµµh±nehi gahaºa½ veditabba½.

R³paj²vitindriya½ cakkhundriy±disam±nagatika½ cutipaµisandhivaseneva gacchati sant±nuppattinirodhadassanatoti ±ha “pavatte somanassavippayuttacittassa upp±dakkhaºeti ar³paj²vitindriya½ sandh±ya vuttan”ti. Etesañceva aññesañca pañcindriy±na½ yath±l±bhavasen±ti ettha etesa½ j²vitindriy±d²na½ cutipaµisandhipavattesu, aññesañca cakkhundriy±d²na½ cutipaµisandh²s³ti eva½ yath±l±bho daµµhabbo. Aya½ pana chedeyev±ti ettha tassa tassa paripuººapañhassa tasmi½ tasmi½ sar³padassanena vissajjane vissajjite pacchimakoµµh±sassa chedoti n±ma½ daµµhabba½.
Yassa v± pana somanassindriya½ na uppajjati, tassa j²vitindriya½ na uppajjat²ti? Vin± somanassena upapajjant±na½ pavatte somanassavippayuttacittassa upp±dakkhaºe tesa½ somanassindriya½ na uppajjati, no ca tesa½ j²vitindriya½ na uppajjat²ti ettha “nirodhasam±pann±na½ asaññasatt±nan”ti avacana½ r³paj²vitindriyassa cakkhundriy±disam±nagatikata½ d²peti. Tassa hi upapattiya½yeva upp±do vattabboti. “Vin± somanassena upapajjant±nan”ti ettha asaññasatte saªgahetv± pavattivasena te ca nirodhasam±pann± ca na vutt±, anupp±dopi panetassa cuti-upapatt²sveva vattabbo, na pavatteti. Pacchimakoµµh±sepi “sabbesa½ cavant±na½, pavatte cittassa bhaªgakkhaºe tesa½ somanassindriyañca na uppajjati j²vitindriyañca na uppajjat²”ti eva½ “sabbesa½ cavant±nan”ti ettheva asaññasatte saªgaºhitv± pavattivasena te ca nirodhasam±pann± na ca vutt±. Yassayatthake ca nirodhasam±pann± na dassetabb± na gahetabb±ti attho. Na hi “nirodhasam±pann±nan”ti vacana½ “asaññasatt±nan”ti vacana½ viya ok±sad²paka½, n±pi “upekkh±sampayuttacittassa upp±dakkhaºe, sabbesa½ cittassa bhaªgakkhaºe”ti-±divacana½ viya somanassindriy±d²na½ anupp±dakkhaºad²paka½, atha kho puggalad²pakamev±ti.
At²tak±labhede suddh±v±s±na½ upapatticittassa upp±dakkhaºe tesa½ tattha somanassindriyañca na uppajjittha j²vitindriyañca na uppajjitth±ti ettha “upapatticittassa upp±dakkhaºe”ti kasm± vutta½, nanu “suddh±v±sa½ upapajjant±na½, asaññasatt±na½ tesa½ tattha somanassindriyañca na uppajjittha manindriyañca na uppajjitth±”ti (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.277) ettha viya “upapajjant±nan”ti vattabbanti? Na vattabba½. Yath± hi somanassamanindriy±na½ vasena upapajjant± puggal± upapatticittasamaªgino honti, na eva½ somanassaj²vitindriy±na½ vasena upapattisamaªginoyeva honti. J²vitindriyassa hi vasena y±va paµhamar³paj²vitindriya½ dharati, t±va upapajjant± n±ma honti. Tad± ca dutiyacittato paµµh±ya “j²vitindriyañca na uppajjitth±”ti na sakk± vattu½ ar³paj²vitindriyassa uppajjitv± niruddhatt±, tasm± ubhaya½ upp±dakkhaºena nidassita½. Yath± hi “na nirujjhitth±”ti ida½ lakkhaºa½ upapatticittassa dv²su khaºesu labbham±na½ sabbapaµhamena upapatticittassa bhaªgakkhaºena nidassita½, evamidh±pi daµµhabba½.
An±gatak±labhede uppajjissam±ne sanniµµh±na½ katv± aññassa ca uppajjissam±nat±va pucchit±. Tattha yath± paccuppannak±labhede sanniµµh±nasa½sayabhedehi uppajjam±nasseva gahitatt± “yassa cakkhundriy±d²ni uppajjanti upapajjantassa tassa j²vitindriy±d²ni uppajjant²”ti upapajjantasseva pucchit±na½ upapattiya½yeva tesa½ upp±do sambhavati, na aññattha, na evamidha “yassa cakkhundriy±d²ni uppajjissanti, upapajjantassa tassa j²vitindriy±d²ni uppajjissant²”ti upapajjantasseva pucchit±na½ tesa½ upapattito aññattha upp±do na sambhavati, tasm± “yassa cakkhundriya½ uppajjissati, tassa somanassindriya½ uppajjissat²ti? ¾mant±”ti vutta½. Evañca katv± nirodhav±repi “yassa cakkhundriya½ nirujjhissati, tassa somanassindriya½ nirujjhissat²ti? ¾mant±”ti vutta½. Na hi yassa cakkhundriya½ nirujjhissati, tassa somanassindriya½ na nirujjhissati, api pacchimabhavikassa upekkh±sahagatapaµisandhikassa. Na hi upapajjantassa tassa cutito pubbeva somanassindriyanirodho na sambhavat²ti. Ettha hi paµhamapucch±su sanniµµh±nattho pucchitabbatthanissayo m±disova upapatti-upp±dindriyav± ubhayupp±dindriyav± attho paµinivattitv±pi pucchitabbatthassa nissayoti eva½ viya dutiyapucch±su sanniµµh±natthameva niyameti, na tattheva pucchitabba½ an±gatabh±vamattena sar³pato gahita½ upp±da½ v± nirodha½ v± sa½sayatthanti. Yasm± ceva½ sanniµµh±natthassa niyamo hoti, tasm± “yassa v± pana somanassindriya½ uppajjissati, tassa cakkhundriya½ uppajjissat²ti? ¾mant±”ti (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.281) vutta½. Esa nayo nirodhav±repi.
Paµilome pana yath± anulome “uppajjissati nirujjhissat²”ti upp±danirodh± an±gat± sar³pavasena vutt±, eva½ avuttatt± yath± tattha sa½sayapadena gahitassa indriyassa pavattiyampi upp±danirodh± cakkhundriy±dim³lakesu yojit±, na eva½ yojetabb±. Yath± hi upp±danirodhe atikkamitv± appatv± ca upp±danirodh± sambhavanti yojetu½, na eva½ anupp±d±nirodhe atikkamitv± appatv± ca anupp±d±nirodh± sambhavanti abh³t±bh±vassa abh³t±bh±va½ atikkamitv± appatv± ca sambhav±nuppattito, abh³tupp±danirodh±bh±vo ca paµilome pucchito, tasm±ssa visesarahitassa abh³t±bh±vassa vattam±n±na½ upp±dassa viya k±lantarayog±bh±vato y±dis±na½ cakkh±d²na½ upp±danirodh±bh±vena pucchitabbassa nissayo sanniµµh±nena sannicchito, tannissay± t±dis±na½yeva upapatticuti-upp±danirodh±na½ j²vit±d²nampi anupp±d±nirodh± sa½sayapadena pucchit± hont²ti “yassa cakkhundriya½ nuppajjissati, tassa somanassindriya½ nuppajjissat²ti? ¾mant±”ti (yama. 3.indriyayamaka.308) ca, “yassa cakkhundriya½ na nirujjhissati, tassa somanassindriya½ na nirujjhissat²ti? ¾mant±”ti ca vutta½, na vutta½ “ye ar³pa½ upapajjitv± parinibb±yissant²”ti-±din± j²vitindriya-upekkhindriy±d²su viya vissajjananti.
Ye r³p±vacara½ upapajjitv± parinibb±yissanti, tesa½ gh±nindriya½ na uppajjissati, no ca tesa½ somanassindriya½ na uppajjissat²”ti ettha ye sopekkhapaµisandhik± bhavissanti, te “ye ca ar³pa½ upapajjitv± parinibb±yissant²”ti etena pacchimakoµµh±savacanena ta½sam±nalakkhaºat±ya saªgahit±ti ye somanassapaµisandhik± bhavissanti, te eva vutt±ti daµµhabb±.
Aµµhakath±ya½ yesu ±dimapotthakesu “at²t±n±gatav±re suddh±v±s±na½ upapatticittassa bhaªgakkhaºe manindriyañca nuppajjitth±ti dhammayamake viya upp±dakkhaº±tikkamavasena attha½ aggahetv±”ti likhita½, ta½ pam±dalikhita½. Yesu pana potthakesu “paccuppann±t²tav±re suddh±v±s±na½ upapatticittassa bhaªgakkhaºe manindriyañca nuppajjitth±ti…pe… tasmi½ bhave anuppannapubbavasena attho gahetabbo”ti p±µho dissati, so eva sundarataroti.
